I think all the info says it should happen around the islands. Don't get me wrong I would love to see a 70 pound fish cought in Boston Harbah.

Out of the listed choices, and to be more specific and biased, Squibby-MV. There are a few other locations omitted that have as good a shot as any such as Plum Gut and Montauk .

Well it will not come from the Ditch! Most likely the outer beaches or the Islands and probably not from the surf.

There's probably a good chance it'll come from the back of Iron Mike's Jeep.

It'll be too big for the cooler mounted up front.

Out of the places listed here - it would come on a line from Cutty/Squibby to Block to Montauk and the Forks. Where will the next record come from? Possibly off NC or VA and don't forget some of those sweetwater stripers have also pushed over 60 pounds where their only predator is man

It will be on my boat if the fish gods answer my prayers and hard work cought with a niner rig so it wont count but who cares so long as I get to reel her in. I will be able to see Cuttyhunk but I will not be near her shores. Anyone want to join me????????

:wavey: just say the word bro :D

GB, how about those rigs Charlie was showing that he makes? :) those look a little smaller and give the fish a chance to fight a little more.

Mr.Sandman must have a very LARGE live well.

Somewhere between the island and the eastern tip of LI. If not there the NC/VA area.

I said it here first. I have found a spot around Block Island that produced big fish during a certain summer event for the last 2 years. One time I saw a huge white bass breach it had a small harpon stuck into it side and was pulling 2 barrels. I swore it looked at me and smirked before it charged the boat. I took off for Point Judith. Live to fish another day.

Unfortunately :( It will probably come out of someone's net...and all we'll have left are the dreams of us catching it...(while we cuss the comm. guys again)...As far as the area....I'd say not far off Montauk.

Mr. Sandman
01-15-2004, 09:25 AM
Actually I think most of the biggest fish have come near the area around the race/gut/montauk but that does not mean the next real big one will come from there.

I would like to see the next record bass come back to New England, prefably cuttyhunk...IMO where it belongs. No offense to NJ but the last place I would want to fish is atlantic city.

I dunno, all kidding aside, I'd have to say somewhere in the Block Island Triangle (Montauk>Cuttyhunk>BI) - there's already been 2 70's taken in that area historically that I can think of right off the top of my head.

Cutty is a strong contender - hey, GB, you're gonna need a bigger boat! :laughs:

Krispy
01-15-2004, 10:03 AM
and theres a 70# out of New Haven CT too. But I doubt the next ones coming from there :smash:

I'ld luv to see a s-b site member get one, shore or boat.

I think to put the odds in your favor ya gotta target big fish. Sacrifice getting skunked for having been able to fish deeper moving water and keep it on the bottem. Alot of guys don't like throwin bait especialy chunks, eels is fine, if its alive its ok but I don't want to ruin my rep with chunks...lol I'm not talkin bout sitting with lantern and two rods out and six pack. When you see a big guy at a buffet he ain't eatin salad. Large mouth & striped bass or any bass for that matter will eat any thing they can fit down there throat. Some hunters shoot doe's others scout and shoot big bucks.....mmmmmm

Put your time in, fish where they live and think positve.

I'm definately going to need help pulling her aboard, hopefully I'll have a SB member to give me a hand:). I can dream can't I.

There's another good question - who's it gonna be.

Iron Mike's gotta be a strong contender - he's got a 63 from Cuttyhunk and a 60 out of Newport.

Actually, GB could also be in the running, being a Cuttyhunkite (or whatever Cutty people are called). Hopefully, he'll do it fishing from shore.

It'd be a shame if it happened while he was in his boat and have it not count.

I really thought for sure this year the World Rod & Reel record was going to be broken, based upon the progressive increase in size and population that I have personally noitced over the past few years. I was disappointed that it was not, yet also relieved, cause that means I still have a shot at being the lucky one. I figure it is gonna be a big ol fat spawner in the spring loaded with eggs that is gonna do it, not really sure where, probably south .
As to who catches it, I bet that it is some yahoo that went into Walfart and bought one of them $20 white rods that comes with a reel and line already on it chunkin with a rancid old piece of rotten bait that catches it. It always seems that the people with the nice equipement and experiecne get "beat" by the beginners luck.

Why don't you think it would come from Cape Cod Bay, like
Scorton Ledge or someplace like that? Big fish live in Cape Cod Bay.

I think Cuttyhunk would also be the place
