Hello everyone,
I'm new to New England and want to take a surf-casting trip to Cape Cod this weekend, but I have never been there before, can anybody recommend some good spots to go for Bass and Blues. I don't have a truck but I'm not afraid to hike if thats what it takes. I also need a name of a cheap but clean hotel and a good tackle shop.
If anyone can give me any insight it would be much appreciated.
Thanks again
Michael

Hi Michael Mitchell...Welcome to S-B.com. Try Head of the Meadow beach in Truro. Easy access, the parking lot is right on the beach practically so it is not a hike, and the fishing is awesome. Pencil poppers and Polaris poppers kill there, as will Kastmasters and Crippled Herring lures. Sand Eels or mackeral are good dead stick baits there, and if you are fishing at night (and I hope you are) eels are the best followed by needlefish plugs and Gags Mambo Minnows in 7" size.:kewl: Good luck and let us know how you do.:bounce:

Oooops, sorry MM. Make darn sure you go see Paul at Blackbeards Bait and Tackle in Eastham on the way. They are located right next to the only Dunkin Donuts south of Orleans, if you need an address just call information and call for the address. They are right on route 6 in Eastham. And as far as a hotel, please do yourself a favor and stay at Viking Shores in Eastham, it is just beyond Blackbeards and Dunkin Donuts and trust me, it is nice to have these two places so close to where you are staying. Kevin and Leslie Holland are the owners at Viking Shores and their phone number is 508-255-3200 or 1-800-242-2131. Kevin and his wife can not do enough to make your stay more comfortable. Take this advice and your trip will be a success and a pleasure. Again, happy fishing.

One more thing MM, make sure you have breakfast at The Fairway. It also is right across from Blackbeards and Viking Shores and the food can't be beat. I think you now have all that you need. Go get em'.:rocketem: :rocketem: :liquify: :nailem:

You know KarlF, that part of the Cape is whacked direction wise, if you step 20 feet to the right or to the left, you are changing from north to south. Sorry MM, we have to get technical and use a compass. South to me KarlF is any direction that I have to drive that is south of my house, if you want to get technical, it is also east for a few seconds as the crow flies. MM...use a map, you have the essential information.

I was out there last weekend. A lot of the bait shops are closed until the weekend. But the fishing was awesome Fri night. I was at Coast Guard Beach (the one right before Head of the Meadow) Again, just walk down from the parking area. Last few hours of out going, using live eels, cows were being taken, night time. Buy some sand eels during the day, fish the same spot on a high low rig. I managed to land some nice fish during the day at that same spot. I do the bait and wait until I see action in the water, or birds then I switch to plugs. The NW wind (which is perfect for there) looks like it will remain consistant until Sat night. So get down there with live eels Thurs or Fri if you wanna get the big boys.
