Nothin like sparing the skunk.................... RIJIMMY 11-24-2003, 01:15 PM Mee too...nuthin Im quiting for the year rwilhelm 11-24-2003, 01:30 PM Went Sat am I got the skunk I saw two schoolies taken that was it. But!!!! There was a huge school of fish way out, I think I give it one more shot Friday if the weather is decent. Bill L 11-24-2003, 01:55 PM Fished south county Saturday sunrise and sunset, and Sunday sunrise. One schoolie :smash: Both days had birds and gannets WAY offshore. Saturday morning had a quick flurry of terns in close where I was, saw two small keepers taken, that was it, then it was over. Peanut bunker was around both days, too. I'm going to keep at it. I'm still amazed at the lack of the smaller fish that usually keeps me occupied around this time. FishermanTim 11-24-2003, 01:56 PM I'm shifting my attention to the sweetwater species. Went fishing this weekend at a couple of my "go to" spots using bait and flies, and managed to coax a brown and a coupl of brook trout. You usually only encounter the die-hards this time of year. I usually fly-fish until the ponds freeze over. Last year I stopped a week before christmas. I'll tell you one thing... Freshwater gets a hell of a lot colder than salt. I went down the canal last week and had no problem standing waist-deep for a couple of hours, yet with the SAME gear, I couldn't last more that an hour before the chills set in. It's still worth it if you can trick a decent fish to take your offering. chris L 11-24-2003, 01:58 PM I played go fish and uno with my daughters . RIROCKHOUND 11-24-2003, 03:55 PM Lots of blackfish around, but no stripes.... maybe turkey day morning, predawn - sunrise in so co. ANyone else going then? 'hound beachwalker 11-24-2003, 04:13 PM Trying to. My departure plans were delayed until Friday. Will be hoping to get over to L.I. & NJ then return through around 12/2. Good luck Turkey day and maybe will throw a few in Rhody on way back through. Sounds like NY/NJ/CT/LIS area will work fine. piemma 11-24-2003, 04:23 PM Mr. Wiggely at another site says he slammed fish saturday at Beavertail on rubber. I fished all weekend including this morning and never got a touch. I am goin' till the 30th and then into the workshop to make a mess of Dannys and Needles. Bill L 11-24-2003, 04:45 PM 'Hound, I've gone on T-day as a ritual for the last six years at least, rain shine or snow ... will be out this time too. Got fish more times than not, but usually not much in size RIROCKHOUND 11-24-2003, 04:48 PM BW... RIROCKHOUND 11-25-2003, 12:22 PM 179... Was on EB sat am with a bunch of students... saw the birds, bait and some decent splashes, but no fish caught that I saw..... It cant be over yet... I havent said so.... 'hound Rappin Mikey 11-25-2003, 01:23 PM 179, are you some kind of teacher or something? 179 11-25-2003, 01:29 PM Rappin, Me a teacher, no I only wish I had one of the f/t paying p/t jobs. LOL. But I usually fish with a couple of guys who are teachers. Rappin Mikey 11-25-2003, 03:07 PM Despite the extrinsic benefits, (vacations, hours, workin w/ sexy college interns) the intrinsic benefits are also quite rewarding. I saw a kid make a 180 degree turn around this year, and new I was an influencing factor. That's the greatest benefit of the job by far (besides the vacations). Anyway, I barely make enough to keep me fishin all season. It's not like I work in CT. Think about it this way. Take what you would pay a babysitter an hour. Then multiply that figure by 30 (# of students in a typical class). Then multiply that figure by 7 (hours per day) then multiply that figure by 5 (days in a work week). I know that sounds a bit ridiculous, but some of us deserve it. I bust my a$$ every day at work (when I am not on this web-site). Moses 11-25-2003, 03:26 PM Fished Gb early sunday morning, 330am - 7am. Ran into a few schoolies on top water plugs (black/purple 3.5 oz Yozuri) and 1 keeper at 32". Still hearing from local shops that fish are around between Gb and Newport, RI (as far south as I have gone to date to fish). piemma 11-25-2003, 03:57 PM Originally posted by Moses Fished Gooseberry early sunday morning, 330am - 7am. JohnR 11-25-2003, 04:49 PM Moses - welcome to S-B (so you know, there is no coastline between the Ditch and Narragansett - shhhh ;) ) RIJIMMY 11-25-2003, 04:57 PM Whats the ditch? piemma 11-25-2003, 04:58 PM The Ditch is the Cape Cod Canal Moses 11-25-2003, 05:14 PM The Ditch & East end of canal was full of mackerels last weekend, 11/15 - 11/16. Fished early and hard both days and only snagged a few macks, no stripers and blues. Hence why I started working my way south. I'll be heading down that area sometime over the next few days and bet some of the river mouths still yield some decent fish. Good txsgiving to you all. RickBomba 11-27-2003, 02:31 PM I found Mikey today, does he count as a fish. He sure smells bad! Later, Rick breakfast fish 11-27-2003, 04:45 PM anyone been catching blue back herring or tinker macks???????? if they are around why aren't the bass???????
