Stripers Forever – we are proud to announce that Maine Congressman Mike
Michaud has become a Cosponsor of HR 1286, the Federal bill to make
striped bass a gamefish and to end commercial fishing for the species.
Congressman Michaud understands that the real value of the striped bass is
not as a seasonal market commodity, but as a public resource that offers
social, economic and recreational benefits to millions of Americans.
Congressman Michaud joins his colleague from Maine, Congressman Tom Allen
as a Cosponsor of the bill.
We take this opportunity to ask all SF members to send e-mails to
Congressman Michaud and Allen thanking them for their support of gamefish
status for striped bass. You’ll find their email addresses below. We also
suggest that you e-mail, telephone, and if necessary, visit in person your
Congressperson’s office and request that he or she also sign on to HR 1286
as a Cosponsor. All the information that you need is available on the SF
website under “How to Take Action”. Now that the fishing season is over,
(or nearly over), for most of us, please invest a half hour to do a
thorough job by sending a copy of your e-mail to your entire state
Congressional delegation.
Call today. In NH, CT, NJ, and PA it should not be difficult to secure
the support of your Congressperson on this important bill as these are
already game fish states. There is no valid reason for these
representatives to support an activity that diminishes both the fishing
public’s recreational pleasure and the financial vitality of the
associated guiding, boating, and tackle industries. The same is true for
hundreds of other Congressional representatives around the country. In
Maine, we secured the sponsorship of our representatives by presenting
them with the facts and asking them for their support. It truly was not
difficult. They were quite glad to support our efforts. Help insure the
future of striped bass fishing for this and many future generations.
Please do it today.
