Is there any type of filter or e-mail program I can use to cut down on it?:af: JohnR 01-05-2004, 08:56 PM There are a bunch of programs you can but and download - go to download.com . Step 2 is to change your e-mail addy fishaholic18 01-05-2004, 11:45 PM I really don't want to change my e-mail addy. Too many people to tell. I get 75-100 e-mails a day, mostly bogus Ms security update and critical patch crap. My anti virus picks them up and quarrentines them. I opened one up once and screwed my whole rig up. It's a pain in the a** because I have to delete all this crap every day. I don't know what to do about it. I get alot of Viagra mail too, I was going to try it but the wife said NO!!:af: Caffeine fisherman 02-01-2004, 11:32 PM Here are a couple of good articles I found from my two favorite tech sites. tecktv.com and pcmag.com http://www.techtv.com/callforhelp/answerstips/story/0,24330,3597682,00.html http://www.pcmag.com/search_results/0%2C3015%2C%2C00.asp?qry=spam&site=PC+Magazine Hope this helps. I am using msn and they are great for reducing spam. I'm lucky if I get more than two spams a week. You also may have a spy ware program hidden on your pc. Spy ware keeps track of where you go and sends it to advertisers. One blatant program is gator. Here is a link to a program to see if you have spy ware on your system. http://www.safer-networking.org/ Also I highly recommend the Norton Antivirus and Internet security package. It not only has antivirus but a firewall. A personal firewall can not just prevent unwanted downloads to you but unwanted uploads from a hidden program on your system. This package also rocks for pop up blocking and add blocking. fishaholic18 02-01-2004, 11:59 PM Thanx Caffeine fisherman, I'll check it out. hooked 02-02-2004, 12:10 AM I'd recommend you try Qurb. The junk mail still gets downloaded to your local mail app (outlook or express) but messages from senders not in your permit list are quarantined in a folder for easy review or deletion. There's a free trial at http://www.qurb.com. macojoe 02-11-2004, 07:35 PM I got a new email and still use the old one for junk!! Anytime I have to sign into a site I use taht old address and I never get email in my regular address. Been workig good form 2 tears now still no spam in my box! :D Caffeine fisherman 02-17-2004, 02:51 PM Good article on cnn.com, If you have a have high speed connection, spammers could download a virus onto your system and trun you machine into a spam proxy server. http://www.cnn.com/2004/TECH/ptech/02/17/spam.zombies.ap/index.html vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2025, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
