I want a Squidder 140 and I've been searching ebay. The going prices are about $40. or so plus about $8.00 shipping. Most of the are in good shapr with a little pitting on the cross bars. Does this seem like the way to go or should I jusy save my penny's and get a new one?????

You could Buy a new one and the pitting on the bar is no biggie at You can replace it

Nice real like BM says!! I have no use for one but the parts are all over the place. How much is a new one?? I would never buy anything for more then 1/2 price and this should include the shipping. But the choise is yours.
I have one 140 and I have converted two others to 146 for Fluke fishing!! they are a great Fluke real when they are converted!! I have 4 146's now and one as a 140. Butn they don't sel the 146 anymore!! :af: :af: :af: Penn has discontunied them now.

They are about $70. new plus tax.

They are the same real just skinnyer. 140 will go on 146 and 146 will go on 140 the same gear ratio and all. Just skinnier. so a 146 will take less line.
I think the wider spool 140 is a great casting reel and will casr much better then its smaller counter part.
Eaither way they are both great reels IMO.

I'd go for the new one for $70 over a used one for $48.

There isn't much you can do to really kill one, but the drag washers and bearings can wear out, and if you have to replace them the cost gets close to that of a new one. Plus, the right side bearing is a PITA to replace. You don't know what kind of gunk the previous owner put in the bearings to try to make it easier to cast. I've sen everything from STP to wheel bearing grease in there when I've looked at used Squidders.

I wouldn't sweat the pitting---if you get a brand new one, it'll have pitted frame bars inside of two seasons. It gives the reel that distinctive "Squidder look" :laughs: They're made to fish with, not to admire.
