as many of you CT fishermen may know, there is currently a statewide ban on the use of live river herring and alewives without a permit. the CCA of CT Hartford chapter will be having several members of the CT-DEP speak at our next chapter meeting. here is the official information as presented to the CCA to our members regarding the meeting:

On March 9 2004, The CT DEP in conjunction with the CCACT is presenting a seminar on the State of the River Herring. This will be the only seminar of its kind this year. Steve Gephart, Supervising Fisheries Biologist for the Diadromous Fisheries Program of the DEP, and his staff will give us a better understanding of the CT River herring runs. This will include the methods for river herring data collection and analysis, differences between Alewife and Blue Back Herring, where we are right now in herring restoration and what we need to do. There will also be an overview of the perilous herring situation in our neighboring states.
for further information regarding the meeting, including directions, please check out the "Hartford Chapter" meeting schedule link on the CCA-CT website at CCA-CT (http://www.ccact.org/CCACT.htm) remember, without the river herring, the spring striper run could not exist!
