View Full Version : 1088? scarecrow 01-13-2004, 11:14 AM Can anyone tell me the rod and grip spacing for a 1088. I have two of them to build. Thanks in advance.:) Bawana 01-13-2004, 02:20 PM Need more info before offering humble suggestions.I*ve done some of P/B 1088*s as both conventional and spinning.which is it that you are looking for? What kind of guides are you going to use or do you just want for grips and seat? This would depend on your arm length if rod is for you or length of arm for whomever is going to use.OR do you just want a general idea?? Goose 01-13-2004, 04:05 PM I like the butt to be 18" to the bottem of the reel seat and 28" to the first guide. Not as critical as a 10'. Forgrips, place your hand 1" away from the top of the seat and mark another inch top of the hand ...don't forget to add 1" to wrap over tape. You get the idea....what ever ya like. scarecrow 01-13-2004, 09:17 PM Was kind of in a rush before i left school. Its gonna be spinning and I will use wire framed guides. mikecc 01-13-2004, 09:53 PM [I will use wire framed guides. :yak6: I understand you wanting the rod to be lite buy Don't spend a lot of time on the wraps. You will be changing the guides each year. as far as the spacing I like 22" to the Center of the seat. 28-30" from the reel to first guide . Then it comes down to the size of reel and type , size & # of guides you are going to use tlapinski 01-14-2004, 08:34 AM scarecrow, why wire? i only put them on glass rods for the vintage look. i have my 1088 spinner set up with high frame hardaloys, SIC tip. i can get you a starting point from what i have, but i'll have to wait and measure the rod tonight. also, why two spinner 1088's? i can see a spinner and a conventinal, but not two spinners. that rod will serve you nice on the river. i am replacing mine with 1089's this year, though. scarecrow 01-14-2004, 09:34 AM Decided to use a better guide. Always liked wire frame for some reason, built a 10 footer this year with Fugi Scs this year and I loved them. toby, one of them isnt mine its my buddies. Bawana 01-14-2004, 02:34 PM Have done them with the fugi hardloys using the 50mm first guide and the pac-bay sic guides using there 40Mm first guide and with the fuji sic high frame 40hh first. The Fuji hardaloys are great and relitively cheap. The Pac-bay sics are also great and only a little more money and the fuji high frame are incredable.Pac-bay also has tich guides with cerimet inserts that also are very nice and Ive done 10 ft arra and alstar-blanks with these as conventionals. For spinning I*ve used the 40 sic double foot for the first guide and used single foot the rest of the way up the blank.Real light feel and sensitive. Also ran saftey loops around feet and back under wrap so single feet cant pull out.Probably overkill but. tlapinski 01-14-2004, 04:12 PM just found some notes in my work email. here are the fuji's i used for my 1088 as well as the two others i advised on. hardaloy 40HH-30H-25H-20M-16L and a 16 tip top. Saltheart 01-14-2004, 04:46 PM Yep , Tlapinski has a good guide set recommendation. I might put the gathering guide out 32 inches with the 40 HH. Length of butt is customized for the person using it. Its as personal as waist size and leg length on pants. everyone wears something different depending on how they like it. tlapinski 01-14-2004, 06:52 PM just a starting point, but here is what i just measured up for my PB1088. it was set up for use with a VS 200 and/or 250. measurements are going from the butt to reel seat to collector and up towards the tip. butt to center of reel seat = 24" center of seat to 1st = 35.25" 1st to 2nd = 11.75" 2nd - 3rd = 11.25" 3rd - 4th = 10" 4th - 5th = 8.75" 5th - tip = 8" Goose 01-14-2004, 07:27 PM I made mine keeping it lite possible.... 40 & 30 HH, the rest where single footed used A thread on the double foots I only did under wraps under feet:rolleyes: No butt wraps wraps holdin tape is 1/2" I feel everything and I luv it! tlapinski 01-14-2004, 07:31 PM did you run into any problems with the single foot guides? mine lasted less than half a season on the 1208 i built before they had to come off. i used nice SIC singles and thought it would last..... :smash: Goose 01-14-2004, 07:36 PM I didn't have any problem under normal use. I don't baby my chit. 1208 Allstar?....I think that blank is a bit stiff for those type guides, you think? scarecrow 01-14-2004, 07:52 PM That helped allot See ya at the dinner. vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2025, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
