View Full Version : Important stuff!!!
JohnR 04-27-2001, 08:48 AM Last hammer out the dates for the first Mass and Rhody legs for the Striped-Bass.Com tourney!!! I want some stinkin' input from you guys and gals :P
I want to have them done by mid July so we need a date for Rhody (I've got places in mind ;D ) and a date and place for Mass ...
Saltheart 04-27-2001, 09:35 AM We got to have something in June. Both moons have premo tides at the ditch. Its also prime time everywhere else in Ma and RI. Anyway , I would suggest a Ditch venture June 8,9,10 or June 22 , 23 , 24.
If the ditch idea isn't popular , we should fish one of those weekends elsewhere.
STEVE IN MASS 04-27-2001, 10:08 AM Gotta vote for the earlier date, I'll be off to OBX fishes for the later one. Also, I think SOL guys are gonna have a Ditch thing on that later date.
Fishpart 04-27-2001, 10:15 AM Lets see I have a big blue NM marked on my calander on June 21, RI beaches would be a great place to be on a new moon. Or how about Memorial Day weekend in RI (NM the Wednesday before), and the 9th and 10th of June at the Ditch which igets us out of the overflow frim Memorial Day on the Cape.
Slipknot 04-27-2001, 10:16 AM Yes, the SOL ditch fling is June 22-23-24. So maybe a Rhody meet in late May and the Mass. meet at the ditch on June 12th weekend.
JohnR 04-27-2001, 10:23 AM Is it going to screw people up if we do one leg on memorial day? June 9 works great as I'm on vacation for a couple days and can do some scouting... The SOL ditch is on the 21st right?
Canalratt1 04-27-2001, 11:06 AM The SOL Fling is the later date. June 9th would be prime for the ditch. Those minus tides are the way to go and could see some cows on the surface.
Clammer 04-27-2001, 12:36 PM It doesn't matter to me----- at the ditch you need super heavy gear /right? ,If so it might leave some members out//
JohnR 04-27-2001, 12:43 PM Clammer, while the Ditch would be included, it would not be the only place. We may centralize around there but we could easily hit places from Plymouth to Falmouth at that time.... So that shouldn't be a problem...
Saltheart 04-27-2001, 01:18 PM Memorial Day weekend would present its own set of problems I think. I'm thinking that parking and enforcement of parking restrictions will be bad that weekend. I think its the same everywhere on the big holidays like Mem day , July 4 and Labor day.
JohnR 04-30-2001, 12:44 PM If we run the Mass leg on June 9th, allowing the Ditchsters prime time in that area, what other Mass locations in that area should we fish? I'm thinking Wareham to Plymouth to Falmouth... The big Mass Striped Bass tourney is the weekend of June 29 so I want to leave that open...
We could then run the Rhody leg July 7, just starting the backside of the moon down in Narragansett/Charlestown area...
What do you think??
STEVE IN MASS 04-30-2001, 12:55 PM Need to include a few miles further North, John, so I can get my favorite spot in. ;) That is usually a good time there as well.
JohnR 04-30-2001, 01:09 PM Steve, If we include a few miles north, you'll need to bring people with you as people will need to fish in teams of at least pairs....
Saltheart 04-30-2001, 02:33 PM Call this one the Mass tourney. We can have a central location for gathering but any fish caught in MA would count. Must fish with at least one other person from the board to verify catch. I'd also make it for the whole weekend , not just Sat. How's that sound?
Got Stripers 04-30-2001, 03:29 PM Since I'm not really geared for the surf, is this limited to shore fishing only? I think I already know the answer, but maybe I can hook up with someone, maybe get a bigger stick for the night. If boat entries are acceptable, maybe some board members want to try the dark side of the force...lol.

Tight lines.
mikecc 04-30-2001, 05:59 PM sence I can't make it my canal gear is up for grabs to anybody that needs it.
10'conventional with 7000C-3.
JohnR 05-01-2001, 08:27 AM My hopes of keeping the SB Tourney just one night were to make it easier for people coming from long distances. It's easier that way if someone wants to get a motel room for one night or just crash in the car (that's what I'm doing) or to be able to sneak away for one night from the family. Maybe we can go to a full weekend on the fall legs?
GS - beacause this year is the first year and trying to keep it simple, it will be shore only. Next year I would like to add boat and fly divisions but we do want to keep it pretty simple...
Mike -- Why not? You sure you don't want to come out and fish for a night??
Fishpart 05-01-2001, 11:57 AM I believe that between mikecc and Saltheart if they both hang up on the bottom there is a chance they could let the water out of the canal....
While I would love to spend the whole weekend on the water, I really need to spend some time at home with the family. One night sounds good to me.
JohnR 05-01-2001, 12:16 PM LMAO - Well at least that would get rid of the "East End Seal"....
Saltheart 05-01-2001, 04:52 PM Big fish +strong current =heavy gear. :)
JohnR 05-02-2001, 08:21 AM OK, Mass Leg - Saturday, June 9th it is. What other places do we want to fish around there that weekend? Probably do not want to head too far up the mass coast or to the Back Beaches. We'll have better information by that time but I'd like some preliminary places to keep an eye on like Falmouth and Plymouth... Nobody needs to cough up a honey hole but I would like a suggestion or two.
I figure Saltheart is far better to recommend Canal spots for those that fish there than I am...
Bob Senior 05-02-2001, 11:20 AM John:
May I go on this one (if I get a clearance)?
What'll I need? My waders, some lures, and some rods & reels?
JohnR 05-02-2001, 11:46 AM Absolutely Bob, with the wife's OK of course... The tournament is open to all site members that meet the minimum requirements (pretty easy to do)... Have you checked out the Tourney page yet? http://www.striped-bass.com/sbtourney.shtml
Starting with the first outing in June, the Mass Leg, we'll select a place to meet (Quintals, Dunkies or M&D??) and pair people off to fish various areas and styles of fishing in similar groups... Some are going to want to work the canal, some sling some eels or dunk bait and some will plug so we'll try to group people with similar interests...
Any volunteers for leading a group in the Mass leg? Again, no need to cough up your honey hole for this...
Saltheart 05-02-2001, 12:11 PM I would suggest we meet at the Scusset or herring run parking lot at a certain time. There we team up people who know the area with those who don't. maybe set the tourney limits as 30 minutes(or 45 or whatever) from the herring run?
I think we should also try to arrange to meet somewhere where we can barbecue or even just something like breakfast at Quintals. I think if its nice weather , a barbecue (bring your own everything) would be good. I'm reluctant to suggest Scusset cause I don't know the regs but there is plenty of parking out there and we can check to see if barbecues etc is OK. Some private property would be nice so we can have a beer.
Just some ideas.
I really think teaming up would be more helpful than just naming spots. Maybe people who know for sure they are going will want to team up ahead of time to be sure everyone has the proper assortment of stuff for the spots they will be going to.
Another thing I would like to see is the exchange of cell phone numbers. We could all say "I'm trying to win something" or whatever or we could do what I hoped to describe in a "Third millenium article . that would be to have network of cell phones and more or less work it like scouting parties who get back to others when fish are found in a given area. If organized , each person would just have to make one phone call each and everyone could be tipped off as to where is hot.
As you can tell , I'm just throwing out all kinds of ideas i think would help make a gathering more fun. Hope to hear what ideas people like and what they don't and then Admiral John can make some executive decisions and announce them. I'm will to do everything i can to help people catch fish in person. I don't want to just put spots up on the board. But once there , I will tell all to those who show up. (except for where my pedestal is!! ) :)
JohnR 05-02-2001, 12:49 PM Works for me, Saltheart... When we do the Rhody leg, I may arrange some bar-b-q-ing/beer location but I'm a little far for the main leg...
BTW - I have some interesting similar ideas to your "Cell Network" to discuss with you in the future ;P
Slipknot 05-10-2001, 05:01 PM O.K. , so the date is June 9th. Does it start with a clambake at Scussett beach or what? afternoon clambake followed by striper fishing, what could be better? What time is this tournament? When does it finish? Is there a check-in and check-out? I have questions. Only a month away, time flies when your having fun. So who's bringing what? I can supply a gas grill or 2 and maybe a cooler full of ice and some non alchoholic beverages, anyone else?
Good job getting the site back today John! I didn't expect it till tonight sometime.
Oh, maybe start a new thread John for convienience to the folks with AOL speed.
