View Full Version : New (To me Plugs)
RIROCKHOUND 11-30-2003, 10:54 AM I know two of these guys already (The CCP and PJ) The larger popper though.... Gibbs?
I doubt these have any real value, not that old, maybe 70's? But figured I'd post em for fun.. they will be sued to decorate my "Man Table" (Not quite up to BM status yet, I'm only allowed a table... downside of living in an Apt. not a house....

BigFish 11-30-2003, 10:59 AM MMMMmmmm...pluuugggssssss!!! I like em' RRH, good lookin' plugs, manly lookin' plugs, and I also live in a small apartment. However, it is too small for me to even have a man table....I have a man "pile" that just moves from one spot to another.:laugha: Where did you get those plugs? Were they just lyin' around or did you pick them up somewhere?:kewl:
BigFish 11-30-2003, 11:01 AM I think that larger popper looks a little like a Cap'n Andy???? Could be wrong but one of the other plug experts will know!:uhuh:
RIROCKHOUND 11-30-2003, 11:15 AM BF, that was a thought as well, that it was a Cap'n Andy...
Got em from my grandfather's basement, he doesnt fish anymore, was kind of a gear head who bought way more than he needed.. too bad none of it was really old, but a lot of nice JJ's tins, tons of flies, some older reels (Squidder) etc....

I don,t know chit about plugs but the middle one is PT Jude/I have two beat up ones /////////////////////;)
tlapinski 11-30-2003, 12:14 PM the blue/white on top is a gibbs.
Mike P 11-30-2003, 02:29 PM Agree with Toby---the popper is an original Stan Gibbs Popper.
The new guys re-introduced it but it has red painted eyes instead of the old stick-on black and yellow.
Slipknot 11-30-2003, 03:27 PM Cast-a-way popper
RIROCKHOUND 11-30-2003, 04:29 PM Thanks Guys...
Yeah the small PJ says on the bottom Point Jude 5/8 oz
The Creek Chub was just as obvious, and provides a nice exampple to try and turn....
The blue popper I wasnt 100% sure...

BigFish 11-30-2003, 05:33 PM Still not sure that blue popper is a Gibbs???? Don't think I ever saw Gibbs use that wavy paint style! Is anyone positive????

tlapinski 11-30-2003, 06:34 PM not sure on age, sorry.
i may shoot down tomorrow night or tuesday morning. depends if i am working tuesday or not.
Mike P 11-30-2003, 11:15 PM I'd say around the 60s on the Gibbs.
I had a whole bunch of those poppers with rough finishes that Stan gave to my Dad when he worked at Maco's. He gave them away as test demos to see how they produced, before he went into full production. They had that wavy paint but weren't clear-coated.
Flaptail 12-01-2003, 11:06 AM The blue and white is a Gibbs 1 0z or P-1 Cast-a-lure, not castaway. Circa 1958-60
Slipknot 12-01-2003, 11:24 AM cast a lure, castaway, stowaway, whatever, it's a plug for catching fishies :D I had one of them once.
RIROCKHOUND 12-01-2003, 11:24 AM Thanks guys, a bit older than I figured.. the other two must be newer, both are non-wood... I'm guessing late 60's-70's?
Not sure when PJ stopped making lures...
