View Full Version : Herring Permit - YES!
flatts1 02-12-2004, 03:37 PM As you may or may not know, the town of Middleboro switched from a first-come/first-serve permit system to a lottery system.
I applied and I did not win the lottery - but my wife did!
YES!!
striprman 02-12-2004, 03:41 PM Your lucky. I don't live in Middleboro , but my 3 brother in laws do, They are residents, and get me herring. If I catch a bass, I bring it to my mother in laws place (sometimes) for a nice cookout.
Bob Thomas 02-12-2004, 03:49 PM Just got my "You Lose" letter. Figures :af: That's why I don't play the REAL lottery........I am and always will be a loser.....take that comment as you please ;)
Bob Thomas 02-12-2004, 04:01 PM Just heard from Maw.......Dad is a loser too......but then again, I always knew that!!

jettyjockey18 02-13-2004, 08:41 AM i got my "i'm a winner" notice yesterday but my buddy didn't get one...first time since they went to permits in '95 that he won't have a permit this year...:(
since they won't let you in the water this year, i wonder what time the line will start forming for the spot at the corner of the falls...my guess is 3am for the 5am opening bell...:smash:

I thought I was a real fisherman, are you trying to start something Flaptail? :D Fish any way you want to or care to, it is still fishing. BTW, I have been getting my permit for years and I didn't even get any herring for the past 3 seasons, I may get some this year unless it's still a zoo.
thefishingfreak 02-13-2004, 10:15 PM whats all this "permit" stuff about?
at my herring run all you need is a fishing licence and you can't net them on tues. thurs. or sun.
25 per person.
youz guys must have a very small run.
macojoe 02-14-2004, 12:04 AM My permit is always good at the secert out of the way spot after mid-night :D

you must be talking about watertown...
middleboro has the biggest run in the state because they keep a tight leash on how many permits they give out. they went to a "lottery" system for non-res permits this year because they sold out all 300 in 5 hours on jan 2 last year...
thefishingfreak 02-14-2004, 02:01 PM no, my run is on lower mystic lake.
does anyone know if its legal to cast net them in the harbor?
i belive that once there past the route 99{summer st.} bridge you can't {dip net only}?.
i mean, say you're off the airport and you see a massive school can you cast net them there?.
i'm not really sure of the laws regarding herring at sea.??
mrmacey 02-16-2004, 08:00 AM do herring make it up here to raynham out back of my office is the taunton river:confused:
Slipknot 02-16-2004, 09:14 AM yes, they go right by you. But you won't see them, river is too wide and deep there.

yup, like slip said...all of the middleboro, birdgewater and west bridgewater herring swim right past your office...
macojoe 02-16-2004, 10:52 AM Years ago we use to be able to get all we wanted behind thw VFW in Taunton. The other side a a huge pipe that went in to what was then none as the Brick Yard.
But I have heard that it is not that way anymore?? Its been a long long time since I have been down there!
