Was fishing last night with a superb fisherman and brough him to a Rhody spot that hasn't throttled wide open yet but has produced at least a pick small keepers... Got down last night an hour before the tide turned and had some hits (well he did) on a dani swimmer (non Gibbs) and he got a fairly fat - just sub-keeper bass in this spot. Over the next two hours we were both able to raise some fish and get a couple whacks but that was it. Another fellow was drifting chunks (and tangling with my line >( occasionally - I hate when people, even though they were there first, effectively shut down a wide range of area by running lines 120 degrees apart and fanning out a big area of water) and had no success and managed to break a new 9 foot St Croix that he only used a few times ...
There were herring and other baitfish in the area and the bass were wacking them but not our Dani/Danny's ...
When Steve departed, I switched from the Danny (Gibbs) back to an olive 7inch Mambo and first cast, 15 pound, 35 inch bass. That fish was flipping, jumping, tailwalking, doing cartwheels and probably would have been saying all kinds of vulgarities had her the ability to speak. I hollered to my friend as he was probably only 200 feet down, heading towards the cars but I guess he didn't hear me... This fish was going nuts and was a great fight on 12 pound test and my 8' Loomis with a dropping current. Absolute Blast!!! The fish ambushed the Mambo about 4 feet from the opposite bank right in front of two guys that were drinking and talking about paintball. Scared the pi$$ out of them when that bass started going nuts...
Wound up with 4 more between 24 and 30-32 inches. They were still there but it was 3:30 in the morning and today is mother's day and....
