Not just any xmas bulb but a burnt out 7c7 lamp. To have the inside silvered the bulb must have burnt out. In the instant the filament goes it silvers the glass inside the bulb. Then you crush 'em and sprinkles 'em on. A bulb that ain't burned out ain't no good.

All is quiet on this plug front!:sleeps:

Flaptail
03-10-2004, 11:00 PM
Half a world away from where I sit all is quiet tonight. The stars shine down on the roof of my house as I type this and in a country half way around the world the dawn is breaking on a new day. My thoughts go back to a day 35 years ago when I saw my father crying for the first time in my life and my mother just stared blankly as tears rolled uncontrolably down her cheeks. The two representatives of the Marine notification team had left only moments before having completed thier duty of notifying my parents of the death of thier oldest son in a jungle half way around the world while in the service of his country. On the 35th anniversary of his passing I tried to think of a way to honor his memory in a manner in which he would approve.

My brother John was born for the outdoors and fishing was his passion. At 8 years old he would sneak out of the house in the dark pre-dawn hours with his rod and tackle box and pedal his old Columbia bicycle to the shores of Lake Quinsigamond to fish for trout, perch, bass and any other fish that would take his lures or bait. That passion never waned and left a great impression on me his little brother. He was my hero then and he is still my hero.

So, with your permission I am posting these two pictures as a tribute to him and by doing so I can tell him that I miss him, I love him and that he is always with me in my thoughts as I walk the beach late in the night or as I watch a trout gently break the surface of a still pond. After thirty-five years the tears stiil flow............................

Flap,
So sorry you and your family had to go through this.Somtimes the people we love are closer to us in death than in life, and it sounds like your brother is.
What a wonderful tribute you have written in his memory.
May GOD bless you and your family.

Slipknot
03-11-2004, 07:10 PM
That was a very nice tribute Flaptail, I'm sure it was a very difficult time in your family as it always is when some one loses a family member. Your brother sounded very special to you. It always seems like alot of the great ones die young :(
I like to thank Vietnam vetrans when I meet one because I don't like how they seemed to get no appreciation when they returned to the states after duty there. I would have liked to have been able to thank your brother but I can say thanks to you and your family for you brothers ultimate sacrifice for his country.:thanks: :wavey: Oh, and thanks for stopping by today, sorry I wasn't here.

And Capesams, :D   WOW, that is marble :btu:

Steve... Thanks for posting the moving tribute to your brother, and, the pictures of you and he as boys, plus your collection of his plugs. Sorry he didn't return to fish with you again. You made me think of fishing with one of my older brothers in the 60's..... I'll tell you about that face to face though.

I think at some level, we are all still small boys, seeking large fish, and trying to impress our brothers...

And CS, is that marble or bowling ball pattern.. either way, I like it

Backbeach Jake
03-11-2004, 08:40 PM
Karl, funny you described us as little boys. I was just telling my wife how we were all 12 year old 50 year olds. We are all Huck Finn or Tom Sawyer. To lose a brother is a life changeing event, i think, and blessedly I don't know. To lose my co-conspiritors and parteners in crime would be devastating. They are the extension of myself that I value most. My youngest two drive 20 hours yearly for a weekend of stripers and me. Me! I am the oldest of the litter and I consider that one hell of a tribute! I said it before ....Steve, you're a good brother.

Thank you all for your kind words. I didn't know how it would be received but I had to do it for him and this thread was the perfect opportunity. I can only hope that he is as proud of me as I am of him and as I am proud of my association with all of you on this site as well. Thanks again, Steve S.

That being said, now it's time for more plugs.........:claps: :claps: :claps: :claps: :claps: :claps: :claps:

BM and I collaberated on 2 of those swap plugs pictured there, ya see he turned the jointed needles for me for my swap plugs and I turned the small pikie bodies for the same swap, then we both painted our own - I painted and finished the jointed needles and he painted and finished the small pikies :D Simple see?:smash:

Adam, I am thinking of unloading a great deal of my collection actually, It's just morphed into a big living thing and it's money just sitting there doing nothing for the most part. I see pictures of others stuff all the time. The picture of how wastefull it is to have too any is Dave Manzi's. 90% of those plugs he has made himself and he has hundreds more in various stages of completion. He cannot and never will use a tenth of them and thas just plain crazy, If anything this plug thread has opened my eyes to this. I love to fish and you can only fish one plug at a time and only certain plugs in certain colors work reliably year after year. I will keep a hundred or so collectibles but I am definetly going to unload hundreds more in the near future, it's stupid having all this stuff:confused:

The bottom and the front bars must have gotten churned up good to stir all that up... anyway, you've never met my daughter, she's tiny, but she'd fight ya to the death for sea food, especially shellfish, and truth be known, I'm more afraid of her, than I is of you! :p

I am very sad.....seems as though you guys have run out of great plugs to post pics of....:bc:....never thought I would see the day where, out of all of you guys........we would run out of beautiful plugs to look at and admire! :( I thought to myself....."yeah, just a few more days till' spring......these guys can keep it going....at least until spring". But nope......just not enough gas in the tank I guess. Too few Cheerios in the bowl. I hoped against hope that maybe.....just maybe.....someone was holding out on me! Maybe T-Lapinski was not forthcoming with quite all of the Atoms that he had in his collection, or that maybe Mr. Flaptail had a few more Gibbs up his sleeve. I guess it just was too much to ask to have Capesams or Vineyardblues go out there and win just one more for the Gipper...........oh, the humanity!:wall: Adam R......can't ya just post a few more? Can't you go long and win just one more for the BigFish?:uhuh:

With over 15000 hits and two shy of 900 posts and considering the posting coming to a virtual crawl I think it's time to close this one. Many thanks to Capesams, AdamR, Vineyardblues, #^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&, Bassmaster, Slipknot, Newellguy, RIPoppers,Tattoo,BigFish and all the ones who posted who I haven't mentioned.

For those who enjoyed the pics especially Justplugit and Backbeach Jake I would like to say it was our pleasure sharing the collections. I hope you all got a better appreciation for our sport and it's history.

A new season is upon us now and we all have lots to do to get ready so that is where I will be occupied from now till the Bass return. If you are at the MSBA show and see a 6-6" guy on Sunday stop me and say Hi.

Thanks again for letting me share with you all, Flap.:btu:

If you must continue then by all means continue, I am not posting anymore pics for personal reasons, one being I have to much to do with my truck, building the new rod rack for the front of it, bearings etc. for the boat trailer, lower unit lube and new plugs for the old motor, convincing my wife that I do need that Minnkota Rip Tide trolling motor and mounting bracket that they have in Cabela's catalog and most of all while I did all right this past weekend casting Rooster tails to trout in Cape ponds while wading the shorelines, the two boats I saw come in at Peters Pond had a combined catch and realease score of 37 trout and one salmon. I'm sorry but it has started and it's time to get out and fish. The great snowball effect of spring fishing has started and there ain't no stoppin' this train now. On Easter Sunday evening I will be in my boat in Cotuit if the weather holds fair and there will be Bass to be had. Viya con Dios Muchachos!!!!!! Go to 1000 posts! Make me proud.
