Bawana 01-10-2004, 03:32 PM My sis lived near Beaufort SC.on Ladys Island-- next Island to Parris Island which is just above Savanah. The people down there think its to cold to fish with the water temp only in the mid to high sixties.Me and my brother-in law use to have to go like 20/30 miles offshore to fish wrecks. They sink a lot of ships and tanks down there and call them Fish sancuaries. From the wreck Betsey Ross we could see ships in the main channel going into Savanah.Water down there is fairly shallow for a long way out. Lots of spiny Dog fish (Just like Stellwegen)Did get small black sea bass- Sand sharks(right off Hilton Head-/Harbor Town ( big inlet there into intercoastal)Also a real Ugly fish called a Oyster cusk that has poison spines.I guess most of there fishing starts when the water is up into the 80*s.They do have some kind of big Cobia run that they fish for with eels but i belive that isnt till later in season.Did see a lot of Dolphins( Bottlenose- like Flipper)swimming in pods. They have house on deep water creek right off the intercoastal and the dolphins used to come right up to the dock.Water can be flat one day and like west end of canal on a bad day the next(brutal).Savanah waterfront is really on a river and all the water down there is loaded with dirt or mud and is dark.To do any real fishing you would have to go out to Gulf Stream.Thats like 4 hr run. vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2025, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
