JUST finished the last of my Pikie Lips. :crying: Those 3 bodies have primer drying (freezing?) outside.
Now I want to work through my 10 Danny and 6 Danny Jr (lefty) lips. Those Jr's will go on another batch of "Chubsters" and I'm trying to think of something else other than the traditional Danny to use the large on.
Can't get PIKIE out of my mind though! I've brainwashed myself! Everytime I go to the lathe and let my mind wander I end up with a general Pikie / Surfster shape! Don't think those wide bodies would work with a Danny lip. Just not right...can't do it.
Must think outside the Pikie box..
BTW and this is cool...Been suffering through a runny nose while turning in the cold basement. Come upstairs and all done into the dry heat and within a half hour when the boogers dry up mixed with sawdust I'M BLOWIN WOOD I COULD BURN OUT MY NOSE!:eek5:

Note to self: Buy more dust masks ~

re Ebens Plugs,
If you look real close you can see the Angel HALO's around the heads of the poppers , and they are playing in the snow. Coincidence?

Surfster,
There is no known cure, and no intervention group for your addiction. You will have to just learn to live with your "habit". :D

but seriously though, make sure u use a dust mask with a good filter, its really important.

it's to bad I suuck at pic taken cause the glidda an true colors don't show...need a blue lite, but I'm not payin $35.00 for a blub that goes poof if u look at it wrong.

made some bottle darters and finished with oil and SB 112, kind of pissed SB 112 didn't perform well at all. Orange peel even though I had basement up to 72 degrees. ( wife is gonna kill me when the electric bill comes in:laughs: ) After an hour when it looked terrible I took some acetone and brushed plugs down to smooth them out. Looks a little better. Pikies and dannies were done with mirror coat and came out very nice.

BA- 3rd one down has caught me:D

I've been playing with popper weight lately too and i've come to the conclusion that a popper that just about sinks is best. if they are too bouyant, the lure wont look like a natural baitfish, instead most of the lure will sit on top of the water.... just my 10¢

I guess it's all preference but I find a popper that sinks forces you to work it faster which may be suitable in certain situations but not all. I like to have some poppers that are weighted so that the bottom half of the plug is submerged, that way I can work it slow on top (like a wounded rather than a fleeing baitfish) along a jetty or to entice lazy fish to come and get it:)

Cape Sams those are cheap acrylics that I thin with a solution of water, isopropyl and a bit of dish detergent.

Thanks Guzz, I still owe you a plug, I am slow

that's what I'm talking about. I don't think I'll find a fish to break the welding rod I use or the 4H split rings. They're rated for 95+ pounds and the swivels are rated for 90 lbs. so That's much safer. But hey I guess they worked in the old days buy they had some losses because of it.

I think some companys still use them on the cheaper stuff though.

Buyer beware I guess. Thanks for the feed back. Show us a pick when you make one of your own. Thanks

After watching the infamous "Fluke Footage" from last years night out, I wanted to make a lure that acted like an oblivious bait fish. They sink very slowly, wobbling all the way, when you pick up the rod tip they wobble up. On a "needle Slow" retrieve they wiggle from side to side, and can be made to resemble a frightened bait fish when worked erratically like a slug-go. The only problem is they are really time consuming and made of expensive mahogany. I am experimnting with other woods now.

I hope they catch something, or else they will end up hanging off my mirror or something :p

Oh... you were talking to Salty heehhe

It's even more that that, I have to make the lure from two thin pieces with the weight sandwiched in the middle. I also have to rout a groove for the through wire because there is no way I could dril that plug I don't have the skills :p and then it's 25 minutes at the sander and 3 days of blowing the mahogany dust out of my sinuses. But it is fun...
