Opions on these please---- Ive never done any of them and want to know what they are like in everything from 7ft up to 11 ft.how do they cast --how they compare to others like AllStar-- Lami--St croix-- etc-----I think I saw some of these and they seemed to be heavier as far as weight kind of like the bigger pac- bay blanks but I am not sure of this. some of the pac-bays seem like the wall thickness is kinda big at the butt---How do they hold up with age---Do you find these to be over or under rated by the manufacturers specs---- how about 1 or 2 piece also anybody have a favorite or one they found that they really liked or more importantly didnt like and for what reasons???/ also how are the AM-tack blanks doing.

For the money both Batson and Amtak are are excellent blanks. I did much of my fishing with the 1088 throwing medium eels and 2oz plugs...like it alot. I also wraped a Amtak 70MH (1-4)ozlast year. I use it as a inshore bottem fish rod, a 6500 abu makes this graphite rod even lighter, I'm doing a second rod like this one now. M&D's has a good selection of both. There has been alot of talk of Batsons, most of wich is positive.

no...your not the only one to buy those blanks from Mike..:D

The Amtak and Batson blanks are very much like the Allstar blanks. Allstar actually makes those blanks for Amtak, and used to make the Batson blanks until about two years ago. The Batson line is becoming very popular here in the Northeast, and the Patriot line shouldn't be far behind. Not to mention you just got to love the price points.. :)

Actions on these blanks are fast to very fast. Not at all like the softer Lami actions. If you like the Allstar 108 and 120 lines, you'll love these also. As far as the manufacturers ratings, the blanks I have are right on the mark. Upper end of the rating anyway. Drop and oz off the top and thats right about in the sweet spot.

Side by side, its tuff to tell the difference between the Amtak and Batson blanks. (other than the color differences)
Own the 1209 and 1208 in both, and they seem identical.

Good luck..and happy wrapping

built a few 1088's and i am working on some 1089's right now. great value, but i did manage to snap the 1088's in half on casts last spring. clean break, almost in the same spot on both. both broke on casts, one on a 3.5 ounce pencil popper and the other was on a loaded bomber.

I've got a batson 1087 (thanks mike!). I've yet to build it and I actually had no intentions of buying it, but at that price I couldn't say no. Anyway---I've heard great things about them---actually not one negative and that is surprising given the grumpy nature of some fishermen. I'll have much more when I finish it or start it for that matter :D

I've also built a patriot 1209. I fished it last season jigging the canal. I was very happy with the way it performed. It throws up to 5oz. very well, but it is just a tad to soft in the tip IMHO for my liking. I think it would be a great rod to toss rubber up to 4oz and that is what I'm going to use it for.

It is my understanding that the patriot lines are made for AMTAK by all-star. If you can afford the cost I think everyone will agree the all-stars are better.

I've got a 1209 all star blank I'm working on. It's an awesome blank. If you're looking for a ditch stick you're search is over. The walls of the rod are thicker than the patriot.

Sorry for the rambling post!

Good luck and Tightlines,

Stroth
