Bob Popovics ultra shrimp is a good looking, durable and effective fly.
For effective and simple ties, I use the following to catch bass that seem to be feeding on shrimp:
For daytime when the shrimp dart about the grass cover – white medium dress craft fur Clouser.
For night when the shrimp come out of their cover and swim around near the top – small fly with short marabou or craft fur tail and crystal chenille body. Color depends on where I’m fishing. Olive or red in dark, and white if fishing around lighted docks.
I don’t think color is too critical, nor is the actual fly. I think size and action matter more.
