Has anyone ever fished either MV or Nantucket from a boat and stayed at a hotel or B&B with it's own dock? I'll try to rephrase that. Come striper season, I want to be able to fish the islands and stay over but I have no place to secure my 23' center console. It will be loaded with fishing gear so I'd prefer a place close enough where I can keep an eye on it. Within walking range. Any ideas?

23 ft =in season=drop the anchor in the lee & go to sleep:)

I agree with clammer. Plus I think you can anchor in some of the ponds. At least that's what I'm thinking of doing.

Uncle Matt,
The easiest place would be Oak Bluffs harbor and stay at the Wesley Hotel across the street. Or you could get a mooring in Edgartown harbor and stay at any number of B&B's right in town. Menemsha has a few slips, and the Menemsha Inn is right there.

During "the season" you're going to pay throug the nose, so just be aware. And you may not get a slip/mooring, so start looking now.

On the flip side, Clammer and Roger have a good idea. Pick your weekend just right and a night on the boat in Lagoon Pond, Tashmoo or Sengekontacket could be nice.

Great place to fish! I fish there all summer! I live here on the Cape so I trailer home everyday.
But in july the family likes to go camping and I go the whole month. What i am getting at is this, I bring the boat with me and the campgrounds has a parking area I leave the boat in. I take all rods and stuff out of it, but I leave all eltronics and stuff in the boat. I have never had a problem in the 7 years I been doing it.

So I don't no what kind of $$$ you have and if camping and trailering is for you but it is cheaper then hotel on island and you can be a ramps pretty easy.

Good Luck

macojoe -

Camping's right up my alley. I just bought a new boat so I could get out there around the islands and see what all the hub-bub was about. I'm a fisherman by hobby who has to work a full time job to support my sickness. But I'll just launch out of the Falmouth area and run back and forth. I would like to be able to dock it somewhere long enough to get lunch someplace on the islands during the day. And I'll anchor up at night and get some down time. Nothing pretty here. No showers etc. None of that borish crap. I'm a fisherman. Who am I out to impress?

I want to fish the derby this year and get into some of those albies and bonita though.

Matt,

If you do it enough you might want to think about one of those little camper dodger rigs for the bow. keep out any rain, dew, skeeters etc....

I agree with scottM, stay in Oak bluffs and stay at the Westley Inn, The prices aren't that bad if you plan on staying late May, or early June (spring rates). There are many many open slips that time of year, there are a-lot of cocktail boaters that think summer is only July and August.

You can always keep your boat in Oaks Bluff harbor for aproz. 20 a night. From there you can walk to several Bed and Breakfast's.

I go camping at Maple Park Wareham, about $35 per night with boat. about 20 min to ramp falmouth not to bad. Just have to be
there by 5am so you get a parking place!

Mr Sandman, not to start anything but where on the main land can you go out early am and get a bunch of nice Bass, then switch to some real nice Fluke, then to Scup, Blue Fish, Black Sea Bass, Binto, Albies all in one day??
I hate to argue with you but there is no place like the Vinyard by boat!! You are a short distance to all kinds of fish for the hard core guy who wants a cow bass to the guy taking the kids for some fun Scup fishing there is something there for all!!

The Vinyard is a wonderful area to fish!!

You are reading too many bogus reports...the island is barren of fish...save your gas and hotel expenses and fish the mainland....
:laughs:

...its a joke, in order to have it more to myself , I live on MV year round. Fishing is great boat and shore almost all season. Come...spend your money.

I don't no why but I always thought you were on the other Island :smash:
I would send everyone to the mainland to if I was you!! Must get crazy there in the summer!! i have not been to the Island for 25 years now. I keep saying we are going to take the boat there for lunch some day but never do?? I fish there just about every day in the summer and never set foot there?? Maybe this year.
