I've been reading about the latest televised abduction, (as I'm sure there are SO many more that go un-televised).....I'm not a father, but I can't help imagine the pain a parent goes thru when they lose a child. I read about abductions all the time, I see "Missing" flyers posted at store entrances, post offices...etc... but I think I take it for granted. There are SO many abductions taking place right under our noses. It's incredible how more people/(animals) don't get caught. If you've seen the footage of the latest recorded abduction, it didn't appear to be that dark out, yet it happened almost un-noticed. How do these monsters go thru with this? How can they be so horrifically perverse? How do they go on with their lives knowing what they've done? :af:

I have a god-daughter who's 12, I can't even begin to imagine how I'd feel if something like that happened to her. :af: :af: I think because I see so many flyers, I sometimes make excuses..."oh she must have run away or something", because I just could not believe that SO many children got abducted. Around the New Year, (years back) they used to televise picture after picture of "Missing" children. This program would scroll pictures and information for hours. I don't think I gave it that much thought, even though I was younger...I think I still took it for granted. But now that I realize what really happens...it just drives me mad. God forgive me if I EVER see someone trying to abduct a child. God forgive those parents who don't "supervise" their children enough. I do ALOT of traveling(driving) with my job, and time after time...I see children, I'm talking 5yr. olds...walking the streets on their own. It SICKENS ME...:af: It makes me want to visit their house and beat that parent TO A PULP. How can you not take responsibility for your gift from God, your child...your fruit. I apologize for venting this here, but WE need to be aware of our surroundings. Maybe, we could possibly be at the right place at the right time for some unknowing child, if we just LOOK AROUND. I know I've said to myself, "that just wouldn't happen around here"......BULL$hit!!!, It can happen anywhere, anytime....and to someone YOU or I love.

Please, through-out your day, try to slow down...take a look around, don't be in a rush to get where your going. At this very moment, someone is planning to abduct, rape, and kill a child. Take the time to notice your surroundings-

If the guy they have in custody is the abductor, the police should be allowed to use whatever means necassary (including torture) to find out the location of this girl. I for one have had it with Libs portraying these perverts as the victims. String them up by their you know whats.....

Think back to when you were a kid. Let's say you were playing with friends and it was dinner time, or you were in a store and wanted something. Your parent came over to take you home for dinner, or said "no you can't have" what you wanted them to buy for you. You started throwing a tantrum, your parent grabbed you by the arm and dragged you home or out to the car, while you were crying all the way.

That's probably the perception most adults have when they see a kid they don't know being dragged by the arm by an adult.

I went over this subject with both of my kids when they were young. Instead of crying, or yelling something like "NO" or "LET ME GO", they were taught to yell "STRANGER" if someone tried to grab them.

Ted Bundy abducted his last victim, 12 year old Kim Leach, while he was wearing a badge or uniform of some sort---actually went to her school and took her out of the schoolyard. You can't even tell kids today to trust someone wearing a policeman's uniform. I told mine to never open the door to anyone, even if the person ringing or knocking said they were the police. They were told to tell them that "mommy's in the shower". A real cop would say, "OK, we'll come back later".

Most abductors are men between the ages of 25 and 40. I also taught my kids that if we were ever in a mall, or a theme park, or any large public area, and we somehow got separated, to look for a grown-up who looks like Grandma and let her get help for you.

Bloo, those creeps are extremely resourceful and it's not always the parents' fault. You drill the lessons into your kids' heads. Kids, espcially as they near their teens, refuse to live in a bubble. An 11 year old is going to want to be able to ride her bike in the neighborhood, visit friends on the next street, roller blade, play in the back yard and the parents---even good parents---can't keep her under 24/7 watch. Sprouting your wings and fledging from the nest is a natural part of growing up.

Point taken! I'm usually rather strict with my girls, especially my 14 year old, whom, as MikeP alluded, wants to get out express her independence. We need a reminder every now and again not to let our guard down. Maybe I'm more biased on this than some, but child protection really hit home when we were living less than a block away from the Kanka family back in 1994. My kids may hold it against me down the road, but I believe you can never be too cautious. Thanks for the head's up, Bloocrab.

Thats my worst fear, I can't help but think that from time to time. As I sit in the truck and wait for my kids at school and they are late for whatever reseason, that's one of the first thoughts through my head. My wife and I have educatate our three kids on those type situations since they could talk but still that does not exclude them from evil. Good point G

In the 70's I belonged to an organization called Civil Air Patrol . This org is the auxilary of the air force . I was involved in 2 search and rescues to find girls who were abducted in Ct and 5 plane crashes . Neither one of the girls were ever found and I still think about those girls and what their families went thru . I have 2 girls myself and Im in agreement with 179 but I think we need to cut them off above the knees . torture is good to find out where the girl is but then we need to take it one step further after she is found . these sick bs=assturds have to go . NO 2nd chance !

What me and my family went through with all that, I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. Even worse for her family. Time doesn't heal the pain, it only makes it easier to live with.

I work with a lady who's freinds bmw turned up in a mcdonalds parking lot in westfield and his keys in the stop and shop across the street. No ones seen him since.

She tells me about it everyday that I see her.

I worry about my kids every day, they are still small so they don't spend much time out of site of adults.

I am trying to teach them that they should never go with anyone except the short list of people they know. They can't believe that there are people who take children from thier homes. :af:

Like I said, I'm not a parent and even if I was, I don't intend on judging one....I'm sure it's a very difficult and worry-full job...and your absolutely right, at a certain age...they begin to want their independence. My god-daughter is trying to spread her wings now...and I can understand that. Hopefully, her parents have installed the necessary tactics to keep her from harm's way. I speak to her about things like this from time to time but never feel it's enough. I coudn't ever do this, but at times I've thought about testing the situation...having a friend approach her to see her reaction, but the fear of her resenting me won't let that happen. I know you can't be with them 24/7, but hearing stories like this...get's me stupid :af:...and she's just my godchild, but d@mn..I love her like my own. I just get extra heated when I see the 5yr. olds., not that there's an age on being abducted...but it's like a wounded gazelle in an open field.

Cops: Carlie Brucia Found Dead

SARASOTA, Fla. — The body of missing 11-year-old Florida girl Carlie Brucia (search) has been found, the local sheriff announced Friday morning, choking back tears.

"The body of a beautiful 11-year-old girl has been found," Sarasota County Sheriff Bill Balkwill (search) said, thanking the community for helping to find the body.

The sheriff said suspect Joseph P. Smith (search), 37, had been charged with the girl's abduction and murder.

Balkwill refused to say where Carlie was found, saying it is an active crime scene.

Smith, a mechanic, is believed to be the tattooed man in a mechanic's shirt who was seen in a car wash surveillance video leading Carlie away by the arm Sunday evening, authorities said.

He has been held without bail since Tuesday on an alleged probation violation stemming from a cocaine possession conviction.

Family and friends had kept vigil outside Carlie's ranch-style house which was decorated with banners and posters reading, "We love you, Carlie."

A reward fund of $50,000 was offered for information.

Smith has been arrested at least 13 times in Florida since 1993, according to state records and convicted of drug possession and other charges. He was arrested in 1997 in Manatee County on kidnapping and false imprisonment charges, but was acquitted a year later.

An aide to Smith's public defender, Adam Tebrugge, had declined to comment Thursday.

I saw the news cast live this morning. I can not tell you the empty feeling I have. There is not much worse in the world than lossing a young child. I can tell you that from first hand experience having lost a young son to somewhat "natural causes" (compared to Carlie's death).

Quite honestly, when I ask myself WHY I can accept and understand why our Ryan passed on...science helps that. There is no logical explanation for me, scientific or otherwise, on why this little girl had to die. I have a hard time with this.

I can't even fathom that kind of anguish. I couldn't believe how strong the mother was during the live interviews yesterday. It was almost if she had no affect. My heart and soul go out to the Brucia family. Such a tragedy for anyone to go through. Don't know how or if I would retaliate if that happened to someone in my family. I can think of what I'd try to do.
I think of my grandaughters growing up in a world of "SICKOS". One is only 10months and the other 2 1/2 years. Seems to be more around today then 20-30 years ago. maybe there were just as many but with the news media there is more exposure today

Gary - I often say hello to Ryan when I'm out solo on some rock and look up at the stars. Now that I have my own child I can appreciate the fear of something happening like what happened to Ryan and also the different circumstances that happened to this young girl and I pray and hope I never need to stand in your shoes or those of Carlie's parents.

I read about that story this morning and you look at the history of this career criminal and can't help but wonder why he's out there.

When someone chooses to live their life in that way, what is the point? When is enough enough. Drugs, weapons, assault, kidnapping... now murder.

As a father of 3, I couldn't help but put myself in that position and then asking why this guy was walking the streets.

Its kinda like the DUI thing... laws are stricter now, but there are people out there with 4 or 5 DUI's... don't we get the picture.

So when someone is arrested over and over, don't we get the picture.

And beyond the political system and how to change it... we need to change something. We all know these people. People in and out of trouble all the time. Ya know, don't be a freakin' enabler.

last month the directer of the day care my 4 year old son goes to,pulls out 3 photos of sex offenders in my area. i thanked her and really looked at these photos, just reguler faces in a crowd but monsters behind those eyes. sooooo sad the kids pay the price, give your child a hug & kiss today i know i will.

I have been employed as a police officer since I got home from the Army, now more than ten years ago and unfortunately, I think this type of crime will become more and more common. One huge reason is just the meduim we are using right now, the internet.

Whereas the guys on this site share a love of the water and the finned prizes that swim therein, others use this medium and they discover they are not alone in their warped desires.

It is my belief, not something I pulled from any text book or anything, that once these sick f***ks realize they are not alone in these desire, they become bolder and bolder and sometimes those, who in the past could resist their urges, now feel comfortable in trying something like this and crossing the line.

We probably all agree that this site is a sort of "community of commonality"; we're here because we love to fish, right? Well others find their release in very sick and terrible ways. Makes it scary being a parent...

Also, I am sure the police in Florida have a solid suspect in this maggot, however, one observation I have is this. It seems that he is largely into the narcotics scene, not someone who I would immediately look at for a child murder and, most likely, sexual assault. Kidnapping and false imprisonment charges could have come from any number of incidents. 17 arraignments on his criminal record is not really "over the top". We routinely arrest people who have well over one hundred entries on their record, some approaching 200!!! And yeah, they're STILL ON THE STREETS committing crimes!!!

I pray that the Florida police do have the right man. But, sometimes, the national attention can, and most certainly does, bring a crush on the police to arrest someone. So, although I am sure they haven't rushed to arrest, I do hope it is on the money.

If the money wasn't as good as it is, I'd look for a new line of work because it can be very frustrating at times... but instead, I fish!!!!:D :D

As some of you know I have three sons. Two are 21 now and this is no longer a concern. The third was 13 yesterday.
With the last one, as with the others, we have always had a secret question.
Even his Mother doesn't know the answer. It is only between him and I.If ever someone approaches him and tells him I'm hurt or need him, they have to have an answer to the secret question. If they don't know the answer, then I didn't send him.
Someone (an older couple) tried taking one of the twins when we were living in Killingly. They boys asked for the answer and she didn't know it. They ran, but weren't old enough to get the license # etc. We were just happy they were safe. God knows where they went next, I pray that the next kid was as lucky.

This sickens me. I had to erase a lengthy post on this thread because I am afriad my views on this matter would offend others and it is way-off topic on why I am here...

Bottom line: Look at this guys record. Why did this happen? BECAUSE WE LET IT! Screw re-hab and political correctness, ENFORCE/FIX THE LAW to fry these guys on the FIRST offense. It is only going to get worse. There's no doubt that the perp in this case needs to be put to sleep, but perhaps the better solution in this case is to simply place him among the general prison population at the penitentiary.

When the Wife and I were raising our kids we never and I mean NEVER took our eyes off out children. Thank God they've reached adulthood. Recently my daughter moved to a house from an apartment. Her first night there she was broken into and her jewerly box was stolen inches from her head as she slept. What kind of freaks are we living with? How does one reach the point where they think that this is ok behavior? This is becoming an increasingly cruel world.

Here in NY, school districts must be notified if a registered sex offender moves into the area. The schools routinely forward these notifications to the parents.

NY also has a website. You can plug in your zip code and it spits out all registered offenders in your area.

It says that there are 6 level 3 people in our city. Our population is 30,000 that is 1out of 5000 people. Very hard to fine that person. Once again the State has screwed up. Probaly democracts.

In our city the police have them six people on the window of the police station with there names; pictures of them and where they live.

Just want to make clear what I wrote. I am painfully aware that any user logged onto the internet could be whatever, a child molester, a wife beater, drug adicts, or a brain surgeon, a fighter pilot, a politician, a home builder,...you name it....

But, I don't see that someone cruising cyberspace in search of doing evil will spend much time on this fine site!

My point was simply, "birds of a feather will flock together", that's all. I would never turn the computer over to a child and say "As long as you look at fishing, boating or sports sites you'll be fine" because that is absolutely not true.

We have a sex offender register here in CT too. But, the last time I heard, they were missing about 50% of the animals that were let out of prison. There doesn't seem to be an avenue to MAKE them register. The law as I understand it has no teeth.
