Hi, I'm the new guy on the board. This was my first full year of surfcasting and i was wondering about your opinions on the penn squidders. I just got one for Christmas, hoping i could bring in that 50 with it:laughs: Also is there any tips, since it does not have the levelwind.

I had one for years, probably one of the best reels for the beach or even out on the boat,if you can master that reel (casting), you should never have a hard time with any other conventional reel.I know I had times when I was ready to throw that reel in the trash because of the backlashes, aggravations, etc. So ... I stuck with it.... and that's all I use in the surf....CONVENTIONALS !

There are better reels out there, but ain't none of them cost less than $100. Buying the Squidder is the best $65 you'll ever spend. They just turn and turn with minimal care---you just cannot kill them, short of running one over with an 18 wheeler.

Oh yeah...one more thing...make sure you get the reel with a anodized aluminum spool, this makes it much lighter than the stainless steel one(if they still come that way)...Have fun !!

Inshore Angler, I am not the codfather who advised you to get the rod. This is the only message board I belong to. I guess you got the codfathers messed up:confused:
