Smokey and I livelined herring Friday night. Hit the tides perfect but caught nothing.
I have never seen it easier to get a couple dozen herring. Smokey was getting up to 8 on one dip of the net.
We fished for almost 3.5 hours. There were some occasions where it looked like something was belting the herring (lots of herring excitement then a good dip of the rod tip). I believe it was very small bass just wacking them around. No runs or hook ups.
Did hear some reports that good size fish are in the area. We hope to get at least one more shot with herring next weekend. Weekend after that I have to go to a wedding. I can bring a pole or 2 but I doubt we'll have room for the livewell. By the last weekend in May , we usually start jigging but since this year everything is late , maybe we can do buckies till the end of May.
Fish or not , it felt great to be on the water Friday night. I don't know if its mental or if the moisture from the water does it but for some reason I feel like a million bucks when I'm on the water. :)
