I suppose first low interest rate (and don't get suckered into "low introductory rate that skyrockets after six months). Also, maybe one of those cards that pays you back, like we get free shipping from LL Bean with our our LL Beam CC. Krispy 09-26-2003, 01:51 PM Get a Discover and use it as much as possible when paying w/ CC. Not as many places take it but the 1% cash back adds up $$$. Get other cards as backup. Amex w/ low annual fee, must pay balance monthly and a Visa. I know a few people in big debt on CC's, DONT do it. Pay it off every month. We carry no debt other than our Mortgage and its a free feeling compared to our friends carrying the burden heavy % It can drag you down. 2 have filed bankruptcy at 28 yrs old :smash: Carl 09-26-2003, 02:27 PM All good advice. Like the Dicover Card that pays you back in cash, think about a card that gives you something else that you could use - free airline miles, free gas from either shell or Sunoco, GM card has a good deal 4% on every purchase towards a new GM vehicle if you are looking for somethink like that. Good luck STEVE IN MASS 09-26-2003, 03:27 PM get ONE...I have Chase Visa..don't pay attention to the interest rate, cause you better pay the balance every month.....credit card companies hate me, as they have NEVER collected a cent of interest from me.... The only other thing, if you plan on renting a car, might be good to get one that pays the insurance if you use it to rent the car.... All the rest of the stuff is fluff that they sucker you into....... vineyardblues 09-26-2003, 03:28 PM Tobby, Capital one has the best interest rate for life !!!!!!!!!! F-the rest ,,,get this one at 4.9 for life :) VB Scotch Bonnet 09-26-2003, 05:18 PM Good credit = lower rate. I go for the lowest rate and don't bother with all the other BS. It was always a headache when I tried cashing in my "miles". Don't get out of control and always make your payment on time. This is what the banks will look at when your go for a mortgage further down the road. Mike P 09-26-2003, 07:43 PM Capital One and MBNA are the two cards I carry. Low interest rates, no annual fee. Capital One also doesn't impose any extra fees for an online or other electronic payment. Some companies charge $15 for this service. I also try to use my debit card whenever possible to order online or mail-order. That avoids your running up a big credit card balance and being tempted to only pay the monthly minimum they ask for. You also have to discipline yourself to spend within the limits of your bank account. Watch out for the "transaction fees" for cash advances or balance transfers. Once you establish good credit, you'll be bombarded with offers from other credit card companies to transfer balances from existing cards to their company. They'll tell you that it'll be 0% for a set period, but often the transaction fees will eat up most if not all of the savings in interest, and the APR on the new account might be higher than your old one after the "intriductory period" expires. tlapinski 09-27-2003, 09:58 AM thanks for the advice guys. i will take what you have said into considderation. likwid 09-27-2003, 12:52 PM And be VERY careful Always pay attention to where you are on your limit etc. And make sure to make payments every month otherwise they'll rape you hard. I had cards for a good 7-8 years, and basically ended up cancelling them all, more trouble than what they're worth... Good for building credit if you want that, otherwise they're useless... Just get an atm/visa card if its just for not having to carry cash. Rappin Mikey 09-29-2003, 11:31 AM Credit Cards are bad ideas. Especially when planned obselescence is at it's peak. Always having to upgrade = big bills. HighTide 09-29-2003, 02:57 PM My credit card debt went up after we bought our house, only because we needed this and needed that, Eventually stopped using them. Chased the low interest offers for a couple of years and finally paid it all off. Just carry a debit card and an AMEX. sokinwet 10-03-2003, 11:19 AM Check out the Cabelas card.
