Seem kind of dumb to anyone? This much for a huge spinning reel? From what I've seen spinning gets kind of stupid after 30# class.....
800yds/80#
fishweewee 11-27-2003, 03:37 PM That's one of the most ridiculous fishing devices ever made.
It's all wrong for offshore - imagine the right angle forces a big pelagic can impose on the line between the spool and the roller guide.
Stupid, just stupid. Might be worth something...as a curio only.

InshoreAngler 11-27-2003, 03:40 PM Yup.....i was about to say outright stupid also but didn't want angry critisism from an owner of one. Who would want this thing anyway?? Imagine 800# marlin pressure on that roller??!! Seems like the fish would pull it right out of the belt, or rip your torso out, whichever first.
shore manic 11-27-2003, 03:47 PM doesn't seem practible, publicity stunt? hey wee-wee ya got ya bid in? 2 penn internationals for that price..
InshoreAngler 11-27-2003, 03:50 PM things huge.....
check out from the VS site
"As part of this new program, Van Staal is suspending the sales of the VS400 Offshore Reel. This will provide us the opportunity to review potential design and performance enhancements for this innovative reel while giving us the ability to focus on the more standard reel sizes in the VS Series."
fishweewee 11-27-2003, 03:53 PM I took a look at one a few years ago at a fishing show when it first came out. It looked just as stupid as then....
Save ya money and buy a real offshore reel - Accurate Platinum Twin Drag 50W/80W/120W. Now THAT's a reel!

InshoreAngler 11-27-2003, 03:55 PM or a good ol' international right
fishweewee 11-27-2003, 04:07 PM Sure, but after you taste that those Accurate twin drags will do, you'll never look at a Penn Int'l again...
Christian 11-27-2003, 04:33 PM guy should cut his fingernails.
InshoreAngler 11-27-2003, 04:40 PM :laughs:
i get a kick outta how observant of details everyone is on this board
Notaro 11-27-2003, 04:46 PM It doesn't look good for offshore. It should be a conventional reel. It should be used for...nothing?
striperjerk1 11-27-2003, 06:00 PM Had one of those in my hands just last week. ;)

What's with the 2 line rollers
fishweewee 11-28-2003, 07:47 AM 2nd line roller is so that they can charge you for the 2nd titanium line roller. :bshake:
Big Vern 11-28-2003, 10:31 AM And they wonder why they have such money troubles...
Mr. Sandman 11-28-2003, 01:32 PM What you need to do is team that reel up with one of those giant plugs :
InshoreAngler 11-28-2003, 01:58 PM
