Catch That Monster Striped Bass Come check out our new web site, if your new to striped bass fishing visit the beginners clinic. Lots of fun

Hey Striper247 - You being a wbesite owner obviously can't read a membership agreement. If you had ASKED, you might have gotten permission but since you didn't, you can't have a link going back to your site to the message board that doesn't work. Oh, get off your lazy duff and atleast install a free message board system on YOUR server instead of using one of those online SPAM message boards hosted by the SPAM companies.

So please refrain from posting here if its gonna be crap like that...

Thanks,

What sets me off is the fact you spent a total of 5 seconds to post your message. If you want people to spend there time on your site, shouldn't you at least put your time in here. Dont tell me your one of those people who has never been fishing or boating and decide to "give it a try" and goes out and buy's a brand new truck and 60000 dollar boat. You know who I'm talkinig about. No experience. They want instant gradification. You see them jacknifed sideways down the boats ramp or worse trying to flag you down on the water because there out of gas or stuck on a sandbar. I never met you but you sound like a wanker. Why dont you go bother someone else. The fact you are form New York or New Jersey expalins a lot as well. YANKEES SUCK! :smash: :af:

Good point. I edited my post appropriately and to avoid additional suspicion on my whereabouts, let me just say I am going to go get myself a grindah, jam a cold tonic in my couzie, sit back and read my Yaaaaamouth Registah as I watch the dinks from New Yawk and Joisey respond.

Where to start?

Sensitive New Englanders. Must be sox fans.

I guess Ill start with Mr quick decision. Your profile. "grew up in the Berkshires, fished freshwater for 25 years, just started salt water fishing. 100 percent hooked".
Have you ever even caught a striped bass?
I can see why you guys got upset, but arent you over reacting just a tad. One post letting you guys know about a new web site. If you dont want to visit my site thats OK.
No harm no foul.

And no.. I hate the yankees. Im a die hard met fan.. I have been fishing the Raritan Bay and Sandy Hook since I was 10 years old which is now 35 years. Im primarily a surf guy, but everyone in my family owns a boat docked in Statten Island. I just happen to be passionate about striped bass fishing and because I got injured on my job I decided to build a web site is all.

John
I checked the links and my message board is now fine. Thanks for tipping me to the dead link. I plan to add a decent board but there is so much work involved with the site that bravenets board was the quickest and simplest. When I understand more about PHP and MYSQL I will add a better one. If you like you can spam my board.

Sorry if I pissed some of you off.

Im just an ordinary surf guy who loves the coast and of course, striped bass.

Actually 247, you still don't have permission to promote your board and you have not asked me if you can. What you did is do what happens once a month around here and that is disregard the membership agreement or ignore it and try to use your site to launch this one. So it's still not cool as you still haven't asked.

We see too much of this crap and people are really sick of it - though the level of crap you brought forth is not even in the same league as my buddy Mike Bartlett and Mr Penetrator :laughs:

I did read the user agreement, but I had no idea my post would be misinterpreted as a major felony.
I would respectfully request permission to promote my web site on your message board. I really wasnt trying to promote my board but I did want them to take a look at the site. I want people to enjoy learning how to fish and provide info to people who like to fish for stripers. I hadnt received this much grief from some of the other moderators, I just provided reciprical links. If you dont want me around I'll take my surf pole and go home. A thousand humble apologies saheeb.:smash:

Pissa (In Western Mass we used to say "pisser," and I have recently been chided on my pronunciation of this word) Jimbo,
Only problem with the coloquialism is that we call tonic "soda."
Unfortunately for me I still pronounce "r"'s and am sort of an outsider in the Eastern Mass arena, so I must decline comment on our funny sounding accent.:D :D :D

Mr Gray Beard

My post says I wasn't trying to promote my board, (as opposed to site) in case you need some reading comprehension tutorials.

The site doesnt need promotion it is ranked decently in the search engines and it is bound to get nothing but better as I learn from making mistakes like the aformentioned "shameless" promotion.

Not for nothin, but the post was in response to a board user named Bob who asked for information on learning to fish for striped bass. As you know there are many, many methods to fish for bass. Any way Im not wasting any more time with this.

Spring time is almost here and we can get back to fishing rather than BS about some insignificant web postings.

"Board" "Site", whatever but Its not like you were replying to help "bob" out with fishing details. You posted to promote your site. As for the many many methods for catching big bass, yeh we cover more than a few of them here too. You nor we nor anyone else for that matter has a corner on that market.

Sincerly, good luck on your site, I just think that its not good to drop links all over the place. As for learning the PHP and MySql - if you can't do a board (phpBB, Invisionboard, yaBB for starters) get someone that can - many people can be found to install for relatively cheap coin, you have more control, and those spam boards don't get more people to send crap too. Just being honest. You can download php and mysql for windows too so you can test it out on your PC and get comfortable with it, learn it in an afternoon (I did and I'm no rocket scientist) or over the course of a few weeks - those other ones really suck.

Hello all,
I am new to the striper fishing world or actually I have never really fished for striper and was wondering what kind of rod and reel setups are good. Also any other information that I may need to know about striper fishing that would be useful in learning. I have recently joined and look forward to the magazine to get alot of the information that I am looking for but until I get the first issue I'm not able get started. Thanks in advance for the information.

Bobby

I replied to the guy. and Im sure He appreciated the direction.

anyway
This was the post I referred to, I wont do it again. But I thought it was an acceptable way of site promotion apparently I was wrong and I apologise if I offended anyone.

I see others post links to their sites. I guess the difference is that I didnt get permission.

Anyway John R thanks for the encouragement and advice, I will learn the Php an Mysql and put up a decent board.

Go Mets.!!!!

They'll get closer to the world series than Boston will even though they have the strongest team since Ted Williams and Bobby Doerr days.:hang: When your goin through hell, keep goin.

I spent most of my life close to the new york harbor in Staten Island, New York, more precisely. Im strictly a surf fishermen although in my favorite spot there is Not much surf. On occasion Ill go out on a charter or on one of my Brothers' boats or one of my buddies boats. Summertime is chocked full of slammer blues and fluke, blackfish, sea bass and porgy.

The Verrazanno narrows Bridge is within 5 miles of my favorite spots. Ambrose channell and the New York bight is well known by the Sandy Hook Connecticut and Long Island guys. The party boats like the Raritan Bay. That's east of the VZ bridge.

My location is on the Staten island side west of the bridge. There is an old army base nearby Fort Wadsworth.
Anyway it is about 125 yards (at low tide into the channel) a slope of about 25 feet of water then a sudden drop to 45 feet. Down there is where the big guys lurk. (An army corps diver told me they hang around the pipes at the bottom of the channell). He was diving down ther when they installed a bulkhead a few years back. He said MONSTERS... It was something I already had known for years, Other guys dont like to fish there because they get hung up on the rocks and its a treacherous walk down there if your not careful. This channel starts at the mouth of the Hudson river where there is an indigenous population of Striped Bass. They cruise in and out of the Hudson through this channel.

I usually use 20 lb ande or big game trilene, with 3 feet leader of mono (or flouro) tied to a good ball bearing barrell swivel. I use a plastic fishfinder that slides up the line much like an egg sinker would. Sometimes Ill tie on 9 feet of shock leader for distance cast. But at high tide they come close to the shore in search of bait. I use a 3 to 4 ounce bank sinker so as not to get hung up in the rocks with an 8/0 gamakatsu Hook. For bait I use a fresh piece of cut bunker. and I wear gloves when I handle the bait. I usually use bunker heads because a bass will slap a bait fish with their tail to stun it and then take them head first. Blue fish go for the tail. If I can snag bunker when they boil Ill use the whole bubker. I cant wait. The fish in this channel are usually upwards of 30 lbs. Some in the fourties and occasional 50. An old tackle shop owners wife pulled in a 64 pounder in shore about 15 years ago off their boat. Dozens and dozens in the 20's. Schoolies run in the spring. They are fun plug on top water. If i use sand worms I have to hold the pole. Eels work well but not as great as the bunker does in my spot. When the barometric pressure starts to fall I get in my car and drive the 80 miles to the same spot. ( I have since moved to the Pocono mountains.I dont go to the rockaways or the Hamptons I go right to my spot near the Hudson.)

Enjoy the stripers this year and have fun. Take pictures.

I fish from the surf as you probably already figured out. A good 85% of my fishing is done down Cape Cod on the backside from Eastham all the way down to the Race. I got a 1985 Jeep CJ-7 all rigged to get me where I want to go as fast as I can get there with the 318 Chrysler under the hood, and "BIGFSH" Mass State Plates. Not a big chunker, usually save that for slow July or early August days when I am just kicking back in the heat saving my best for after dark when me and my buddies toss eels to bag our big girls. I throw alot of plugs, mostly topwater and needlefish, just starting to throw more divers and swimmers this past year. I need alot of practice with those but I got the time and desire. The other 15% of my fishing is done local, Hull, Scituate (Humarock), Weymouth....much of this area is very rocky, makes for slightly different fishing than the sand covered bottom down the Cape and I love it as much as the cows do! But down the Cape is where I feel the most comfortable. There is another thread up here about a positive attitude when you go fishing.....well its down the backside I always feel like I am most comfortable. I got friends that own some rental property down Wellfleet and I rent a house there from them for two weeks in June and then in the fall, after Labor Day, I got the run of the place which is great.

I take many pictures, of just about everything we catch. I think having great pictures is about better than a mount....almost! I have not yet photographed myself with a fish over 40 yet and I don't have a mount yet, so hopefully I can do both at the same time this season.
