View Full Version : Pearl-Ex
After talking to CS a couple of weeks ago I decided to pick up some Pearl-Ex to try. This is a very fine powder that can be added to paint, epoxy etc. to add a pearlescence effect. Capesams warned me that a" little goes a long way". Well he isn't kidding. I added a small clump (at least I thought it was small):smash: to the epoxy and mixed again. It brushed on without knowing it was in the epoxy (feeling wise) but the effects are unreal. It comes in a bunch of different colors too. :D
capesams 01-01-2004, 05:19 PM  oooooooo!...see ya got a pc. o tail on there:D

Diamond Tackle 01-01-2004, 07:38 PM Nice work Newell, as usual. That pearl really stands out. So you mixed the Pearl into the epoxy ?. interesting stuff.
Raven 01-01-2004, 08:29 PM its like 360 bucks for a pint or a half pint - somethin like that
but - the truck its painted with - that lives next door changes color as you walk by....purple to silver to green to blue and back again ....which i thought would be perfect for this application. i guess it has the finest
(smallest) grade of metalflake particle in it there is... funny is that the owner has countless stories of these old ladies trying to tell him at signal lights that his truck is turning color as if thats a serious problem....:smash:
I am going to make up a large pencil popper . Use just plain white for color, then mix the colors up a little. ( I bought like 5 differrent colors. Will post pics.
Second thought I'll have 1 ready for tomorrow:D

hey NG-where'd ya get that stuff?
Canalman 01-02-2004, 08:49 PM Dave - I can show you how to get the most out of that stuff if you want... at least the way I use it. I don't mix it into the epoxy I think it's too random. I like to concentrate it with airbrush. If you look at the back of my swap plug you'll see the Blue hues over the olive... that's all pearl-x interfearance blue. I mix it with a glaze and water and spray it through the airbrush. You can get a 2 tone effect as well by tinting the glaze with some paint of another color. Don't use a lot of paint though I dip the end of a toothpick into a drop of paint to tint it... very subtle... it goes a long way. I'll bring the stuff tommorow if you want to see what I mean.

Striperknight 01-02-2004, 09:49 PM Is Pearl-Ex a paint or glitter?
