View Full Version : Real Tree Or Fake Tree?
BigFish 12-06-2003, 11:15 PM Well, which do you prefer? Lets open a can of worms here....this should prove controversial!:spin: I grew up with a fake tree and it was all I ever knew....I loved that old beatup tree because I am an old fashioned, traditional guy! However, once I got out of the house and on my own, got a real tree and I never looked back! It just ain't Christmas with a fake tree and I frown whenever I see one. :bc: Not to mention some of these pieces of crap they sell today....FishChicks sister bought a new fake tree the other day and the lights come already on the tree!:hs:  What happens when the lights fail? Throw the whole tree away?:smash: I love the smell of a new tree and I do not mind the mess after cleaning up! For the pleasure I get out of it, it is worth it to me! My brother has a fake tree and every year we go over to his house and the damn thing always looks the same, year after year!:yak: Which do you have?
Notaro 12-06-2003, 11:23 PM Yo, are you surfcasting on the board? You awfully seemed to be bored. Are you and fishchick supposed to be sharing holiday warmth away from the screen?;)
I got me a fake electric tree. One problem and I'll be zapped hard like a national lampoon.
BigFish 12-06-2003, 11:26 PM It's the holidays, just trying to get people in the holiday spirit! Is it working?:kewl:
Notaro 12-06-2003, 11:28 PM If you mean by walking all day long with a frozen ICED jean and a pair of frozen feet today... No, my family and I aren't getting into it now. We don't shop anymore!:( :(
The Dad Fisherman 12-07-2003, 01:53 AM I like Real trees My wife likes Fake.....Hence we have a fake.
I also like to fish...Got pick which battles I want to win
UserRemoved1 12-07-2003, 06:22 AM most of the fakes out there look like fleepin TOILET BRUSHES.
If you want a nice fake one you gotta spend dough. They look real though....
I'd never have real, I personally think it's a waste of a resource. It's a symbol, not something to kill a tree over....
gilligan 12-07-2003, 07:54 AM fake. wrap a sheet around it after new year then break it out next year .all set up! bada boom bada bing. hang a real wreath(sp???) for the smell. thats what ma taught me anyway. the wife dont like it though.
macojoe 12-07-2003, 11:19 AM We always hada real when growing up. But I went fake when i got married. Did it for about 15 years and then had to throw it out. Started to use real and did for about 5 years!! But I am glad to say that we got a real nice fake on a after xmas sale and for the last 3 years we are fake again!!
Get one of them pine sented candles and you can have all the smell you want.
I have a few people that ask me every year is that real or fake they can't tell!!
BigFish 12-07-2003, 12:04 PM Maco Joe...I am glad you are happy with your tree! Merry Christmas to you and yours! Good reasons...all of them for going artificial! Hey I enjoy throwing artificials.....that does not mean its a bad thing, right!
Slingah 12-07-2003, 12:09 PM real if we get one at all.
BigFish 12-07-2003, 12:12 PM Come on ya SCROOGE! Where the heck is Santa gonna put all your new plugs, waders, and fishing rods and reels that you have on your list? You gonna be fishing with 9' coal stick!:uhuh:
No tree up this year...but the past few years have been a small fake tree...and only because space is limited and it was given too us. But I prefer a REAL tree....reminds me of being a kid and my father taking us into the woods to cut our own (I swear he picked the heaviest and FARTHEST from the house on purpose;) )
BigFish 12-07-2003, 12:17 PM I know what you mean Jenn.....sounds like your Dad is a good man!:kewl:
MrsSFrances 12-07-2003, 02:02 PM This year we have a real tree, first time in many years, I grew with a fake tree, and we do have a fake tree still, but since my hubby has started making plugs, its covered in paint dust...Sooooo we got a real one this year...its really pretty, leans to the left alittle bit, but hey what ya going to do...
i like both fake and real...:D
MrsSFrances 12-07-2003, 02:10 PM This is our real tree this year...I am so mad I can not find all our plugs that I hang on the tree..:( They are some where in the mess of this house:af: :D

MrsSFrances 12-07-2003, 02:39 PM nice maco..i think it looks real...hey maybe we should all post pics of our trees...hehe..i know sounds corney..huh:rolleyes:

:D :p
HighTide 12-08-2003, 09:48 AM Mine are fake:D
Jimbo 12-08-2003, 12:52 PM Definitely Real! Family activity, we all pile in the truck and hit some tree farm as far out in the middle of nowhere as I can find. They pick it out and I use the dull bent saw the tree farm provides to cut it down. I get covered in mud, snow and needles cutting it down and when we get home we always find out we bought one taller than the cieling so then there's the trimming off the bottom, hands frozen and covered in pitch, three voices saying over and over, "Daddy (or Honey) when are you going to bring it inside?" Then once inside there's always the discussion about recipes for putting aspirin in the water so it lasts longer, then making me redo the lights five or six times before my womenfolk take over decorating. Sound like a pain in the neck? After all that I sit and have a beer and watch thempicking out ornaments and singing and carrying on and I wouldn't have it any other way.
chris L 12-08-2003, 03:46 PM I dont put up a tree ! But I do have my menorah set up with real candles not electric ones .
well said JIMBO,almost the same thing here except I dont go too far for the tree, but I do help with the lights then just sit back and have a couple of cold ones,OH yea and when its all dec. I gotta put up the angel cause she cant reach that high..but it wouldnt be the same with a fake one....HEY this year she put up a smaller tree for me with just fishin chit, and she dec. the whole tree:D
Christian 12-08-2003, 04:03 PM i was digging out the lights for the christmas tree and found an albert einstein type wig just like a second ago. i went out on my front porch and screamed.
MrsSFrances 12-08-2003, 04:06 PM ummmmm...did you have the wig on when you went out and screamed:laughs:
Jimbo 12-08-2003, 04:32 PM Mrs. SF, don't encourage him. Christian, I guess sometime you had a bad experience with Albert Einstein, that's between you and the genius, I don't even want the image in my head, but the question here is, "real or fake?" Chop it yourself, bargain for one off the lot or pull it out of the box fully decorated?
Any Long Islanders out there remember back when the only place you could buy a fake tree (or a pool table) was Harrows on 110?
chris L 12-08-2003, 04:39 PM Albert didnt put up a tree either . His menorah was much prettier than mine with real candles . SCREAM louder I didnt hear you !
Slingah 12-08-2003, 05:45 PM E-M = C SQUARED!!!!!!!:smash: :smash: :laughs: :laughs: :D
Christian 12-08-2003, 06:53 PM real tree. yes i had it on when i screamed. i got to wear it fishing next season and maybe icefishin. got to get a mullet wig too so i look like an awsome 80s rocker and chris.:D :)

Been getting real trees for years then last year the landlord said no more so I had to go back to the old fake one. Just not the same :(
Mike P 12-08-2003, 09:11 PM OK, who here is old enough to remember when fake silver trees with the colored light wheel were the Xmas rage?
Krispy 12-08-2003, 09:13 PM anyone else put real candles on their tree?
MrsSFrances 12-08-2003, 10:26 PM No candles on our tree...I like our house:p
