playing games! i respect most of the real fisherman on this site... but some things have gone to far!!! like where to fish, when to fish and how to fish... please spend some time checking out areas you'd like to fish and stop looking for handouts, do the work and you will be rewarded...

Well since you just added an angry post on my "Gator clips..." thread 15 minutes before you posted this I assume I contributed to your frustration? Hey sorry if I ask too much, I wasn't asking for specific spots or handouts dude, i was just looking for some help on keeping eels alive that I couldnt find in the multiple searches I have done.....are you angry at only me?:(

I was under the impression that this site was here to do exactly what your saying we shouldn't use it for. I thought this was here to help improve the over-all fishing experience, a place where we can come to ask the "Dumb" questions and get an honest answer (granted w/ a little extra dose of Sarcasm, But that is also part of the experience).

And could you also define 'Real Fisherman" for me. Is there some sort of certification process I need to go through, any Age requirements? Do I need to have a boat or a certain amount of setups? I thought just wanting to fish and having a passion for it was the only requirement.

I'm pretty sure that everyone on this site grabbed a fishing rod for the 1st time and wondered what to do with it. and I'm sure someone helped them out. This website is that "Someone"

I've been fishing 30 years, Mostly freshwater, but if someone asks me do I know what baits to throw and where is a good place to grab good-sized large-mouth I'm more than happy to tell them. Because I want them to enjoy fishing as much as I have over the years.

Sorry if I'm sounding a little preachy but that post was definitely not in the spirit of what this website is all about.

People can ask whatever they like. If the question is over the limits for someone . they don't answere it . If the question is out of line for everyone , they get no answeres or they get crap for asking. It sort of takes care of itself.

On the specific issues that were brought up , I would just caution to be careful about divulging spots , regardless of how cleverly the question is worded. I think info on spots should be handled on a personal level. one to one in emails or in face to face discussion. if you announce a spot , you will have a crowd there the next day. This fall at the Canal got me really disgusted. I don't mind sharing a spot but when a whole tribe comes in and fishes the spots like idiots it gets me ..well , you know.

The Dad Fisherman
11-12-2003, 08:51 AM
I can see the "Where to fish" being a touchy subject. everybody should be allowed their favorite spots. But shouldn't "When to fish" and "How to fish" be open to discussion. Those are the types of threads that help people become better fishermen.

JohnR
11-12-2003, 08:57 AM
Shore - don't know what has you fired up....

We've all had this discussion before and while I don't think its wise to post every nuance and method while fishing it is the nature of the site to help out. Sometimes the question gets out of hand and the replies bear that out :wall: but overall, people here are very helpful. Its a great combination of knowledge, fun, & respect.... Spots are always the tricky. Before when spots were mentioned frequently in reports, I went from seeing a couple people per night at this particulat spot, post about a good night of keepers and there was 25 people the next several nights. Even had a non site member e-mail and accused me of lying about where I caught fish. It might have been cooincidental but for a few weeks the Globes (or Heralds) fishing reports looked an AWFUL lot like ours including similar verbage. So talking currently active spots can be rough and should be talked of in generalities.

Newboater
11-12-2003, 10:41 AM
Here we go again? You mean there has been discussion on this in the past?

I would think a person with experience fishing would be more than glad to share that experience with 'newbies' such as I.

Oh well. Anyone want to know how to replace a dinged prop, let me know, I are an expert now. 6 trips, 3 dinged props.

Now to learn how to fish.

JohnR

Hehehe - when I was living outside of Boston I'd read the Globe on the way in and Herald on the way out. I forget which one it was but for a couple weeks there would be unattributed sentences which looked eerily like what was posted here. I laughed a little seeing that, Didn't last for long - may have been cooincidental

Newboater - the knowledge is to share, some of the finer points may not neccesarily work out to a new anglers advantage. I think someone with 2 weeks under their belt should not try to rig an eel :eek5: or try to throw 5 OZ jigs at the Ditch on a Newel :D

Shore Maniac...I think you need to take a little nap and come back in a couple hours with an apology to the members of this site. Something obviously has you stirred but there is no need to take out your frustrations on these folks of which I am one. If you have a problem with people discussing fishing spots, then do your part and don't discuss them openly, I just PM the people I choose to share a spot with and that is that. Also stow away that "Real Fisherman" comment, I must assume you are not familiar with many people on this site so you have no right to assault anyones ability with a rod and reel, be it boat, surf or otherwise. I must agree with The Dad Fisherman, you are way out of line here. I am the first in line to be open with people in regards to fishing and where to fish, as many people here have been with me. This is how mutual respect is formed and you ain't winning any points by acting this way!!!! Can't we all just....get along????:kewl:

Would you release it or keep it? Does it count since 1/2 of it is from a boat? :laughs:

Krispy...this forum is here for everyones enjoyment and pleasure! It is not here to insult anyone elses intellect or fishing ability, and if you think anyone here is going to just take these kinds of slanted insults then maybe you need a nap also. I put what most people on this site would probably view as the stupidest thread to come along in quite awhile up the other day and nobody showed any negativity or beat me down because of it, it was put up to kind of get people to laugh and interact, and that is what the site is all about, enjoyment and interaction! If you and Shore Maniac and anyone else that agrees with you can't understand that, then I think you guys need to take your ball and go home!!!!! Mutual respect is pretty huge here! I log on to some of the other similar sites and all I see is stupid arguements and insults and I never really see that here....everyone seems to just agree to disagree and respect what everyone else is trying to accomplish by posting here! If you guys disagree with someones thread....then just do not post!!!!! I really have enjoyed the time that I have spent here since I logged on in January, and I have met many of the folks that we talk with here, so I would think twice before I would beat someone else down for their thoughts, opinions, or questions......one nation...under God....etc.....etc....etc.

I second that.

Went through a few bashings myself this season. Both instigated by my temper and reactive due to the need to clarify my statements statements. Browsed a few of the other Bass sites and have never stuck around because they don't have the knowledge and humor that you guys bring. I agree that we should publish good spots. Many of us have put the long hours in to "discover" how a spot produces and have held on to the statistics with the selfishness of a miser.

I live on an island that is ENTIRELY a beach. Where I catch a fish is the "beach" and I am not lying.

Recently posted a question on traveling to a few spots and got some great responses from some contributors, albeit quietly like we expect.

Look forward to sharing info in the future.

if i posted exact location to where i fish.. would that make me an arse? i would probably regret it when i got there to find my 1 man rocks are populated . but hey it would be my problem right?? and if someone else is fishing there and you didn't tell anyone about it then guess what... he/she did their homework too just like you did.. i'll go and drive around and see what people are doing... heck nothing like have people staring at the back of your head while your the only nut in waders over on the back sand bar just past the break water and it's 6pm and the tide is still rising.. heh

how about your favorite spot over on the drive... hehe pick one... i'll fish the drive from kings to the guard station.. ne1 ever fish behind that place on the hill... ;) woah... thats a hot spot and a half..but good luck parking nothing like walking to your vehicle and it's not there....not cool..especially after you were told it's ok to park just make sure you leave before 9am.. and it's 1/4 past 8....

The Dad Fisherman....go to MSBA.net. The Mass Striped Bass Association meets every month in Braintree, directions and times can be found on the website. Our next meeting is the 26th of November, on Thanksgiving eve, tough night but try to come out. BasicPatrick is the club President and I am the Vice President....feel free to contact us with any questions you may have. Hope to see you in the future. It is usually a good time, the club conduct business for about an hour and 15 minutes, then an intermission for free coffee and donuts, and then we generally have some great entertainment for about an hour, followed by a big raffle of a table full of fishing related items, rods, reels, lures, tackle bags, you name it. So give MSBA a try, you might enjoy it, some good people in the club always willing to help anyone, because it is all about fun!

i wasn't trying to insult anyone nor there fishing questions. like i've said before there's great people on this site and lot's of knowledgeable fisherpersons! i know i'll never learn it all!! as for venting, yes guess i was letting off a little steam, too much pressure trying to get things together for my move, nothing worse than packing chit up :smash: and figuring how i'm getting it all there.. sorry again, ed

Shoot, missed it.....

SManic. No sweat. I have been there and you weren't so bad :)

Man is it ripping out here right now. Gusts to 55 and I just checked the Nantucket Shoals bouy info. Steady 35-50 for the last 24 hours. Seas are 20-25' with an 11 second period. That is BIG for a WNW wind !

I heard a report that there was a boat in trouble some where around the Vinyard. Don't really believe the 30' waves they mentioned but 20-25' looks AWFUL big anyway. I pray everyone was rescued. Doesn't sound like the boat did very well......

We have been cut off from the world since about 9:00 am yesterday. Don't see the boats running again until late today or tomorrow. They are stopped after 35 kts. out here.

Stay safe everyone :D I am not going anywhere......:(

JohnR
11-14-2003, 12:27 PM
Beach - what's the link to that buoy? The only 2 I've seen are 30 miles off and 50 miles off.... Haven't heard about the boat down :( either

John,

Go to www.ndbc.noaa.gov/Maps/Northeast.shtml

It was the Nantucket Shoals bouy info I was relaying....

Man and it is nippy out !

John,

I know but I can't figure out why Nantucket Shoals (yes I know it is close to the Stream) shows the same (which means we are still in it) and our fishing has been so flat the last few days.

I probably should try a little harder :smash:
