View Full Version : Dear Pure Fishing...You Suck
fishweewee 09-30-2003, 08:57 PM What in tarnation are you guys doing to all those fine brands that you bought???!!!
Did you guys overpay for all your acquisitions and now are faced consolidating/rationalizing your product line?
Whatever happened to "if it ain't broke, DON'T FARGIN FIX IT?!!!"
-You insult us with the unreliable Mitchell Nautil disposable reel series. :yak:
-Then you discontinue the fine non-level wind Abu 7500's. So no more 7500 C3CT or 7500 Big Game conventional reels which have served as reliable workhorses around the world.
-Then I was forced to hoard some Abu 7500 and 6500 CL's because you are discontinuing these items.
-Whatever reels are assuming the aforementioned product lineup are going to be made of CHEAPER materials.
-Now you're discontinuing a proven Fireline product and replacing it with something with a line diameter size that is larger?
I'm sorry, I don't see this as progress. It's called brand dilution and regression to suck-arse.
Either us East Coast saltwater anglers don't mean diddly to you because we are an insignificant market segment...or your marketing folks don't know fakk-all.
YOU GUYS SUCK!
Sincerely,
Wee Wee
Mike P 09-30-2003, 09:03 PM Don't forget to add that more and more Abu reels are no longer "Made in Sweden" but "Assembled in Sweden from parts precision machined in Taiwan". But still command "Made in Sweden" prices
fishweewee 09-30-2003, 09:07 PM :af:
Sure, try to increase your margins by lowering your product costs.
But watch as your inventory turns slow to molasses as anglers realize the new "rip-#^&#^&#^&#^& strategy.
This is freakin' bovine feces!!!
Say what you will, but thank God for Daiwa SloSH.
I guess there will be more hoarding of old-flavor Fireline.
:af:
Mike P 09-30-2003, 09:11 PM And next I guess you're gonna tell me that Zebco will spare no expense to maintain the fine quality of the Van Staal product line :D
"Assembled in the USA with parts precision machined in Singapore"
fishweewee 09-30-2003, 09:15 PM Mike,
I honestly don't have a problem with parts made overseas as long as they are similar quality as ones made in their original locations. Any rational company would try to find lower labor costs for the same work.
But it appears that they are putting cheaper materials in the reels.
Like we wouldn't notice.
:af:
mikecc 09-30-2003, 09:19 PM Mike from what I here . the zebco thing is not going to happen.
Thats all I can say for now I don't want to get anybody fired:D
fishweewee 09-30-2003, 09:22 PM That's it, I'm gonna just fly fish for the rest of my life.
:wall:
Mike P 09-30-2003, 09:22 PM Talk to my wife about that---before she decided to go into teaching, she was an engineer for Rockwell, IBM and a smaller company in Danbury. She's as liberal as they come politically, but she said there was a HUGE difference in the quality of components made in the US and those that were imported from the Pacific Rim.

I can see the day when all I have on my rods again are Squidders and Z's :wall:
Not that it would be a bad thing, necessarily.

Big Vern 10-01-2003, 07:15 AM  Did you really say that they're going to discontinue Fireline?
fishweewee 10-01-2003, 08:09 AM Yes, according to MikeCC :af:
JohnR 10-01-2003, 08:40 AM Anyone interested in having a website "Open Letter to Pure Fishing"? Expecially after that 2 page advertisement, err, I mean article, in The Fisherman last week, I think Berkely Pure Fishing needs a kick in the posterior.
Get a lot of people to contribute and say where we think they went wrong followed by what we would like to see...
Saltheart 10-01-2003, 10:14 AM Got to agree. Discontinuing the Big Game 7000CL and 6500CL is a total barf on their part. Best reels they make and they stop making them.
Too bad cause I prefer the current Abu Big Games , even over my Calcuttas despite the drag issues. Oh well , that's progress. :(

bassmaster 10-01-2003, 11:30 AM well if u start hoarding let me know I will get a couple bulk #14
why the not going to make the stuff.
cause it works????
why the not going to make the stuff.
Interesting theory though......think about all the crap youve bought and founds out it sucked...so what did you do?? you went and bought something else....and again...until you found something you liked! that four sales instead of one!
fishweewee 10-01-2003, 11:36 AM Yeah, cuz it works just fine, so the marketers feel they have to mess with it.
Remember what happened to New Coke? :yak:
bassmaster 10-01-2003, 11:36 AM Ben U gonna order some??
fishweewee 10-01-2003, 11:38 AM Well, it looks like I HAVE to now, don't I?
Pisses me off, there goes the food budget. :af:

Stroth 10-01-2003, 05:36 PM I also heard that the Nautils were going too!!!!
How much would it cost for them to upgrade to smoothies on all the abus?
How long has everyone known that the stock drag on the abus is horrible?
When another company sets up shop upgrading your product that ain't science!!!!
Good thing I got my big game when I did. Now I want another.
Oh---I got a nautil 7500 too.
Are there any other waterproof spinners out there?
Try PowerPro----I've had great luck with it.

Yeah, have used that stuff since it came out.
I HATE it on spinners. Wind knots.
I HATE it on casting conventionals. To soft, digs into itself, sticky coming off the spool.
It's OKAY on conventional bottom fishing rigs.

mikecc 10-01-2003, 07:03 PM Got word from Mike Batta pure fishing rep for the north east .That Pure fishing is still going to keep the Fire Line IN addition to the New Fire Line XDS. again they are not droping Fire Line Regular Just adding another version called Fire Line XDS.
My Goof:smash:
Mike P 10-01-2003, 07:04 PM It's gotten better, Ben. I used to call it Power Blows but the new spools seem to have better QC.
On spinners you need a reel that winds it level, with an oversized roller.
Don't use anything less than 65# test on conventionals.
fishweewee 10-01-2003, 07:04 PM Phew. So they suck just a little bit less. They still suck though.
:laughs:

I know Mike. I use it reluctantly, still.
I remember when the first bulk spools came out - I bought them at bigfishtackle.com and every single one was defective. They had "mashdown" nubs where the line was flattened out during the extrusion process every few hundred yards.
I use the 30 lb. for light tackle and 65 for bottom fishing.

Stroth 10-02-2003, 06:52 AM I've used 65, 30, and 20 for years without many problems at all. I switched to 30 stealth for awhile and was not impressed.
I have noticed that the PowerPro seems to handle much better when i get it spooled on at a shop (thanks mike!) the stuff has to be even and has to have even tension.
I'll try FireLine soon though...people seem to love it.
fishweewee 10-02-2003, 08:40 AM With Power Pro, one of the things I do is dunk the spool in a bucket of water. Then wind it on REAL TIGHT, ideally with a friend putting tension on the spool (using a pencil in the spool hole) in the bucket of water.
Wet packing assists in getting it on tight.
You don't have to deal with this process if you're using Fireline.

beachwalker 10-02-2003, 08:51 AM Good advice WW. I have been HATING the PP and went back to Stren.
Am going to give the Fireline a go (IF it is available in the type you guys think is best). Any tips on spooling the Fire ?
I run a Penn Slammer 360,460 & 560.
Any help is appreciated.
Krispy 10-02-2003, 09:01 AM Big Power Pro fan here. Ive never had the problems I hear about so often and have been using it on everything for a couple years now.
I like fireline too.
I hated whiplash, its suppleness caused me alot of problems
beachwalker 10-02-2003, 09:10 AM Krispy,
Hello. How are you this AM ?
What kind of reels are you running the PP on ? Could it be my problems come from casting into breeze to firmly ? Those was the times I had wind knot problems. Also, I can see what WW was saying about spool tension and properly spooling it. It seemed to loose when I had it.
I need to get a grip on these lines..... ;)
Krispy 10-02-2003, 09:19 AM BW, I have 50lb PP on a Nautil 7500, Tica Tauraus  and VS 200. I only do a quick pull, no drag, after each cast to make sure there isnt a loop around the knob. Its second nature now. I also manually close my bails. I am often in situations casting into a stiff wind and havent had significant problems.
I had heard of the beakoff problems but not experienced it
beachwalker 10-02-2003, 09:24 AM Excellent Krisp,
Thanks. That good definetly have been my problem. I would just cast away and not even pay attention. First time I used it was at night (duh) and by third cast I was hosed.
Cheers mate
Stroth 10-02-2003, 07:15 PM the wind knots are horrible, but i'm not ready to blame those on power pro...i only experienced it once in a HEAVY breeze in my face..and i haven't had it happen again..
others I know love and swear by whiplash 65#----they laugh at my powerpro and apparently the whiplash cannot be broken
Mike P 10-02-2003, 07:31 PM 65# Whiplash is the best braid I've ever used.
