What kind of drill bit would I use to countersink an eye? I have tried to use a regular bit but it seems to "fracture" to wood around the hole.

I think the IRWIN is the best out there....at about 3800 rpm it makes a SUPER CLEAN hole! bspice13 10-09-2003, 05:07 PM Any recommendations as to were to find this bit? Also will it leave a clean hole in any wood(maple, birch, ayc)? Christian 10-09-2003, 05:09 PM forstener definitly. yes, very clean. UserRemoved1 10-09-2003, 05:10 PM Any good hardware store should have them. Stay AWAY from the Woodworker warehouse junk. bspice13 10-09-2003, 05:14 PM Thanks:cheers: Christian 10-09-2003, 05:16 PM i got the woodworkers warehouse junk cuz they dont cost much.-----------------on sale. UserRemoved1 10-09-2003, 06:12 PM yea but two things Christian....they made of cheap metal and they not very sharp. Be careful..... I can show you my stomach.....got PERMANENT scars as a testament to how bad they are. Speakin of which BM........ GIMME MY DRILLBIT BACK YOU SLOUCH :smash: :smash: :smash: Slipknot 10-09-2003, 07:48 PM Forstner bits from Woodworkers Warehouse are fine for drilling eye holes in a homemade plugs, but if you do it professionally you may want to spend the extra dough on some quality bits elsewhere. Grizzly bits are crap bugger, not WW. There are alot better brad points out there then Irwin, they would be way down on my list. Too bad that Fuller co. burned down, they had excellan bits. UserRemoved1 10-09-2003, 07:50 PM yea Slip that's why I like the IRWIN bits, they are super sharp and got nice teeth on them. When you spin them up on the press they do nice job! The WW bits are ok for occasional use....but lemme tell ya I got the scars to show how CHEAP those bits are....be careful! It's worth spending the extra few bucks for the better bits. Slipknot 10-09-2003, 07:51 PM maybe we're talking of two different things bugger UserRemoved1 10-09-2003, 09:01 PM forstner bits and regular bits same problems. Fishpart 10-10-2003, 07:02 AM http://www.wlfuller.com/ Slip, They are back in production, I drive by twice a day if you need something........... RI Popper 10-17-2003, 07:40 PM It's great to see Fuller back up and running, A great company to do business with. Also I have custom hone some bits to countersink my eye holes. I take a high speek metal bit and grind it completely flat and sharpen both sides of the flat edge on a wet stone and it does very well. I have drilled literally thousands of eye holes this way. If you like I can take a pic of the drill bit and post it for you. let me know capesams 10-17-2003, 07:55 PM :humpty: vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2025, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
