View Full Version : Fishing Report - It just keeps getting better
beachwalker 10-02-2003, 08:29 AM Well things have taken a change for the best out here. Instead of trudging the coast for one or two fishees a night it is now solidly a "How many did you get- What was the biggest ?) scene.
Nothing huge but 41" was the big'un last night. So many 30-32's that you could almost count the seconds on one hand from the time the plug hit the water 'til the fish was on.
I guess this is the beginning. The Boat guys had been slammin' em' for a week or so. I thought Boat fishing wasn't as good ;)
What is going on over on the Cape or MV ? How about Cape Ann and Maine ?
I head up to that area Saturday - Tuesday.
beachwalker 10-02-2003, 01:20 PM Does anyone have any reports from their neck of the suds ?
JohnR 10-02-2003, 01:29 PM There were roughly 47,000 small bass and blues where I was last night (between Pt Jude & Fishers Island) with some teen sized keepers mixed in plus some 8-9# &*%^$# :af: fish
RIROCKHOUND 10-02-2003, 01:32 PM Jeez john, get it right, there was 47,469 small bass...

B Mary... Alice... whatever, it's all the same thing :D
RIROCKHOUND 10-02-2003, 01:58 PM If I dont make plans to chase albies pre dawn off Npt with my old man, I may be back in the same spot (one hour later of course)... Bryan aka
Mary
(I cant be Mary, look how strong I am.. I break rods :D :musc:
macojoe 10-02-2003, 02:20 PM I am going out to the back side tonight. We will see what is out in the wind tonight?? Going to be a cold one! :err:
Mr. Sandman 10-02-2003, 02:46 PM The surf scene here (MV) is slow but picking up. (I am VERY encouraged by your report!) I have been going 3 nights a week for a few hours to keep my pulse on the situation. Chappy has been dead and most of the fish have been comming out of squibby and I think these are still the resident summer fish)
I moved my boat to Menemsha and I have been fishing the elizabeths...casting eels into rocks with good success. (God! those islands are beautiful!) Broke off a bunch of big-ones and landed a few in the high 20's along with some nice blues on nearly every trip. Got fish at every spot I tried.
I have witnessed some amazing surface takes within a few feet of the boat...really amazing.
beachwalker 10-02-2003, 07:02 PM Sandman,
Good success on all south facing beaches using swimmers.
Great Point is showing some big surface action with a buddy taking a 43LB two nights ago. Lots of Albies, Boni's and Spaniards there as well but I have feeling the NW'ster will steer them out of town.
Just getting in from Thirsday night Men's leagie golf at Miacomet Golf Club. I had a HOLE IN ONE on the 165 yd. par 3, 5th Hole. 9 iron. One bounce, nice check and in the cup !
So pyched that I might air down and go fish for a couple of hours.
Life can be so unpredictable sometimes.
But man I love being here.
Thanks for all the reports folks. How tired are you guys after landing 46,000plus shorts. Is that the high rep, stamina work out routine ?
Endurance over raw power ?
:p
Jonny Bolt 10-02-2003, 08:09 PM Cant buy a bite here in Hampton NH.
But I'm going out armed with a new needlefish lure tomorrow. Mmmwwwuuuhahahahahaa. J/K. I hope it nets some results.
likwid 10-02-2003, 08:12 PM Cuttyhunk is hot...
duh :D
beachwalker 10-03-2003, 10:50 AM It is great here now. Has been good but last couple of nights were ridiculous. Man am I tired.
Gotta get on the boat and zip up to Maine tommorrow. i am bringing one rod, etc. and will be in Marblehead on Monday night.
Anyone fishing off the rocks around there Monday evening and cares to let me tag along ?
I WILL return the favor ! :D
Sounds like things are hot almost everywhere.
Anyone check out what Sandman & Co. picked up yesterday ?
What a  looking fish..........
Jonny Bolt 10-03-2003, 12:19 PM Almost off to fish an awesome rocky "tea cup" I scoped out in North Hampton NH. Along with the new Needlefish lure, I am probably gonna try a new jerk bait too.
what are you all using?
Mr. Sandman 10-03-2003, 02:47 PM Beachwalker,
THANK YOU FOR YOUR REPORT...
will PM with details.
Scotch Bonnet 10-03-2003, 08:24 PM 9 iron 165 yrds and in the cup??? Nice shot! I woulda hit the 7 and sliced way right:)
beachwalker 10-03-2003, 08:34 PM Thanks Scotch.
It was blowing 15-20 and dead down wind. I had an 8 in my hand and switched to the 9.
I guess I made the right choice :D
How much that cost ya back at the clubhouse ? :btu:
beachwalker 10-04-2003, 04:48 AM $ 190 USD. :(
It could have been way worse. It could have been summer with a billion Skippy tourists around all wanting faggified toddies.
That included the tip. :p
Chunker of Death 10-04-2003, 10:20 AM Pounding the heck out um, up here in Maine. Still seeing a huge amount of peanut bunker. Also seeing smaller amounts of herring. Bass are slow to migrate out. Have been stuffing themselves on peanuts and macs. Best fun is when you find a spot where macs are also feeding with stripers. Two words: live lining ! There is still a huge number of bass up here. :D
Jonny Bolt 10-04-2003, 11:09 AM I cannot find a Striper, from Hampton to Portsmouth and all inbetween, including North Hampton, Rye, and New Castle. I am using 9" Slug-Go's, 7" Needlefish, 6" Storm wild-eye bunkers, several plugs and I even have some Herring I can chunk. Absolutely nothing. Anyone know where I might be able to snag a keeper? I havent gotten one this year :( I drove up and down 1A yesterday fishing at various spots, and couldnt get anything.
Chunker of Death 10-04-2003, 12:34 PM Hang in there, John. Fish are headed yer way. One should have a black Mambo Minnow hanging from its mouth. But that's another sad story:mad: Have you tried the Southern York County area of Maine? Give Eldridge Brothers or Kittery Trading Post a call. There has to be fish in that area. Striper53 usually fishes your area of New Hamshire. Give him a PM.
Jonny Bolt 10-05-2003, 12:11 AM I take it you lost a plug? lol. I lost a few too, both at the RR trestle on the Hampton Marsh. I lost a windcheater in the outgoing tide, the day I got it lol. Then I lost a smaller minnow, which had gotten me the most action this year, when I wiped out down the side of the trestle. I was walkin down the big stones, and out went me feets lol I though it was all over as I went up in the air and came down on my back. Close call. But I lost that damn good luck minnow cuz it flew out my hand.
Thanks fer helpin me out. I will call those places, and also pm Striper53. I still see people out fishin', so I know they have to still be out there. I did see some surface action when I was fishing off the Hampton Beach Jetty a few, but I believe they were Bluefish, and they went right along. I wasnt catchin nuthin with the chunk Herring, and I didnt have any needlefish, slug-go's, or wild-eyes with me.
I stopped by Goat Island over in Portsmouth Friday, and there was someone fishing near the bridge, so I threw out the needlefish, and nothing. There was just nothing coming in there. I wish those fishies were still in the Hampton Marshes, cuz thats my fave spot, but I still keep tryin' down at the jetty.
There's gotta be a Stripy somewhere for me lol
Jonny Bolt 10-05-2003, 12:39 AM I tried to PM "Striper53", but it said invalid username :(
Chunker of Death 10-05-2003, 07:16 AM Hmmmm, I don't recall seeing Paul post on this site. You can zip over to (dare I say it?.....)SOL on the Maine/New Hamshire forum and try giving hime a buzz. Yeah, I lost one of my Blurple Mambos. RATS, I hate losing that color. Keep driving 1A and your bound to locate the fish.
Jonny Bolt 10-05-2003, 10:25 AM I am going down to throw a needlefish and a few other surprises off the Jetty right now.
Jonny Bolt 10-05-2003, 11:52 AM nothing there. fished for about 20 minutes and realized there was no birds around. No birds and no fish. Total waste of time. Nothing but wind and aggravation. This town sucks.
btw, whats SOL?
S*** outa luck!
just kidding, stripers online site...
Jonny Bolt 10-05-2003, 07:16 PM LOL. I knew that :)
I fished at Goats Island in Portsmouth (you can see the Shipyard from there) again today, boatloads of bait fish, but no Stripy's. Not even a bite. It's perfect structure for Bass, but they just arent in anymore. If I can catch the tide in the morning, I may go down to the Hampton Jetty again, and throw some out.
Someone take me to a spot near Hampton NH where I could catch a keeper, and I'll give you $$$ lol
Scotch Bonnet 10-05-2003, 07:31 PM JB, try dawn or dusk to increase your odds. 20 minutes at noontime isn't the most productive time to fish for Stripers.
Jonny Bolt 10-05-2003, 10:20 PM Thanks for the advice. I am going to go out to the Jetty early in the AM. Hopefully the gate is open that early so I can park in the State Park. If not, I'll have to hike a bit.
I heard the needlefish and the wildeye bunkers are working really well. I picked up a nice needle, and I really want to see some action with it. And the 6" wildeye bunkers I got are great for the heavy surf. Hopefully I'll connect in the AM. Havent fished at dawn for sometime now.
