I have a new boat. (New to me) so now I can expand my fishing. I know nothing about using chum. How do I make it ? where do I buy it ? Is some chum better than others ? Thanks for any and all help on this subject. Ill put it to good use next year. Jackie O

Get a grinder and start grinding!! I use mackrel for my chum. But I have gone as far as grinding up fish parts that I have cleaned.
I don't use alot of chuim but when Ido its great!!

I also grind up my own special mix. Get a big grinder #32 are about right with grinder plates with big holes 3/8, 1/2 or 3/4.
I rigged my grinder power driven.

I freeze it in gallon bags. When fishing, I put them in a weighted bucket with big holes in it hanging behind the boat.

I also cut more while fishing to give them small some "chunks" to eat.

Good Luck,
V.

I save 1/2 gal milk jugs and poorthe chum in them and freeze, when I go fishing I just tie a rope with a sinker on the handle and punch full of holes. It will melt and let chum into the water. When empty I just bring them jug home and throw away.

Nice idea, but how do you get it through that little hole???

The chum i make has the consistency of hamburg.

I took a 1/2 inch piece of stainless pipe and cut it on a angle, then filed it sharp. Put a wooden dowle on end for a handle and punch with that. Works nice

I have a wide mouth funnel that just fits the hole. I try to add a little water to make it jucy and it flows ok. I have to push it with a stick some times to help along. It takes time, but not to bad.
I make it a chum day or two in the beginning of the season. I go get the mack and the next day I grind and fill all day some times two. Then I am set for the season

Yeah, take Barfmaster fishing with you on your next boat trip. Just feed him a few cold cheeseburgers in the morning and wait for the slow rollers to work their magic. Then, watch your fountain of chum go to work.

Made a chit load a chum this past winter. Used laundry detergent bottles of different sizes. worked pretty good, cut a plastic funnel to fit the opening.....pisssa. Van, whata work out, pog's mostly and macks and got rid of left over squid and scup. I also made about 5 gallons.... 1 part sand 7 or 8 parts chum, (BM's idea, thanks) helps get that scent down :uhuh:

Thanks Mikecc ;) what a stinkin mess from hell in my basement, do that crap outside or in the garage, it was Nutts I say NUTTS!! I got blisters from cutting frozen semi-frozen:smash:

Wally world now has chum, you might wanna try their pogy chum before getting divorced. after useing that chit I'm not crazy for it, maybe I just haven't fished it right....to much dogphish

I got a 3' piece of 6" PVC, glued a bottom to it, and drilled a bunch of 3/4 inch holes all arount the bottom foot or so. Then I got an old axe handle and mounted a stainless BBQ spatula on it. Tie the thing to a cleat and let it sit in the water. Through in the chum fish du jour and chomp 'em with the sharpened spatula. Every ten minutes of so give it a few chomps. Works great.....
