well for the better part of a year I have been looking foward to fishing the cape. last year I had an incredible time fishing northern MA, plenty of fish nothing huge but lots of fun. I am currently living in Utah trying to live my fishing dreams by going to Lake Powell and laying into a couple of schooly style stripers it just does not meet my needs! From all reports it has been quite slow mabey I have read into it wrong
I planned my trip around the canal derby which puts me in town the middle of next week and leaving the middle of the following.
Unfortunately my business wont allow me to stay till the end of the week.
I hate the thought of missing the fish by a week, so I am looking for suggestions. Should I be looking south? possibly Rhode Island? If so any suggestions where? I am not looking for secret information. Just get me close

look if you ever come west you will know who to e-mail for good information on trout fishing. Looking forward to your posts

Things are not at all slow at the canal . Infact just the opposit.
The canal is hoppin with 20-30 Lb fish the stripers are mostly hitting on a west tide and they are throwing all types of lures > The most popular are a Olive backed Gaggs Mambo Minnow 7" and the Gibbs Silver side black back Polaris Popper (pogie) all sizes, Buck Tail Jigs and of corse herring either Fresh Dead or Live.
I saw a 47" taken at Old Bridge RD on live herring last week.
The fish are all thru the canal .but most guys will still fish west of the herring run.

Got to go will follow up on this later

Hey Fishguts, you should hit http://209.140.146.3/bronzeback/forum/bronzeboard.pl

the Bronzeback board, or hit the link from my Fishing Page http://www.rgsiroisco.com/fishingpage.htm and post about Lake Powell. Ed G, Bubba from Yamamotto Baits, Bassdozer and others from out there can help you out on putting some stripers in the boat.

Good luck and tight lines.

Fishguts, how do you plan to fish? Plugs, bait, fly...

Right now the Canal is getting pretty hot and by all reports, the west end being the strongest. There also seems to be some action in the salt ponds in Rhody and many of the southern beaches of the Cape.

great news thanks for the posts. john I will be fishing whatever it takes to catch them. Being away from the coast I have a limited selection of plugs a few yo zoris in varing colors the old stand by bucktails and of course some topwater gear. I would love to catch a few on top water plugs any suggestions? There is nothing better than watching the water explode and bringing a nice bass to shore. I will be fishing from shore and boat I have an uncle that owns a home by the maritime acadamy and slips a boat at the marina a short walk away. so what are the current limitations on the herring? what are the legal ways to take them? Is there such a thing as beating the crowds on the canal? I am planning on living on very little sleep for the week so I am game for anything. Are the blues still on Cotuit?

Fishguts, I know what you mean by "missing the fish"....I am about an hour a half to Rhody at best and two from the Cape.....not TOO bad but between that and all the " other stuff" that we have to deal with in life, I dont get there as much as I would like :( Drives me absolutely bonkers when I go to the Cape for a weekend and all the fish show up two days later! >( kinda hard to up-and-go fishing before or after work :( (yes John some of us are jealous HA!HA! )

Going Sunday though! :) :) :) :) :) :)
Very excited ...can you tell?? :) :) :) :)
