I just got off the phone with #^&#^&#^&#^& from moore's lures..he said he needs atleast 5 surfster lips to get a mold an stamp out...now the thing is we need to know how many people here an at other sites would like to buy them an how many lips they may want..it takes alot of $$ to make these[stamps] these days...if there's enough interest in them, he'll go ahead an have them made. talk to your bud's, spread the word....we need to know. he's looking for number's.....

ps. these will be made of heavy guage sst.

If they are the same as the CCB ones; size and thickness, I'd be good for 100.

MAC

As long as the lips are an exact copy; size ,guage, weight. I don't care who makes them. If they are too thin they are useless. The lip is where this lure gets its weight on front. The "specials" or "7400L" were also loaded in the rear.

thanks salty, but dont get too involved. Im getting that "not wanted feeling" around here. maybe cause im "joisey",or whatever. its a free country.
hope moores makes what you guys need.they are a big company, im one guy trying to make an honest living at what i love to do. I live, breathe and dream about striper fishing every single day just like you guys.
just remember i never asked for any 500 minimum order guarentee from anyone before risking my $ to make this dye.
and noone works for free as far as i know
like i said, whatever floats your boat.

Tinman, that's not it at all. I use your lips on some of my pikies and they work great. It is just that when we posted a few days ago about what guage they were going to be you said like 22 guage (?) Isn't this the same guage as your pikie2 lip? If so this is going to be too thin for the surfster lips. I would hate to see you make a few thousand in this light guage and not be able to sell them. I don't have a micrometer handy to check my surfster lip but I would bet it is probably 18 or maybe 20 guage. If you can make them same guage I would be more than happy to buy them thru you. I don't care about the mirror finish, the finish like your other lips is great.

Capesams.
IF thats truly the case then FINE.. settled.. First one that brings this to market at the right quality, at the right price, gets the sale.
If there is something else bothering you , then I hope you can at least tell me what it is. You did not repond to one of my pms for like a month, and it was important to me that the item did not get lost in the mail, i would have felt responsible. Thats what made me think there was more to this.
end of story.. im good with that...
proceed with your 500 order...
i dont want to hijack this thread..

Tinman, i guess i missed your post on surfster lips. didn't know you were going to make them. if you can make them the way people want i am sure they will sell. the talk about Moores making them has been going on longer than i have seen your name around. i think most of the people on this board have dealt with Moores and like the service and the man behind the service.curios as to what else you sell.

Thanks Newell
And I certainly appreciate that very very much. If you guys would kindly re read that post you will notice I said .032" thick,, my pikie Z lips are only .020 thick. The .032" is THE EXACT THICKNESS OF AN ORIGINAL SURFSTER LIP & plenty thick. In fact I had the stainless specially shipped from feaking california, cause i could not find it anywhere else here . At $2 a pound, and thats 500 #'s. If you guys want to see a picture of it, im sure I can arrange it. I dont want to get into #s here, but I risked this $ gladly, and my bro and i are here trying to figure out the ABSOL LOWEST price we can get these to you guys. But u know what, if moores can beat my price and quality, you SHOULD buy from him ant not me, I would do the same if i were you.

LIGHTENUP ALL OF YOU ;)

For those who don't know, the Moore's surfster lip idea has been going around for a year now, we discussed this before and I guess it's finally about to get off the ground. I didn't realize he was going to need 5 originals, I don't own any :(
I hate colorado blades and would like to buy some surfster lips.
Tinman, I'm sure there are plenty of people that will be inerested in buying them, I know Steve well enough to think that there is nothing personal. Competition is good for everyone. I bought some of your lips and think the quaulity is fine and the price seems right. I don't think your assuming there is a Joisey attitude is fair.
I wish there wasn't any bickering here, this forum is about discussing building of lures to be used to catch fish with:smash:
I'm glad you are all going to let it go and move forward, thanks :btu:

I think there is some confusion on the thickness here. Some people talk in gauge, some people in decimal. Just to clarify, here is a gauge/decimal chart:

18 - .0478
19 - .0418
20 - .0359
21 - .0329
22 - .0299
23 - .0269

What thickness do YOU guys feel the lip should be made of? The 'sample' I have is 21 gauge.

NJTackle has been very good to me and If I do buy a couple lips somewhere else, that doesnt mean you are going to loose all of my buisiness. Maybe I'll need hooks, mabe I'll need lead, maybe I'll need gromets....maybe i'll need lips of another style...

Probably coming close to breaking even at that price!Cost of quality materials, time and labor these guys put in, make that price a real bargain!

Diamond Tackle
01-22-2004, 03:12 PM
The price is set by O.P.E.C. (Organization of Plugbuilders Enterprise Coop) They meet once a year and in their infinite greed will set whatever price they feel the market will bear. We are at their mercy.

Actually I think when you consider the amount of work involved in a custom plug compared to production plugs that are approaching $16.99 retail, you are truly getting your moneys worth and then some. They should be more like $25- $30.00 each.
Plastic injection molded stuff which I know for a fact costs about .40 cents to produce overseas is the real question esp. when you shell out $14.99+ for one of them fancy yashizukimoto swimmers that don’t swim anywheres NEAR as well as wood. And wood smells great when properly trashed.

Sorry for the delay guys.
Just completed a large batch. so all orders will be out tomorrow if not already sent. I had to make an improvement on the polishing step, to remove all the little burrs and get a nice shiny finish. This Stainless is thicker than i was used to working with. I dont want to bore you with the details , but it made a big difference.

thanks

Tinman,
Any chance you could make some danny and pikie lips out of the same stainless as the surfsters??? If you did I bet you'd have some happy campers

Just Bigger... I dont know dimensions off the top, but I make some that go 9" (jointed) that need a bit more than the danny's I got from NJtackle... maybe one size up from the D-2 lip?

Danny lips 1.25" wide (even 1.375") would be :kewl: on some of the 3-4 oz swimmers I make.

Original Pikie lips size. The Moores are too big but will work on larger pikies. Capesams has some original most likely. I can measure one from the 70's but that is all I have.

I got my lips today, they look great:happy:
Now I just need to borrow a friends original surfster if someone would be kind enough to lend me one so I can make some knock-offs.

No what I meant was making your danny lips out of a thicker stainless... One rock later and the lip gets all banged up. I'd happily pay a few ¢ more for a beefier lip thats all:D

You really need to get some peepers for those pretty plugs. Salty or I can hook you up, I think hes got the larger size (6.5 mey & 7 mey WTP) eyes youre looking for.
Newell, I have samples of those same Creek Chub Pikie lips also. Not sure what i want to do with them just yet. What applications would call for strictly those lips rather than the regular pikie Z lips ? Just curious. I appreciate the info and the offer.
I working on a Larger "lefty #2" right now in .024", its almost completely done. Its made for Slant nose swimmers, but can also double as a LARGER Danny since its 1.060" wide, and I can even punch it in .032 if there is a calling for it.
Also working on a Larger traditional Danny as PAsurfer & Eben suggested as well as a larger Pikie with .032 stainless for you Giant Pikie addicts.

Tinman, I use your pikie2 lips on my 2 oz pikies and they are the perfect size. On my 2 3/4 oz and 3 1/2 oz sizes I have been using Moores lips. They are actually too big though. The CCB lip that was used on their striper pikies and giant pikies is the perfect size but not available anywhere.
