Nows the time to tie them leaders, seems to me that you can never have enough of them, right sand man? Through the year I buy a little at a time weather I need'em or not, there are times of the year when the sizes you use are hard to find. Come this time of year I have a good # to keep me busy.

I use zip-lock baggies, two leaders each bag. The baggies are cheap and keeps my tackle bag neater and they don't kink the leaders. They also keep salt off your terminal tackle. They're cheap and can also be used in many other fishy ways.

Any other ideas?

A picture or CD wallet with the many palstic sleeves in a more durable case works well too.

i do the small ziploc thing. i usually tie a dozen every time i think of it. even if i think i have enough, i always seem to run out. :confused:

I use the CD wallet, but Ill prob get a specific leader wallet with attached ziplocks this season. The cloth side of the CD gets wet and I ripped most of them with cold hands :smash:
Terminal tackle goes fast and Ive run out of stuff in the middle of the night. I already picked up snaps and swivels by the 100's this winter. Ill just leave them in the truck

I put all my leaders and rigs in small jewlery bags(tiny ziplocks) individually, then put them all in a tackle binder. If they are all individually bagged, they can't get tangled.

..if you keep looking in the "Staples" or "Office Max" sales flyers, you'll find that from time to time....they offer FREE cd wallets, which I think work great. Just like anything else, the longer you respect it, the longer it lasts....

Twist ties and ziplocks

I am a fan of the ziplock myself....and I write on the bag what kind of leader it is...

After I tie my leaders, I coil them and lay them on a piece of foil then fold the foil into a flat pouch. I use a sharpie to note the test, whether it's a Hi-Lo, an eel rig, has a teaser or whatever. Then I'll put a half dozen or so into a ziplock or slide them into the photo wallet.

Have any of you guys used Yo-Zuri Hybrid for leaders for plugging or eels? I've used 50# for leaders for tube-n-worm rigs and for cut bait rigs but I've stayed w fluoro for plugging.

It's priced much better than Seaguar flouro leader material but I don't want to save a few bucks to get skunked.

I carry a 50 yard spool of leader material in my bag, and a small Plano box with snaps and swivels in my jacket pocket.

Takes less time to tie up a new one than it does to untangle pre-tied coiled ones ;)

Plus, I can tie a knot in 50# mono without digging out my glasses. Can't say the same for 65# Whiplash, or even 20# mono.

I use a leader wallet. Hunter products use to make a water proof one that worked real well. Too bad they're discontinued. When I coil the leaders , I make sure I wrap them all the same so I don't have to battle with them in the dark.

oops with all this talk of baggies , I thought of rolling papers . nevermind oh I tie mine as I need them . sometimes Ill tie 3 then use them that night .

Last thing I wanna do standing on a rock w/ waves coming in or fish breaking is tying in little swivels/snaps n' clipping line in the dark, with my light going all over.
Just pull the leader out and one knot your done :gf:

I hear ya Krisp. Most of the time I use a alice-pack and in it is my surf bag. I can't see having everything with you all the time, to much weight. I keep on me the essentails, the rest is in back pack. I do bring extra swivels hooks and leader but thats just back up for my back up....ya never know:D

Oh rats, I thought using the CD case for leaders was my idea. Well anyway, it works for me. I can't tell by looking at them, so I write with a Sharpie on each sleeve so I know what I'm looking at when the time comes.

Ditto on the alice pack. I usually tie a dozen or so and put them in plastic baggies in the small pocket in the pack. Toss some in my pockets just in case and when I open my pack it has two elastic bands that hold a small plano box just right, I toss some tin in there and extra snaps and swivels. Always have at least two spools of flouro in the car. 50lb and 30 lb. Only ran out once this year:af: But we'd been out 14 hrs + that day so we called it a night:D

Yes the inventor of the zip-lock snack bag(the short version of the sandwich bag) should be nominated for sainthood!!!!!

Best thing for leaders I've found are the plastic tins that chewing tobacco comes in. Coiled with a twist tie the leaders lie on top of each other and do not tangle, even with hooks. They are small... they float... they snap closed securely... easily marked with a sharpie... last forever.

Right! I tie a lot in the off season...probably as many as Iron Mike!

I order the hooks, swivels and leaders in bulk and tie when ever I think about fishing in the off season.

For bass, I tie about 90% of the leaders I need for the upcoming season. When I feel a knick...it goes in the re-cycle bin and a new on is tied on. I am about 90% circle hooks (I like the Owner SSW IN-LINE Circle Hook 6/0-8/0 (about 50% of the hooks I tie)and 30% are Gamagakatsu octpus circle and the other are various gamakatsu, daiachi(sp), VMC and mustad. For plugs I do the same... I like the spro tiny HD swivles with the berkely cross lock snaps but what ever you use THIS is the time to do it.

For storage when I surfcast I use the leader wallet from the surfcaster...it is a slick velcro wallet that holds zip loc bags and fits in your wader pouch or plug bag. It holds enough for a couple nights. I refill it each trip.

For bottom fishing (mainly fluke and seabass) I like to experiment will all kinds of rigs. I read a lot of boards to find out what is the hot rig in Jersey and NY and try things like that here.
IMO the most important thing IMO is the quality of the hook. Why spend a ton of cash, take time off of work and away from your family to fish with a 3 cent cheap hook tied in a sweat shop overseas to make some geek a couple cents. TIE YOUR OWN!!! USE a Gamakatsu SHiner hook (wide gap) or a VMC wide gap or even a Mustad stainless wide gap but DON'T spend 2.99 to buy a cheap POS fluke rig !!! I bet you that it breaks or straightens on a big fluke...I learned the hard way...spend some money NOW to nail big fish in the summer. Most tackle shops don't carry good fluke hooks. Also you can buy great spinner blades, bucktail, glo-squids, spin-n-glos, silver bullets and other goodies NOW...rig them properly with FLORO and quality hooks and terminal gear...I store these in HD 4 mil zip lock bags (500 for 20 bucks). I keep a "tub" on board with enough gear to outfit a party boat.
