don't shoot me.[owner of the pink one]..I started these last winter an never finished them,,yet, this winter maybe.....no copying here, made a bunch of different sizes...just looks to be the same as your pink one does..was told they catch reel well.
Gloucester2 10-06-2003, 02:39 PM Is it just me or is the grain of that wood BEAUTIFUL !
Christian 10-06-2003, 02:46 PM its just you. :D
i made sumthing like that with cat eyes and they liked it when people around ya were catching with eels.
Jigman 10-06-2003, 03:08 PM Nice turnings!! So how big are they?
Jigman
capesams 10-06-2003, 03:48 PM upwards of 8"......word of warning to those who use ayc an u don't seal it,,,the heart wood /sap wood/ pitch will bleed through the primer an paint an bubble the clear coat. that's if u own the plug long enough..
Krispy 10-06-2003, 03:49 PM CS, thats the shape I like to make too. I find I like large needles and heavy because I cant always feel them when working it in the water. Those are real nice
The sanded eye thing is cool too
capesams 10-06-2003, 03:57 PM feel free to use it, if ya like it. I got lazy an didn't feel like drillen the eye out.
Tagger 10-06-2003, 04:16 PM Capesams...those are nice ..I want some like that ..I gotta copy... who's the original designer of that style needle ....seen it before somewhere..
capesams 10-06-2003, 04:22 PM super strike needle,,,,I beleive at one time they strated out as a wood plug then went to plastic.
NEXT2NUN 10-06-2003, 07:18 PM Cape are the bottom three ayc, looks just like pine? Are you still using Kilz for sealer? water base or oil? Been using oil base and it takes a long time to dry.
capesams 10-06-2003, 07:32 PM top one is birch,,bottom r ayc.....I've changed over to oil, I'm finding laytex anything just lifts off in no time,,,oil is slow drying , but I think it'll last a bit longer......anything that drys fast doesn't get a chance to soak in an grab. think way back when ,,when they had nothing around but oil,,an how the old plugs got beet an the paint for the most part is still stuck on,,they also had lead in the paint that made it last an last....that's my thought's anyway .
JHABS 10-06-2003, 08:25 PM capesams , IS that top one THE HAB'S o,boy wrong THREAD.......;)
l.i.fish.in.vt 10-06-2003, 08:27 PM Cape i agree with you on the oil based paints, thats all i use it holds up well. an old timer up on the cape makes a similar shaped needle, it casts amile and catchs. i think his name is George Calizone. from what i hear he is in his late 80's. also makes a nice small pencil.
capesams 10-06-2003, 08:48 PM free advertiseing:D
JHABS 10-06-2003, 08:56 PM Don't WORRY I won't WINE.......
capesams 10-06-2003, 09:14 PM I'll bake ya some nutty brownies, txs fa not shootin.
JHABS 10-06-2003, 09:22 PM A big PAN , and not water BASE.
capesams 10-06-2003, 09:28 PM fresh chicky eggs only go in my pot,,8x8 or 8x12 pan, gooie or stiff mix:confused:
l.i.fish.in.vt 10-07-2003, 07:23 AM if any of us are still turning plugs in our late 80's, i think a little free advisetizing would be gladly accepted. i don't know who he is, was given a few of his plugs . and they worked quite well.would surely like to meet him though
bassmaster 10-07-2003, 08:30 AM I have a can of oil based paint in Yellow and dunked a few plugs in it.
the stuff holds up real well.
and the color works if any one wants to come dunk a few let me know:)
l.i.fish.in.vt 10-07-2003, 09:21 AM if i get back to the cape this season,i'll dunk a few what flavored donuts go with yellow plugs?

NEXT2NUN 10-07-2003, 04:39 PM Fresh dunked plugs and brownies, sounds like a plan to me!!
Cape gotta get some ayc looks sweet, been using western red (free) but it bleeds black after one nick.
capesams 10-07-2003, 05:33 PM acid in red cedar,,gotta seal it good.
fishing bum wannabe 10-08-2003, 07:25 AM Where are you weighting these? I have been drilling, gluing in slugs and filling with wood filler to keep the weight balanced front to back, and to keep a lower center of gravity to keep the plug hook down when I retreive. I prefer to drill from the butt but find that doesn't work for me for needles the way it does for pencil poppers. Nice shape! I always liked the Super Strike needles.
capesams 10-08-2003, 11:06 AM I,ve been drillin the butt end useing the egg sinkers ..first put a peice of wire through the plug, then slide the sinker on, 2 drops of glue, let harden,,,then when your ready to finish the plug all the holes r lined up, even the tail grommet slide in with no trouble................don't know how hab's does it....haven't got the chance to cut up the plug yet:devil: :hihi:
JHABS 10-08-2003, 11:10 AM Do you make FLOATER'S ,I made some FLOATER'S before.....:bshake:
capesams 10-08-2003, 11:51 AM madder o fact,,,just had the floater tank cleaned out yesterday it was so full:

Tin Can Charlie 10-11-2003, 06:27 AM Move the front hook farther up....Afterall, stripers hit their prey from the head...Unless of course your intention was another bluefish popper......Put 4/0 Treble in place of 3/0...Plug actually swims better but is still butt heavy......Take comments as you wish.....I put them in 3 different hands and we pretty much all agree.....Fit and finish is exceptional. You need to come out and fish the suds bud and fine tune those.....:fishslap:
As for pics.....It's kinda like bananas.....Just do not take them or camera along.....Bad mojo....Plus don't want to light up the beach at nite and scare away what I have been waiting several hours for.....That's for internet heros....:bsod:
UserRemoved1 10-11-2003, 06:43 AM Jeff I made them to keep the arse down on purpose, that's a 2/0 hook too. Steve said he changed his to a 4/0 maybe you got sumthin there.
