i bought some mags and tried to put them in one of my 7000c3's. did some experimenting with placement, #'s, spacing, etc... but i just can't get it where it should be. can anyone that has worked with 7000's lend me some help or send me the right direction? all the info i have come up with on the internet deals with 6000 size abu's and penns. i tried to apply this to the 7000's, but the results were not what i had hoped for. also, where can i buy or get the parts to make knobby adjustors like the 525tmag that would fit the 7000? thanks.

Give me a few to think about it. I might know some people who've played around with magging. I know I guy who magged a penn 535 with a knobby adjustor. Sounds like you found some info on the penns though.

Have you checked with the English and Australian sites?

It is my understanding, however, that most of the 7000 class reels in this country, when used for casting, end up from Hatteras up to Cape Cod. Your in the zone. I'II see if I can't track this guy down.

Toby, you need to talk to Grampa Old Spook. I would bet he could tell you how to do it.

What did you use for a spool???? The mag reels that I*ve seen have spools that are flat on the end for the magnets to establish a field on.Even the old ocean city Inductors had a plate epoxied to the spool for the mags to react to in both the early plastic and the later aluminum spools. They had like 5 magnets in them. Its really none of my bussiness but I*m curious-- why magnetics these have a great system already in them that is now being copied by others(Shimano--Quantum--etc) by varying the blocks in size and the amount of them and the side bearing adjustment the c-3 has a great set up for most uses.On the T-mag I think that knob adjuster replaces the click assembly.I have the 525 mag and the t-mag and except for tournament casting adjusting the mag isnt that critical. The biggest thing with these is when you disengage into freespool the shaft is seperate from the spool so only the spool spins not the shaft. The gs series 525- 535 and the 545 don*t do this-- everything turns like in thier regular reels. If your just looking for a bigger reel with a mag Penn used to make series with this they were the 970-980-and the 990.I have these and a bunch of spare spools for them but I dont think they would fit in the c-3 However if you find parts let me know I*LL try one.

Goosefish, definately let me know if you make any progress! thanks. i am gonna try to contact the hatteras jack guys. i looked on GOS's website. that is where i got a lot of my ideas started, but i just couldn't put it together. i'll drop him a PM.

Bawana - just doing it for tinkering sake and passing the winter by. i have abu mag elites, penn mags, etc... and i just figured i would mess with a 7000 size since that is the reel i throw 99% of the time when i am tossing convench.

Lapinski--talked to the guy on the phone. He's magged a 7000, however he didn't really tell me how. Said he used stuff that he had on hand and stuff that he got from hardwear stores. "It don't look all that good but it casts." He used an acorn nut? for the knob, and fiddled around with it before he got it down.
I don't have a how-to for you. But it is possible, all you need is some time.
Let me know how your making out
