View Full Version : American Chopper show
Hooper 01-13-2004, 07:56 AM Does anyone else enjoy watching this show?
My wife and I watch it every week and sometime we are laughing out loud at the dynamics between Paul Senior and his sons!
We both think that Mikey is Paul Sr.'s favorite despite lacking any direction or fabrication talent. Paul Jr is truly amazing at the skills he has in building bikes, but we both think lately he has developed a bit of an ego. Paul Sr, makes the show! I think we have all known someone in our lives who roars like a lion but is really just a lot of talk when you come right down to it.
I don't ride, probably never will, but I have to admit, this is a great show!
BigBo 01-13-2004, 09:19 AM I try to catch the show periodically. I don't currently have a ride, but have had several throughout the years and also built two of my own from scratch. Not the type of High $$ choppers they build. More what would be considered "Old School". Last one I built came out pretty sweet though. Paugo rigid frame, 1980 Shovelhead bored to 103 c.i., open primary belt drive, FX Wide Glide front end raked out a bit. This bike would beat most of the guys with the $30,000 customs. And guess who's bike they all milled around when at bars or gatherings? Yup. Too many of the high end customs and they start to all get a little whitewashed like a stock bike. I think you'll see a return to a somewhat more traditional "Old School" chopper look soon.
I think that "Trim Spa" bike that Paul Jr. put together was the best looking bike he's made so far.
Good show though.
Goose 01-13-2004, 09:29 AM Never had any interest for bikes but my wife & I enjoy this show. Father & sons put on a beleivable act at times;) Other then the fire bike, I think the spider bike is bad a$$. The fire bike is just plain:eek: SICK
Discovery's the bestest:)
mikecc 01-13-2004, 09:56 AM :btu: I love that show.
There is a new show called American Hot Rod coming out. wonder who that was based on.
likwid 01-13-2004, 09:57 AM While they're good builders, I think they lack origionality in the frame/fender/tank department.
There's only so many ways you can dress up the same thing.
But hey, they got their own TV show so they must be doing something right...
BigFish 01-13-2004, 10:20 AM American Hot Rod I believe is starring custom car builder Boyd Coddington! They aired a few episodes earlier last fall, and it was ok! If it is the same show, it is Boyd Coddington!
missing link 01-13-2004, 11:04 AM I love the show...:D
Jr Link
Krispy 01-13-2004, 11:51 AM Great show, I watch every week
Crafty Angler 01-13-2004, 12:01 PM The show is excellent, I've seen each episode probably a half dozen times by now -
Paul Sr. reminds me a LOT of a guy I used to work for.
Paul Jr is gettin' a little full of himself lately but he's a relatively young guy and I'm sure the whole thing is a heady experience for him. An old chef I used to work with used to say he could take temperment as long as there was talent to go with it.
Yeah, it's enjoyable reality TV unlike the other C-R-A-P that's on, pretty much real guy TV.
chris L 01-13-2004, 12:04 PM good show !!!
beachwalker 01-13-2004, 01:17 PM I think that show is awesome. Yes they are being funded to do the things they do but they produce some incredible works of art and big Paulie has a heart of gold.
The santa bike, the fire bike, the POW bike. It's just plain awesome !
Makes the Jesse James guy look like a real prima donna.......
I admit it....we watch the show religiously ever monday nite...I love it!
chris L 01-13-2004, 01:26 PM jenn thats cause your a biker chick race fan .
BIKER CHICK???? no I dont own a bike (just the kind for snow with skis and a track)..race fan yeah;)
chris you so funny... :laughs:
FishermanTim 01-13-2004, 02:40 PM We watch "American Chopper: The Series"
Although we call father & son "Captain Complainer & Whiney Boy"
They do make some awesome machines.
TheRattBoy 01-13-2004, 06:06 PM I watch it every week, don't care too much for jr's ego but they do make nice bikes, I loved the spyider bike.
I also enjoy watching the bike build off's they have , Indian Larry makes the best bikes and my favorite style, old school choppers.
:) johnny "the Ratt Boy"
Karl F 01-13-2004, 08:16 PM Indian Larry is the guy they should have on, builds better bikes.
Did you see the build off show when he signed the kids autograph and gave him a great bit off advise... "Don't lie, there's too much to remember".
Big Paul seems to be doing more building this year, maybe take some of the wind out of Jr.'s sails, or Jr. is enjoying his trophy girlfriend and new car
They are good but, Jesse is more of a ground up builder, and Indian Larrry is the man, old school wise.
I think the show is great. I've owned a few over the years but nothing like they build.
TheRattBoy 01-13-2004, 09:44 PM Karl, Have you seen Billy Lane too?, he seems to be a young version of Indian Larry, uses a lot of "scraps" to make his bikes(old school) if he'd stop hitting the bars he'd be even better. johnny "tRB"
Karl F 01-13-2004, 09:50 PM Yeah!
Party guy for sure, but he builds some nice new wave stuff, loved the build off between him and Indian Larry, Larry wins, but he tells the guy, NOPE, we are cutting this trophy in half!
Billy likes the juice, but even hung over, he's better than most!
TheRattBoy 01-13-2004, 09:56 PM Even better , when Billy's bike wouldn't run and Larry spent the day helping him out with it, shows that Larry is a great guy as well as builder. johnny
Karl F 01-13-2004, 09:58 PM :D
Karl F 01-14-2004, 04:29 PM http://www.indianlarry.com/extra/ratfink1a.html
TheRattBoy 01-14-2004, 05:48 PM Sweet  , just a little bit of chrome on that baby:D , love the springer style front end too. johnny
beachwalker 01-14-2004, 06:29 PM yea Karl,
that Indian Larry is\awesome, too. He is old style and true.
Interesting character as well.......:)
Bawana 01-14-2004, 07:33 PM The old man Paul does nothing but bitch--Talk about a law suit for a hostile work enviorment-- Paul JR is a really good welder but the designs I guess I just dont get it.Lot of nice partsThe younger kid musta got dropped on his squash when he was little. All they do is call vendors and complain that they need it last week when the ordered it 2 hrs ago if they remembered to order it at all.The Guy that works with Paul Jr must be the brains of the operation and ready for sainthood for dealing with Americas most disfunctional chopper shop.He seems to do most of the assemby work and wiring. They farm out everything and only design and assemble. That Trim Spa bike cost the guy 150 grand but got wrote off on his taxes as for business advertisment.THIS IS REALITY???????At least I saw Jessie build a bike he jumps on it and rides a couple thousand miles not around the block and into a trailer to take it to show so some boob with more money than he knows what to do with can buy.How about these idiots riding around Daytona beach in a parade of unregistered uninsured lunecy. How about the cop letting them go??I thought i was gonna get shot at Laconia for passing a cop on the right at a stop light.I also like the old man firing up the yard to kill the bees.Be great at a barbecue I guess. Now kids dont play with fire let daddy do it.unfriggingbelievable.But its good for a laugh
Paul SR. is a lot like my Dad Roar of a lion with a heart of a lamb. ThomT
beachwalker 01-15-2004, 05:06 PM OCC guys are good. It'd a friggin TV show for christ sake.
Jesse is good but more of an egomaniac ass than Paul Sr. (I can see it now. All the pro Jesse/Indian fans are getting angry now :laughs: )
Glad some of us, i.e. Bawana for example, have it ALL figured out :laughs:
Gloucester2 01-19-2004, 04:38 PM I got a little scared when Billy Lane takes a swig of Coronna then fires up the air tools
on in 1/2 hr!!
bawana...funny how you mentioned vinny (the guy who works with jr.) sometimes his "tolerance" makes me laugh the most!
Backbeach Jake 01-19-2004, 10:45 PM In the early 70's , I bought a 48 panhead all original right down to the leather saddle bags for 400 bucks. After working that fine machine over with a torch, air chisel , and grinder, I had a state of the art chopper. 24" over springer, 21 inch front wheel, and all the other crap that totally ruined a beautiful ride. I HATE those friggin' chopper shows!!!!!:af: :af:
RIROCKHOUND 01-20-2004, 12:08 PM Last night episode...
I missed the begining of the POW/MIA bike episode 1, did Paul serve? or just in it for the cause? I know the guy working w/ him (doing most of it) lost an uncle...
BTW, anyone else who is a gym rat, Paul sr was popping 405 for bench at 54, I know he's a a big guy, but at my best I could barly pop into the lower 300 range... that guy is a house, I dont think I'd want to meet him on a dark alley....
I think that they play up all the BS alot more than they have too... because most of their bikes look the same...
BTW am I the only one who thinks they need a monster boat show like monster house? I'll buy a 1965 31 Betram and let em re do it for me lol
Bawana 01-20-2004, 01:17 PM 400.00 for an old pan(61 or 74 CI??)wasn*t 48 the first year for pan? OH yaa remember those days even knew of 200.00 deals.Looked like crap but they still ran.Now a basket or crapper is about 6/7 grand. Alot of them got turned into nice bikes.Never had over 15 inch springer with 3/4 inch rake(old BSA lightningwith rigid frame) but saw a lot of bikes that had a two block turn radius. 24 inch springer what did that have 1 and 1/2 inch of rake?that must pogo*d like crazy. Took my drive test for bike liscence on a 68 rigid frame sporty with 8 over front end back in the 70*s.The old registry inspector just shook his head and said "OH god I hope it has an exhaust system on it." ---------"Why yes sir has a new Alphabet twice pipe setup garanteed to be quieter than stock".Poor guy on the Kawaisake 400 next to me said he couldnt even hear his bike running but I passed. The old Green thumb registry in Plymouth MA on 3A.I*ll bet you wish you still had it as a stock bike!!!!
