Listened to something on the ride down to fish today, where some 4000, Priests were admitted child molestors. If true that's just sick and a number that is too large by any stretch of the imagination. No doubt every one of the sick bastards had some sort of immunity, I'd like to take every one for a long boat ride.

I've sat through one to many sermons when I was young to realize that the person who was challenging my integritey was farther from rightousness then we are all from Spring right now. Yet, the more I find myself rationalizing atheism, the more I realize I am just making excuses. Ben Franklin once said "He who is good at making excuses is seldom good for anything else".
Through personal experience, I have found that any time I am justifying a certain action, it usually means I have done something unworthy. Bad Mikey. Through personal reflection and honesty comes bad grades.

You guys hear about Bishop Dupre of Springfield, MA? He was the guy who handed me my high school diploma and shutdown holyoke catholic highschool to help pay for all his fellow molestors. Little did we know that he probably did it for himself, and now this comes out about him. I never had any respect for the guy and this further proves it.

Question...
How many catholic priests are there in the country? I ask because I'm curious.. how many of the 4000 are still active, and what % of total priests is that?

Bob, that IS a very sick number. It really does suck that alot of it got swept under the rug and the molesters just got bounced along to a different church:smash: instead of being tried and convicted like they all should. I am pretty sure those sick sad excuses of human beings took a job as a priest in order to be able to have access to victims :( freakin sad :(

Your right, there is NO excuse for priests and the church who have covered for them all these years, they should be ashamed of themselfs.

As a Catholic school graduate, I was very lucky to have many priests as mentors. Thank God they never crossed the line.
Luckily for me, I went to a pretty high profile school...I guess that the molestation thing wouldn't have flown there.
Any kind of child abuse is not good with me...On the other hand, I will say that Fr. Riendeau, Fr. Runte, and the rest at HCHS were great guys who never, ever layed a finger on me or any other people I went to school with.
I do, on the other hand, feel for all of the victims of sexual abuse pushed under the rug by the Catholic Church.
Just my .02.
Later,
Rick

According to CNN, in a study from 1952 to now, there were 11000 reported sex charges against priests. 6,700 were investigated and substantiated, 1,000 were unsubstantiated, and the remaining 3,300 couldn't be investigated because the priest involved passed away before they had a chance. There are more than 44,000 priests currently serving in the US. That makes about 4% who are sex offenders. Statistically, more than half of the priests commited those acts once, about 25% (approximately 1,112 priests) did it two or three times, almost 13% (approximately 578 priests) had 4-9 allegations, and the remaining 3% (approximately 133 priests) had ten or more allegations.

Hope this answers your questions.

Although this is a tragic and unfortunate problem for the Catholic church, we need to be careful in the sense that we do not put our faith in people as opposed to putting our faith in God.

As people will let you down every time.

The Bible says that there are none who are good... no, not one...

It also says...

for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.

To blame God for the actions of the sinful nature of a fallen mankind would be a "cop-out" of the highest magnitude...

God did not molest those children...
