I'm thinking of bringing a light rod into the collection.
9 footer or so. Fast action with sack. Lure range 1/2 ounce up to 1 ounces or so
I've got 6500's in house, but would go down to a 5500.
A rubber bait rod is what I'm thinking of.
Any thoughts?

I think you would be happier with a 7 or 7'5=====all the guys I know that throw alot of plastic , not one of them has anything that large ========================================exceprt the ditch crew/

And most guys who throw light plastic baits also go with spinning I think. I've got a 4000 Stradic somewhere around here............

I have seen some incredible distance with half ounce plugs with spinning reels and 10-11 foot steelhead rods. I was getting outcast by 30% using a 5500MagE on an 8' loomis. So that 10 from the beach might be awesome...

Goosefish, I don't know if you can get the blanks to build on, but the St Croix Tideamaster has some nice actions for plastics. I have a lighter 8' ( rated 3/8 to 3/4, but throws poppers to 1oz fine). I've had my eye on the heavier ones

Have three rods that I use with plastics//all for different cpnditions=====but I<m seldom fishing off shore///but do you need that super cast=====that 10/11 footer I have serious doubt, that will give you the desired action===It will work with Storm Shads =that are a basic cast & retreive style plastic// I really doubt if you can finess fish with that big a setup =even if its the whippy steelhead /////////////:confused:

Small chit.. pearl storms.. 1 ounce I believe. saaamoked em everytime..
reel was a 7o4z big spool allows the line to peel off easier...

Clammer i hear you out. But most if not all my bassing is done off the rocks. I wouldn't want to go below 8'
St Croix, Toonoc ,does make some sweeties. I've fished Loomis rods over the years as well.
I'm still thinking 1 ounce to be the sweet spot for the rod.

I'd go with a Batson RS1087. Half the price of a 1083 (at least when they're not on close-out ;) ), and you won't snap it after 10 fish :D

Seriously--they're both great rods, and they'll both cast 3/4 oz lures well, but the Batson can cast up to 2-1/2 oz and has more backbone.

the 1087 is a decent little rod. i wrapped one two years ago for fisshing the Ctriver spring. landed bass up to high 30#'s on it, but did get manhandled on two fish that i couldn't even turn. :eek: throws bombers like a dream, but was definately pushed with 3.5 ounce pencil poppers.

Thanks. Got some thinking ahead. There's a slight lean toward the Batson 1087. Then again I may hold off and stick with the bigger rods, which I have and tend to favor. My tackle room is full of big stuff--9/0 Siwash hooks, bank sinkers, heavy plugs, heavy jigs, etc.
I know there are times when smaller rigs out fish heavier rigs, its just when I head out into the night, its the meat rods that I bring. Its been this way the past few years. But looking at "Got Stripers" rubber got me thinking.........................................? ???

Only wish my pockets had a bit more depth.

take a look at the batson 1087 8'10" and the batson 70L 7' both should cast from 1/2 to 2 or close to it .
