NG is that a frame with mesh in the picture? Are you using that to do your scale pattern? If so, do you find it easier than using the closepin method?

Thanks

Chris

have you test swam the gibbs?

I haven't tested the gibbs yet, but if it swims like the bottle -darter I got from Tony it will be great. The one he made swims the nutz and this plug is very close in size and shape now.

Hot work Newly! I had a Gibbs bottle dig on too many rocks at Montauk and busted up the lip so bad it wouldn't swim anymore. )best bottle I had!) decided to have at it before I actually started making my own plugs. This is what it ended up like. The Gibbs is there for ref. I made the lip and swam it (not too good) then tried it without the lip. Makes a hot little darter! I placed the lip back in w/o epoxy just so I know where I left it for another plug someday~

The lower lip on this one was all chipped up too and didn't swim right so an operation was in order. Little belt sander action and better than new. Worst part is that I have 2 more that are fairly new and I am eyeing them up for modification..........

Very Nice work Dave!

Why the name injured alewife?

Thanks for sharing,
Mike

That is my version (colorwise) of an alewife, and as far as injured goes look at lip placement. The plug will run with a look of a dying baitfish ( on its side) Builders used to call it an injured minnow.

Newelly that didn't take u long.Did u re weight it or just use the weight that was in it.i found that on the 3 oz gibbs they pour the lead in It goes through the plug?? so I drill it out an place it in the bottom in two spots small forward an a slug in the butt.next time leave more lip.i know once u start sanding its tough to make staight.I would like to know how that Injured Alwife plug catches.could start a whole new trend in lure design side swipers for stripers or somethin like that.I know they don't waste much time with buckies that are flounderin on there sides like that.

The Gibbs had 2 1/2 oz slugs, one behind the rear hook and one in front of rear hook (between the 2 hooks) . I left it as is. Tony PM me your address and I'll send you an injured herring, seeing as you guys get the fish long before we do.

Surfster..great darter modification on gibbs bottle,,great idea ,, I'm loving this bottle darter thing ..Newelly I was looking for the old Creek Chub injured minnow ..The plug with the lower lip set is the injured plug your talking about ? Was that a knockoff of older factory plug or street plug..

Well swam the Bottle Darter down at the Ditch today. Had to go to the fish peir as the rest of the Ditch was ice locked. Too much lead in the arse end. Removed rear slug and only used 2 hooks (4/0) and she swims good now.

If it wouldn't stay down U took to much off the front lip.I hate to take the lead out of the ass on a bottle. They always get the most use by me when the wind is in my face.try makin the front lead more forward then try with the tail weight again.I think thats the 3 oz. one as the 2 oz.ers have only one belly hook.

Yes it is the 3oz one. By taking 1 slug out it seemed to help. Dropping down to only 2 hooks seemed to help too.
