Van
10-21-2003, 11:53 AM
Thanks, but not me, like Kav I'm still in my slip in quincy as long as possible. Getting to Plymouth would be a pain.

I'm planning some codding in my area soon also.

Hope you can find a good spot, the dogfish are unbelievable out there right now...:af: :af: :af:

Good Luck..

Green Harbor in Marshfield, from route 3 get off at the Duxbury/Pembroke exit (Rt 14) follow that east, bear left after the Duxbury Police station, straight across rt 3A (next to millbrook motors) then it's a few miles up on your right.
Great ramp with a dock to tie up to, instead of the mickey mouse operation the plymouth ramp provides.
The best part is once your boat is launched, you can be jigging for cod in about 10minutes, where Plymouth is a long hall to get out of that harbor. Good Luck, I just had some freshly frozen cod for dinner, it's the best eating fish in the sea.

Me and My Dad and my Uncle Pete are going thats all i know. I think high tide in plymouth is around 11:00 i dont think we need to go out that far, i'm going to talk to some people and see if i can get some reports around plymouth:D but 5am sounds good 2 me. we will help each other launch boats as there is no dock but there is a little floting dock that me and my dad use when we go out there.

Plymouth is a all tide ramp ML, no problem launching.

macojoe
10-21-2003, 03:42 PM
Your truck is not a 4X4??

macojoe
10-21-2003, 03:44 PM
Getting in is no problem just roll back and whenthe boat slides off hit the gas to go back up!! The thing is to pull the boat up the ramp at low tide, Ten you might need 4X4

mrmacey
10-21-2003, 04:15 PM
It is not believed that there was any human habitation of the Stellwagen Bank area before it sank beneath the waves as sea level rose. However, the area had at one time supported vegetation and terrestrial animals, including mastodon and mammoth. Bones and teeth from these beasts have been recovered by fishing gear from the area. I even heard there are a couple huts down there!! never know what your gonna catch!

macojoe
10-21-2003, 04:19 PM
I like to say I have a 100 mile run with my boat, But I have really120 so I should be fine. I wish I had a 60 gal tank!! I might add another tank were the I/O use to be? But I like to leave my bait tank in there??

After 7 or so just follow the party boats. They will head North towards the ledges off of Scituite. Stellwagon is about 25 miles best bet is to go over it and hit the East slope but you can also try right on the bank. Jigs from 10 to 32 ozs. are what we use usually 17 and 21 are best. Bait (clams, squid or chunks of herring, macs are good but there may be way to many dogs now. Wish I could make it but going away for the weekend, good luck

mrmacey
10-21-2003, 05:09 PM

macojoe
10-21-2003, 05:16 PM
For jigs, get some 80# to make your rigs, Some 5/0 hooks and tye them on, then yu can put pink & whit curly tails green squaids red squids all kinds of rubber.
For bait, tandame rig wit 5/0 hooks for bait with up to 10oz sinkers

I have a rod you can have forever. Nothing special but will do the trick.
Next is the reel , It has a penn 85 on it in working shape but needs cleaning, you can have that also. Or if you have a reel you can bring with you?? eaither way this reel needs line. You will need to pick up some and we can spool up at the dock.
Best i can do

mrmacey
10-23-2003, 11:48 AM
19 a gallon he only had 2 link you can split one with me or we can split 3 ways

macojoe
10-23-2003, 11:50 AM

Thanks

mrmacey

macojoe
10-23-2003, 11:54 AM
I am bring jigs but if they are not taking jigs and bait is working I will use that. I would have liked a whole gal but, what will be will be.
I think 1 gal per boat would be nice

Notaro
10-23-2003, 01:04 PM
macojoe, whole is good. I want to use a spiderwire stealth braid. 65 lbs braided line is sufficent for me. cleaning? no problem. i can take care of it. thanks,MJ. how many yard on that reel?

macojoe
10-23-2003, 01:23 PM
Its a old reel but I just checked it and all works. I put some WD40 on it and it shold be fine. But if you want to keep and use it will need a reel good cleaning and some drag washers.
It has a gear ratio of 2.33 to 1 and holds 200 yards of 40# I belive.
Its all yours for the unbeliveable price of $0.00 If you decide you don't want it throw in the trash!! Your not getting your money back!! and that is final

Notaro
10-23-2003, 01:25 PM
i will take it. but the thing is that if i want to put a braided line on it, do i need to bring a big roll?

macojoe
10-23-2003, 01:26 PM
300 yards of spider will go on with room to spare. You can take it off over the winter and put a backing if needed

got my new Nerop. Gloves today!! I will see how they will work this weekend!
Just had a knot tieing leasson with my Daughter. Just a refreasher coarse. My son has to work so she is going in his place.
When my hands get cold I can't tie a hook or anything! I made all the rigs tonight and poured about 40 sinkers. So if I break off she just has to tie 1 Knot.
I am almost ready!! I will get the boat ready tomorrow!

RI Popper
10-23-2003, 08:47 PM
Hi Guys, I'll be heading out of green Harbor myself on Saturday morning. If you guys want to meet me there, I fished that area a lot last fall and did well with the cod close to shore. I usually only use jigs and teasers. but I have some green crabs left from taug fishing. They will eat those too. I have a 20' boat with a 115 will only cruise at about 25 or so. but no need to go far at all from green harbor. The furthest is H bouey which is only 7 miles from harbor.

macojoe
10-23-2003, 08:49 PM
how far is that from plymouth habor?? we are going out of there. Would love to hook up with you. What channel will you be on.??

RI Popper
10-23-2003, 08:55 PM
when yoiu leave the harbor, take a left up the coast. It's about 8 miles north of you. But it's a lot easier for you just to drive up Rt 3 and put in in Marshfield. Or Hell, I can come down to Plymoth. Nicer local there.

macojoe
10-23-2003, 08:57 PM
well we have 3 boats going and we are all meeting in Plymouth and I did not want to mess anyone up by changing location now, But if you wnt to come to plymouth and lead the party we would be gflad to have you!

RI Popper
10-24-2003, 04:46 PM
I have a chart plotter, but Why go to stellwqagon when the larger fish are usually in shore. There are more fish out at stellwagon, but chances of getting larger ones is inside the bank.

RI Popper
10-24-2003, 06:45 PM
haddock are definately top of the yum yum list. Hopefully we get into some. I think we should all cove a line when we mark some. so that we cover some territory, and when someone hooks up good, we can converge. We'll work out that stuff tomorrow.

See you guys in the AM. Hopefully, the weather is accurate. Try to get some sleep.

OK I'm still questioning the 5 am launch time , thats 38 min B-4 low tide , what are we gaining by goin in that early? The only thing were gonna get is cold.
I'ts only 30 min to high pine ( I here there is fish there) then only a short trip north to the bell bouy ( farmums) getting 20lbs there.
I'ts going to be a great day light winds we will get a full day of fishing I'm up for a 6:30 AM LAUNCH TIME HOW ABOUT GUY'S.
The ramp has a curb at the end if your wheels go over that your screwed, I know theres plenty of water after the ramp.
If no one agrees put your boats in at 5 am and I'll meet you out there at the high pines @ 7 or 7:15 am
I cant wait to get out there 18 hr work day today got jigs and clams and luck on side

Once you guys get out around the Gurnet, look for Gannets diving... you will find mackerel from 10 to 30 feet down. Put on a christmas tree and you can jig 100 an hour. Fill up the freezer with bait for next spring and eat a few for supper. Salt 'em up good and freeze them 6 to a bag.
