anything not in shops that you would like to see?
View Full Version : Things you wish were in tackle shops, but arn't Washrat 10-14-2003, 11:49 AM anything not in shops that you would like to see? NJTackle 10-14-2003, 12:10 PM A great selection of Tin Jigs! :p Notaro 10-14-2003, 12:10 PM I would like to see stores that actually sell cheap waders and siwash hooks and those with feathers and bucktails. And the stores that have cheap waders like hodges. Rappin Mikey 10-14-2003, 12:24 PM A 75 # fish that I mounted and gave to the shop cause it was my 3rd that year. Big Vern 10-14-2003, 12:30 PM Free lures. STEVE IN MASS 10-14-2003, 12:32 PM Counter clerks that look like the girls from 179's avatar.....;) :D 179 10-14-2003, 12:46 PM I second Steve's suggestion....:) How about live Herring, Bunker, and Shad....:) fishsmith 10-14-2003, 01:23 PM A brothel in the back :D hooked 10-14-2003, 01:27 PM A 24/7 eel vending machine outside the front door. STEVE IN MASS 10-14-2003, 01:33 PM Okay, a bit more seriously...... Better hours.....I know a lot of you fish at midnight, but I've always been an early morning (3-4 AM) guy thru sun-up..... And I always try to plan ahead, cause up here in NE at least, most shops don't open till after I'm DONE....which is okay, if I'm jigging the canal or throwing plugs elsewhere.....I can easily plan ahead for that. But since I STILL have that little bit of chunking in my heart and soul, and I live in Foxboro, which is at least a good half hour from a decent bait shop (though now I hear of one in Norton), it's not easy to plan to get fresh chunk bait ahead of time. When I go to Jersey, (granted, where I go is a shore town), most of the B&T's open at about 4 AM.....always been that way....I remember stopping with Charlie (Pop) at a B&T at 4:30 in the morning back in the 60's.....and where I go down there now, it's the same still today.....in fact, at times, they are open 24 hours...... Oh, the other thing about Jersey shore tackle shops....they all have grills for that breakfast sandwich/and or coffee you might want.......pork roll, egg and cheese to go, please.....:)..okay, okay, you New England guys have no clue about pork roll......:p, um, your loss......;) TheRattBoy 10-14-2003, 02:00 PM better hours (for fishermen) eel machine outside Bassmaster needles Aquaskins resident only stickers for parking;) johnny "the Ratt Boy" Jimbo 10-14-2003, 02:04 PM That's what I'm talkin' about Steve! Had exactly that a week ago in Seaside....."Hey buddy, can I get a dozen clams and a pork roll, egg and cheese on a bun? Thanks." I bet ya miss the smell and taste of that Case or Taylor hickory smoked pork way up there in Mass, huh? Mmmmmmmm succulent stuff. Couldn't ya just go for a 3 lb roll of it right now? Is your mouth watering for it, Steve? (This is mean , huh? OK, I'll stop.) What could I go for in a tackle shop? A road map. At a good one usually there's so much there I get overwhelmed, forget what I came in for and leave with what I don't need. Oh yes, and I like the suggestion about chicks clad only in waders cheerfully waiting for me to come in at 5:00AM for bait. JohnR 10-14-2003, 02:05 PM I think Washrat is talking about "product" . How about the stuff that the meatheads over at Berkely are pulling from the shelves: 6500CL / CS Mag / Nautil (unless there is a redesign coming). Good line choice seems tough for conventionals unless you go to a higher end shop. How about rules & regs in many languages and notices for people to pitch their trash in a receptackle, and bags with the shop's name on it so we can see where the knuckleheads are buying their stuff - Oh Yeh, product... I'm actually fairly well stocked on what I need and I'm able to find it (usually) in the shops I frequent. Maybe some of the popular surf stuff that no longer hets bought, like those Blurple Bombers that the Saltwater Edge had to order... STEVE IN MASS 10-14-2003, 02:27 PM Originally posted by JohnR How about rules & regs in many languages and notices for people to pitch their trash in a receptackle, John, that was my next post....in BIG LETTERS, on the door facing you on the way out....... Jimbo.....no sweat, 22 days and counting, and I'll be eating them most every morning for a week or so....:)....and you can bet a nice big roll of taylor ham is coming back with me....:) rwilhelm 10-14-2003, 02:38 PM Steve my parents are both from Jersey, taylor ham is the best. I wish you could find it up this way. STEVE IN MASS 10-14-2003, 02:45 PM Taylor ham is good!!!.....:)... But back on track.... I saw two posts about an eel machine....just wondering.....just how do you propose that to work? I mean, I've seen places with bait machines......sand worms, night crawlers, etc. work okay....Chunks, well, from what I hear (never bought chunks from them myself), you get a few measly, sorry looking chunks of pogey or mack, for a whole lot of money.... Eels......since they need to be kept alive in eel tanks......... Okay, unless it's just a dream............ STEVE IN MASS 10-14-2003, 02:52 PM Damn.....the engineer in me is coming out......what if?.....;).......you got some sort of vacuum system that went inside the shop into the eel tank.....outside, you put your money in the slot, and this vacuum hose searched around the tank, sucked up a live eel, and delivered it out a chute.....of course, ya would also probably get a good soaking from the water it sucked up and delivered to you as well.... Hey, I'm an umemployed engineer......but somehow, I think if I designed it and came up with a patent, I'd still be poor.....:(....;) UserRemoved1 10-14-2003, 02:52 PM         Originally posted by Don Corleone Free lures. capesams 10-14-2003, 04:08 PM products,,,,hmmm! my tackle bag is 3"x3" zip lock with a hook, leader. swivel...eel fishin dosen't take much...the shops would starve if there were more of me around...u can add cheap to grumpy an old.....seem,s this new generation is more into showin off how much gear they have to carry and what their carrying then finding their own honey holes an just enjoying the time spent outside.....o sorry this was about products.....how about just improveing the stuff thats already out there...like hooks that don't rust the first time out,,,reels that work well...etc..etc...:smash: Christian 10-14-2003, 04:13 PM wendys. hooked 10-14-2003, 04:15 PM Eels would be nice, but I'd settle for some fat sandworms at 4am to support my tube-n-worm addiction. http://web.idirect.com/~vendnet/kanes6.html BigFish 10-14-2003, 04:22 PM How about a brothel in the FRONT and me weighing in a fifty+?:bounce: :uhuh: On the serious side, how about some Habs needlefish? Can't find any around here!:bc: :bc: :bc: fishweewee 10-14-2003, 05:23 PM Well, during the Fall Run, it would be nice to have all-nite tackle shops. I remember the Red Drum B&T down in Buxton, NC being open 24/7 starting in April. Busy, too, by most accounts! I bought my first Abu 7500C3CT at 3 in the morning or something like that. :btu: Slipknot 10-14-2003, 05:35 PM A massage therapist. likwid 10-14-2003, 06:01 PM If any of the shop guys want a graveyard person next year... :D 24 hour baitshops would be a nice thing.... beachwalker 10-14-2003, 06:15 PM Spam Eel skins and rigs Drive Thru (so there is no way any stories start) Rods with an easily visible 28" ruler written in Cambodian (sorry). A Bassmaster/FWW Cape & Islands/English dictionary A copy of the new book "Cowboy Down". A self help guide for suffering Red Sox fans (and players) "Charlie Moore is a wanker"t-shirts Etc. :) BigFish 10-14-2003, 06:18 PM I want one of those "Charlie Moore Is A Wanker" t-shirts.:laugha: :hihi: :laugha: pops02 10-14-2003, 06:37 PM hey slipknot, a message therapist huh ? :D :D :D a real good one:laughs: JohnR 10-14-2003, 07:15 PM Ahemmm. Family Friendly site please.. we have youngsters here... Steve, if an eel wants to get out, chances are.... Actually, Weekapaug had a good idea, outdoor lockers, if you are a regular, reserve a locker and if you need eels, call 'em. If you need a SuperStrike, call 'em. Shop might be closed but your stuff will be waiting.. Jenn 10-14-2003, 07:21 PM Hmmm..yes longer hours would be nice BUT realistically ...I am sure its a tough thing to do.... More shops with coffee, coffee , coffee.....and yes we would pay good money for it! I always thought it would be cool to have a "fishermans hotel" out back......you know rent a bunk to crash in for a few in between fishing! (I know its stupid but how many times have you wished you had a warm bed instead of the back of your sand sled???) Goose 10-14-2003, 08:24 PM KMX , subs, cold drinks, sunflower seeds! striperjerk1 10-14-2003, 11:38 PM hey steve on the eel vending. how about an old soda machine that you put money in and slide 1 bottle out at a time. remember them. the eels would have nice cold water and airation. no muss no fuss. the eels could be put in airated cylinders. 24 hr bait shop would be great. Striperhound 10-15-2003, 06:03 AM Being from Long Island there is a tackle store in Mastic Long island. If I remember the name right it is Mr B's, they have a bait vending machine outside thier shop. The machine sells worms-eels and mummies-squid-clams. it used to be my late night eel safety valve. You would feed money into it and eels would come slithering out into a plastic bag you needed to hold up to the dispenser. machine was the size of a soda machine maybe a little bigger. beachwalker 10-15-2003, 09:38 AM A sling shot for launching the offering WAY THE FRIG OUT THERE at certain spots or on windy days. Would a skeet sling have enough sack to send something, say, 100 + yds out there ? We got some spots here that would be sick if that could be figured out. Maybe mount something on the back of the truck ? Come on ! :D Karl F 10-15-2003, 09:58 AM So, a 24/7(April 1 till Nov 1) B&T with a 24/7 Deli/Coffee/Convenience, and a large parking lot for the quick nappers.. So, where would be the best cape location for this venture? beachwalker 10-15-2003, 10:02 AM November 1st ? Better cal Andy S. on that one. I am all for Dec 1st and it's is an idea who's time has come. I can here it now. Would you like to try my new Mango Chutney Pork Rind ? richs 10-15-2003, 10:27 AM I buy live eels from a machine. Tackle Box in Keyport, NJ. They come in a styrofoam container. Don't ask me how they get air, cuz it has a lid without holes. At $5 for 2 it's a last resort, but it seems to work. Notaro 10-15-2003, 11:19 AM I don't see any craftman's plugs on any b&t store. Thermal wetsuit for clammings would be nice. More clams and seaworms for cod fishing in winter. Mr. Sandman 10-15-2003, 11:41 AM Most shops are WAY too small to carry everthing. I like it ALL, but I know it is not practical. A jumbo cabala's-size shop that I can spend ALL day in is what I would like. I would like to see a FULL selection of custom and stock rods, every reel made, all models of line and pack the store with everthing fishing. Also I would like to see a full range of outdoor clothing and boating gear. A big screen high-def surround sound TV playing fishing videos around the clock. A mount room with skin mounts of every local species of fish in that area. A starbucks inside the store FISH-ON babes as store clerks (dressed in show attire) Complete bait selection live and frozen...everthing imaginable. That is what I would LIKE...but I am willing to live with my neighborhood shop that can get what I need. hours: 24/7 364 (Xmas off, that is it) Notaro 10-15-2003, 11:44 AM how abt a fish cleaning station? after u weight a fish, u clean it. it keeps it fresher. RickBomba 10-16-2003, 03:24 AM Beer, beer, and more beer. PS I love the blatant pork roll egg and cheese references, going to see Ween in two weeks, hope those Joisey Boys play that one. Later hours, later hours, etc. Hate calling ahead for the late nite pickups. Later Rick vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2025, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
