JUST PUT MY FIRST BOAT IN 2 WEEKS AGO IN WARWICK COVE AND NOW I.M READY TO DO SOME STRIPER FISHING. COULD REALLY USE SOME POINTERS i.e. where to get live herring, where to fish for stripers and how long will they be around. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Ken - This is where you are damend if you do and damned if you don't in upper Narraganset Bay. Now keep in ming that I just moved there recently and have only fished it from boat once (last Friday) but I've fished it from shore for a little while now in a few areas around Warwick.... The bigger fish are often closer to shore at night and a little deeper during the day (usually, more so as it gets hotter). The problem is that where you'll often find them is where you'll only ding your prop if your lucky. There is a lot of structure around there and that's where you'll find the fish when the currents sweep by but that same structre can be difficult to navigate and work until you really know it...
There is a herring run near the police station, Gilbert stuart in No Kingstown and a couple other smaller runs in the general area. Unfortunately - they may be about over and you really need to make an effort to keep them alive as they often die fast even with and aerated livewell... But if you can get 'em :D ...
The bass will be around throughout the summer until late October but there will be really slow periods at times when the water is real warm...
Are you new to boating or just new to the area?

JOHN,JUST READ YOUR REPLY.
YES I AM A NEW BOATER.I OWN A 24'CRUISERS CUDDY. BEEN OUT 3 TIMES SO FAR, ONCE AT NIGHT. CAME BACK IN AROUND 11:00PM THAT EVENING.I COMPLETELY WENT THROUGH THIS BOAT.
AND IT IS NOW EQUIPED WITH A GARMIN 168 SOUNDER(GPS AND FISH FINDER)BUT NOT BEING FAMILIAR WITH THE AREA I AM VERY CAUTIOUS FOR LOW LYING ARES AND TO NOT PUT MYSELF INTO SCITUATIONS WHERE MYSELF OR THE BOAT WOULD BE IN JEPARDY.I AM A CERTIFIED SCUBA DIVER AND I AM LOOKING TO REEP THE BENEFITS
OF (A) OWNING A BOAT (B)BEING A CERTIFIED SCUBA DIVER AND(C)LEARNING THE ART OF BEING A GOOD FISHERMEN.
I AM PLANING ON GOING OUT AGAIN TOMORROW NIGHT TO GIVE IT A GO. ALSO MIGHT GO FOR A DIVE AS WELL. SO ANY POINTERS WOULD BE APPRECIATED.
I HAVE MAPSOURCE INSTALLED ON MY COMPUTER SO I CAN SET MY COURSE BEFORE I LEAVE. THANK YOU FOR YOUR REPLY AND THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR ANY HELP ANYONE MIGHT GIVE.
THANKS,
KEN
