JohnR 05-26-2001, 12:58 PM :'(
Patrick,
A veteran, one that has not even served in wartime, deserves to be called a veteran. For starters, you and I have not served in the armed forces so we should be even more supportive in their efforts as they have sacrificed, at least a portion of their lives which they'll never get back, in order that people like me can go out and wet a line and raise a child or for people like you can wonder around without a concept of reality. Having been around the military some, I can appreciate that it's not all nature walks, campfires, and roasted marshmallows for these guys. The Navy spends time in third world ports when they are not locked up with several hundred or thousand others in an aluminum bathtub with out having their feet on terra-firma for months at a time. The guys in the Army? South America, Korea, the Inter-German border up until 89 - not exactly tropical Paradise. The Marines - you think twenty guys in a VW bug is tough. How about Beruit? No, your too young to remember that - or to care apparently. Air force? Well - they're pretty much pampered but they have peacetime training accidents too and lose people. Gee - easy time for them, right? No sense confusing them with real veterans. Oh, did I mention that many of them will make less money than you when you're flying the fry machine at McD's? Trying to start families on lousy pay and food stamps? Get a life Patrick.
Veterans of war? Gulf war or not - when the chance to have a missle rain down on your foxhole (yeh , they still dig those you know) people training artiliery on you or just plain shooting back. The potenital for bad things to happen is very real - Laser guided capability or not.
Do not disrespect those that have served, whether under fire or not as you do not have ANY right, even remotely, to critisize those men and women. None. Zero. End of story.
You spend so much time over analyzing events and ideals in your twisted unexperienced mind that you are constantly talking out of your ass and don't even notice it. You just happen to know everything about everything in the advanced intellectual state that you've grown into. You know - when I was your age I thought I had my thumb on the pulse of reality. I eventualy learned that I barely had a clue and I was far more mentally developed at 13 then than you are now. Grow up.
BTW - that's strike two. One more and you're out.
Clammer - thanks for the flag this morning. That means something to me but unfortunately, not everyone here.
Clammer & Ed - had a great time last night too. And sadly, Ed pulled his feet out of the fire of humiliation at the last moment :P so we can't razz him about it. Maybe later but I'm a little tweaked at the moment...
Dad of Squid Kid 05-26-2001, 01:10 PM John.....Very well said!!!!!!!!!!Read Patricks post earlier and couldnt believe it....
Hey Patrick...two strikes ,last of the nineth, last batter up and Pedros pitching...Watch it...
Everyone have a great Memorial Day Weekend!!
Patrick 05-26-2001, 02:22 PM ....
Roccus 05-26-2001, 02:59 PM <<Why? Because I voiced my opinion? I wasn't knocking anyone for being in the army. I feel both veterans of the Gulf War and previous wars demand respect that they deserve but I feel as though they are on two different levels.>>
Patrick, you seem to have a history of voicing strong opinions based on an appalling lack of experience, knowledge or understanding of the things you speak about. As an example, you mention the WWI veterans lining their foxholes & clutching M1 rifles. The thing is, M1s weren't invented yet for WWI, they came later. You obviously have no concept of what the military is all about, regardless of how many members of your family served. So for you to babble on about what you think the definition of a veteran ought to be is an insult to everyone who has served regardless of what period of time it may have been.
<<You won't have to give me another chance. I'm out of here. I really thought this message board was different. I thought this was a place where guys can voice their opinions. I guess I was wrong. I really liked this place too but it's pretty clear that anytime you personally disagree with my opinion, I'm going to be threatened, even if I didn't break the Terms of Service.>>
And these remarks are the kinds of thing that spill from the mouth of a spoiled, entitled, thoughtless brat, a young person who has a serious amount of growing up to do. We learn from our mistakes, Patrick...but first we have to acknowledge and own responsibility for making those mistakes. You apparently have not yet begun the journey to adulthood. Perhaps, one of these years you may decide to stop making excuses, stop plagiarizing the experiences of others, stop pretending to be an authority based on what you've heard/read by others and begin that lifelong, often painful, but ultimately rewarding, journey. That's growth, Patrick, human growth and it's a process that all of us enter if we are to ever grow into adulthood. Otherwise, you will never begin to understand who you really are and that would be a waste. I recommend you re-read Salinger's Catcher in the Rye, or, if you've never read it yet, do so.
Good luck,
chris L 05-26-2001, 04:12 PM john well said . I was so mad before when I read that post . all of us veteran monkees thank you .
patrick let your father read your post , if he doesnt smack you in the back of the head id be surprised !
at the age of 18 years old I watched when one of my fellow tankers got caught between the front slopes of 2 tanks . tell his parents hes not a veteran or the veteran that was killed by the baader mainhof gang ( terrorists ) for his military ID to gain access to our post to blow up the post office and killing 2 more of those nonveteran monkees you spoke of . I spent 3 years on the east/west german border ive never been shot at while in the military ( twice out of the military). but ive seen alot and done alot . I dont see what i did as any thing special other than to stand up and be counted . thats what all military personel have in common . we was there if we were needed luckily for us we werent needed . there is nothing glamorous about war . Ill bet those that went would rather if they didnt have too .maybe you should stand up and .... oh never mind you wouldnt be able to handle the first week . memorial day is a day to honor those that died for our country during time of war or not . its not the boy scouts believe me .
and now you are going to run away instead of standing up for what you say . run you lttle spoiled rotten little #@&^%*^)$$@#$* . now go show your father I want to hear the smack in your head . I feel better now .
john marshmellows? we didnt get to have fires hence i guess thats why no marshmellows . I should have had that in my contract with the monkee keeper . ;)
gusto 05-26-2001, 04:47 PM Like I have said many a time, PATRICK IS A LOSER!!!!
Got Stripers 05-26-2001, 05:27 PM Why is he posting?
Slipknot 05-26-2001, 07:18 PM Thank you John, I hope you have a good weekend as well. I'll be replacing a dishwasher (after the tile I had to set this A.M. sets) tonight I will rest from an afternoon with my family at a nephews bithday party, turned out nice , even went swimming. My other brother ( a veteran by the way 4years Korea) wasn't able to make it, maybe I'll see him Monday. I have to work tommorow, and Mon. I might fish.
Happy birthday Dad of Squid Kid!
And thank you John,I won't add any namecalling but I will say no one should have to try to explain why Patricks posts are over the line. This is a fishing website, John puts up with the rantings of your latest crazy idea and other things that have nothing to do with fishing. Opinion is one thing, yours are off the wall sometimes. Everyone makes mistakes, do you learn from yours? I don't think I would've reached 40 years if I hadn't learned from mine. Ahhhhh why do I bother....
Patrick 05-26-2001, 09:46 PM First off, I would like to thank Gusto for such a great post with the wit and intelligence of a retarded dog.
And you were exactly right, the M1 was invented in 1940's for WWII, my mistake. For some reason, I thought it was for WWI.
Now clarifying what I said earlier...
I didn't mean that the soldiers of Desert Storm weren't to be honored or anything like that. What I MEANT was comparing them to the likes of soldiers of WWI, WWII, Korea, Nam is like comparing apples and oranges. I don't mean any disrespect to the Gulf War people fighters. The face of war has changed. No longer is it about men standing in lines to shoot muskets, but High Tech fighter jets soaring around shooting missiles with remote controls. I'm not saying one is better than the other but we should memorialize them as two seperate quantities.
Now my dad was in the Navy during Vietnam. He didn't serve in the war. His boat had a malfunction which prevented him actually serving. I still honor him but in a different way than say an a-team member hacking through the jungle. Each deserves respect but in a different way.
Chris, my father honestly wouldn't care. He might not agree with my opinion but he would be proud that I am my own person with my own views. If I had the same views as my parents, there would be no change in the world.
The saddest part of this whole thread is you guys act like I'm over throwing the government. I am perhaps the most patriotic person around. I'm proud to live in this country and I would protect it under certain causes. It's against my nature to kill but I would under some circumstances. Anyways, I am the guy that is always putting his money in the cups. I'm America...

Who's comparing them? besides you?
That's your opinion, But as a whole country all veterans are memorialized on Memorial Day. There isn't going to be another Memorial Day for post Vietnam veterans. O.K.?
So go to college and get a law degree, maybe that can occupy your time.
JohnR 05-27-2001, 08:36 AM I noticed you removed one of your earlier replies but I want to say one thing about your conduct here but didn't get a chance last night. I was watching a movie and playing with my kid instead.
A WHOLE BUNCH of people told me I was being overly trusting that you would behave when they noticed you were hanging around this site. They were convinced that sooner or later you would go off half-cocked here as you had just about everywhere else. I responded by saying both privately and publicly here on the board, that you were handling yourself positively and in much more grown up manner than you had most everywhere else. Some people that have known you for a few years watched and were impressed when others put their hand in front of your nose and that you didn't bite. Last summer and fall were almost promising times for you and a lot of people, including myself, thought you actualy had turned the corner.
Get back to how you were last summer, an inquisitive kid discovering some new facets of fishing with a positive attitude and being genuinly friendly. Not the know-it-all done-it-all even though you never really did mouth. Please, go back to that relaxed kid from last year - I think you'll be happier too.
You disrespected a lot of people, their parents and grandparents with your comments yesterday. People that have given much for you and me. You should apologize to them.
BTW - you're not America and you are not the most patriotic person around. I can honestly state that I'm proud to be an American, love of country and such but there are several steps that I haven't taken - such as service, that sacrifice of time. You haven't done that either but then you disrespect and call yourself patriotic.
You're young enough. Enlist in the Army. Get 4 years of busting your ass under your belt. Get skilled and achieve some discipline... You will probably better yourself as a person if you did a hitch in the service.
nightfighter 05-27-2001, 09:11 AM I can't believe I just read this whole thread on this site, which was dominated by the Patrick's off base comments. Don't need to bang my drum here. If I had a mute button, I would use it, as Patrick's comments are clearly reducing the enjoyment I received from this site.
LINESIDES 05-27-2001, 09:51 AM I am personally glad I missed all of the comments Patrick made, I take things way to serious in life.
But I have a very special place in my heart for the folks who serve our Country, whether they make the "ULTIMATE SACRIFICE" or not.
They all play a part in keeping our nation "FREE".
It enables us to keep doing what we want to do in life.
Patrick 05-27-2001, 12:25 PM Well I apologize. Shouldn't have made those comments. My little lady has been really sick lately. High white blood count, aches in the bones, stomach upset. I thought for sure it was leukemia or at least lyme disease. They did a spinal tap for meningitis but that came back negative. I have probably slept 5 hours in the 5 days before and I've been in a rather pissy mood.
Anyways, they took blood and looked at her cells. It looks as though she doesn't have cancer or lyme disease thank god. Just a strong case of salmonella.
That isn't really an excuse for my behavior but it is an explanation. The mind usually doesn't run at full steam and this just complicated matters.
I apologize for the comments that I made. I appreciate the job that the brave soldiers do even though I don't agree with the reasons why, necessarily.
Please forgive me.
gusto 05-27-2001, 01:49 PM Patrick, leave like you said you would. No one wants you here. You obviously have no life. Jyst leave and get the hell out of here. Go find antoher group of people who will accept you. I guarantee that will be hard to find, but give it a shot. As you can tell, no one here cares for you. Do you ever go fishing?
you never post subjects reagrding fishing, its always other stupid stuff like this. I think you just want to feel accepted, but it ain't workin. Get a life please.
Patrick 05-27-2001, 02:37 PM You know, it's rather funny. Look up and down the board. Who is the man with all the replies? It's me. Granted some of them aren't nice but I think a lot of them are meant to be funny, not mean. The more people say I can't do something, like building a boat, the more I want to do it. The boat building will begin soon.
Now I might not have a life. You might be right. But whatever shell of a life I have, I enjoy it. One thing my parents have taught me is to be greatful for everything you get. It's not your life. I'm not asking you to live it. I have my good health, a great family, a great companion and I live my life how I want to live it. Even if I was the most popular person in the world, the life of the party, I wouldn't give up those previous things. Looks like I live a great life.
You know, I was thinking about leaving but I said to myself, "I am depriving these people of my great presence. I OWE it to them to hang around." ;D. So I think I will hang out here a little more. Just for you Gusto. We are gonna be best friends.
This is what I suggest, whenever you log into Striped-bass.com and you see my name next to a title, don't read it. When you read a post and you see my name, don't read my post. Also, you want to talk about immaturity, why don't you stop the name calling? Way to be a hypocrite.
As for fishing, we don't have any fish around now. Not in my areas. The only bait we have had around are small sandeels about an inch long. I'm not interested in those little fish chasing them.
Patrick is back now. Everyone enjoy. So Gusto, wanna go fishing with me?
JohnR 05-27-2001, 05:15 PM Patrick - I don't want you to leave, I would like you to be resonable and respectful of others on the boards here. Just because someone you know is sick, even potentialy serious (and fortunately not by what you're saying) is not an excuse for being disrespectful of others. This is also a fishing board, primarily for stripers - keep that in mind...
Gusto - you only seem to come out these days on a Patrick thread - keep it to fishing too...
chris L 05-28-2001, 08:13 AM well im glad to see you sticking around patrick . you made the post now deal with it , its part of growing up . when you say something good or bad you have to be man enough to tough out the disagreements and the critisism . nwo I hope you realize people arent out to give you a bad name ( you do that on your own ) . I have to do it too cause I say alot people dont agree with . right now my fishing buddy is mad cause I disagreed with him on a subject in his life ( hes not happy ) but I said what I said and have to live with a friend thats not to happy with my point of veiw ( but its my point ). Im rude and crude and have had to deal with that all my life . but people know when I say something thats how I feel you get more respect . Ok enough already dont leave , stay and show people your man enough to deal with what you say even if it gets the whole fishing community bent out of shape . sometimes its all we have . at least be true to yourself and dont post garbage just to get attention .
