View Full Version : some plugs
Flaptail 03-25-2004, 06:54 AM 1000 posts, I never ever imagined that it would go this far and I am truly humbled by the participation of everyone who contributed. Thank you all.
This 1000th post is a dedication and it's dedicated to all of you.
The pictures posted in this thread tell a story, our story. We must remember that our sport has a past but more importantly we must remember it has a future as well. This site and others like it, help to preserve that past and foster the care of it's future and for that I am grateful.
From the beginning of our sport, the Striped Bass has enjoyed a status far and above other lesser fishes, as the frontispiece for his work called "Fishing in American Waters" written in 1869, Genio C. Scott begs the pardon of his readers for putting an engraving of a Striped Bass lying on the rocky shore of Cuttyhunk. He explains his reason as his feeling that the Striped Bass was, and is, the finest gamefish in the world, a sentiment that I subsribe to as I am sure all of you do to.
We must continue to support the efforts to protect our sport, the fish around which it revolves and the resources it needs to survive. We must also support this site and others like it as well. We are all afflicted with a desease for which, happily, there is no cure.
And now a new season is coming upon us. As we go into the frenzied world of this upcoming season I would like to say God Bless you all and may he keep you safe as you stand at the ready in a furious surging surf or as you ride the wild edge of a heaving rip line. Soon the sight of a rod bent over in an agonal arc and the sound of a screaming drag will be yours. They are coming, let it begin.

piemma 03-25-2004, 09:03 AM Absolutely the best thread ever on this site. Kudos to all who posted:bgi:
ThrowingTimber 03-25-2004, 09:12 AM Well said:D
This was such an awesome thread, that I decided to use it for my 1000th post!!!
Great job Flaptail!... I have really enjoyed your posts as well as the posts of all who put up their Plugs!...
I hope to be one who features the work of those who are currently building their own which are going to be the future classics!
There are many great plugbuilders on this site, and I look forward to seeing what the future holds as the bar is continuously being raised!!!
NICE JOB!
Bliz #1000 :)
Flaptail 03-25-2004, 01:24 PM Congratulations Bliz and kudos for your work on the Plug Project!:btu:
Thanks. :)
I am hoping that you will be attending the MSBA Plug event Flaptail, as you posess an incredible amount of knowledge about plugs through the ages...
Have you ever considered publishing on the subject?...
If not, you should seriously consider it!
I for one, have thoroughly enjoyed hearing you speak on the subject.
I am sure that many others feel the same...
Who else here agrees?
BigFish 03-25-2004, 01:41 PM  Me, me, me!
Flaptail 03-25-2004, 01:46 PM I will be there on Saturday. No, I don't think I will ever publish on plugs alone. I am a "semi-pro" when it comes to the plug thing. Adam R. or VineyardBlues are the real pros here and there are others who, personalities aside, know much more than I. I am a Striped Bass junkie, plain and simple, that's all.
I can't wait to see your set up. Looking forward to the show although there is a part of me that wants to go trout fishing instead but that will have to wait till Sunday I guess.
Anyway, Adios Amigo!
The Plug Project collection will feature the Plugs that have been contributed up until this point as seen at the beginning of the Plug Project Update Thread.
As for display & set up of this project this weekend, keep in mind that this is at it's very inception, and will be growing as time goes on...
I will be featuring aproximately 30 creations from those who are constituting the foundation of this project in two display cases which I am trying to have finished up before Saturday morning.
As time goes on, I will be adding useful information that will accompany this growing collection which will speak about the subject of plug building.
I hope to be able to have the likes of those like yourself, Adam R, Capesams, VineyardBlues and others join the display at various events in the future in order to share their knowledge and wisdom on the subject.
That however... is going to take some time in order to set up...
I look forward to seeing you there on Saturday!
Bliz :)

Armand
piemma 03-26-2004, 04:39 AM Great paint job but you would have to be crazy to throw that in the water. Too much work into it. You could definitely sell those for the 4th of July or to Pats fans
BigFish 03-26-2004, 08:42 AM Or to Americans!:)

did you forget?
STRIPER77 07-09-2004, 07:50 PM Like Slipknot said---please--pretty please????:)
thefishingfreak 07-26-2004, 08:27 PM what happened to all the old pics???
Can you say the words Band Width?...
vitamin sea 07-30-2004, 04:26 PM It’s a shame that we can’t get access to these pictures again! The thread was an awe-inspiring collection of saltwater “pluggage” history. It was an inspiration to all of us “want-to-be Stan Gibbs” working away in the basement during the cold, cold winter evenings, dreaming of the “large” that is going to smack our latest creation as it wiggles, waggles, pops or skips over the crest of in-coming wave. We dream of making “the” new plug that is going to call the striped ones from miles down the beach. The one with the “just right” shape. The one with the special paint job topped with the ironclad top coat to protect it from those nasty bluefish.
Could the chatter be edited out and just the pictures be posted again? Would this save sufficient bandwidth to let us view those pictures one more time? This time we would know enough to print out a hard copy to review while the snow flies.
Slipknot 08-01-2004, 05:50 PM I guess I'll just have to unstick the thread :( since most of the pics are gone and it doesn't look like they will be back any time soon :(
justplugit 08-12-2004, 08:18 PM No Slip , no don't do it, that was a whole winters entertainment!
Maybe by next Janurary there will be more Band-With to keep us going again.
MikeTLive 08-16-2004, 09:33 PM I have a unix box sitting on my broadband connection.
I can host some of these more permanent like if you want.
Also, some of the pics can for sure be scaled down either in resolution or size or both without too much loss in on-screen quality.
last option (but my favorite) I know someone starting out a webhosting company. Some of the folks with a lot to post could contact him and rent some cheap space there to offload the bandwidth cost here.
PM me for info as I think the owner of this board offers commercial hosting too. PM him too :)
Slipknot 08-17-2004, 05:18 AM I don't think it is a bandwidth problem :(
just a matter of moving the pics from the old server
John is a busy guy
Tattoo 08-19-2004, 06:43 AM I miss this thread. :(
Flaptail 08-19-2004, 06:45 AM Me too. Hey John hows 'bout it. I got smore shtuff!!!!!:rtfm: :bounce:
justplugit 08-19-2004, 10:03 AM  Ya,now we're talkin!
Slipknot 08-19-2004, 04:48 PM ya know what? I'd like to take the time to remove posts in this thread that are like this conversation and leave all pertinent posts and the pictures of course. But that can't happen till the pics are put back :(:(:(
Come on John, give us a few moments of your time PLEASE!
Sure hope you've insured that collection of yours Steve...
NICE STUFF!
Sure hope you've insured that collection of yours Steve...

bassmaster 10-16-2004, 07:49 AM no pics dump this thred
MikeTLive 10-16-2004, 07:52 AM tell me about it :(
Flaptail 10-18-2004, 07:27 AM Really, this is agonizing. I have all my pluggage stored now. Nothing hanging except whats in display cases. John, any hope? If not please disconnect the life support. It's time to let this one die a peacefull death.
Slipknot 11-10-2004, 09:20 AM :( :( :( :(
Karl F 11-10-2004, 12:35 PM shoot.... got unstickied, guess that means it's in the crapper... might as well flush it, instead of lettin it linger, that way sometime when I'm doing a search, I won't see it again, and get all bummed out all over again.....
I protest this great loss of photos with a BUMP
Flaptail 11-10-2004, 01:04 PM I hear taps playing......................:crying:
MikeTLive 11-10-2004, 02:46 PM :(

John, if there is any chance to resecitate this thread, please do add the pictures back if you can find the time :(
or atleast let us all know that it is not possible or something.
thanks
STRIPER77 11-12-2004, 02:06 PM John---I think there are other people on this site who could put the pictures back if you could send them the downloads or whatever(I'm a computer idiot).
This was probably the best posting ever on this(or any other site). It would be a crying shame to let it disappear.
You probably don't have the time and we all understand that, but please dish it off to someone else rather than let it go.
Thanks for listening.:(

JohnR 11-13-2004, 10:06 PM The nickel version of what happened is this - before I moved to the new server back in April, the site kept crashing as I would run out of memory exporting the databse. Which was HUGE because of the 3 years of pictures in it. I had to kill the attachments database inorder just to export the threads and get them onto the much more powerful server we run on now. The problem has been getting those pictures back into the new DB without trashing the pictures added since. I've worked on this before and it has been the cause of some downtime - including todays...
So I'm REALLY trying guys and gals and Flaptails!
MikeTLive 11-13-2004, 10:20 PM dude. you done good.
Since you actually have the datafiles, maybe just putting the pics up in gallery or something and asking the members to re-ID them for you would work better?

I've been trying to get them back to where they are supoposed to be. The problem is that when I import them back into the MySQL Attachments table it winds up bouncing the ones that occured later. So I can somewhat easily get the pics back but then I trash the attachments that were uploaded after the fact...
How good are you with MySQL?
Now, the important part - AT LEAST FOR VIEWING ONLY, I have retrieved the Some Plugs thread. Hopefully I will be able to completely ressurect it as part of the main boards...

I got that also when the pages come up with capesams pics. His pics are gone now I believe since he linked them himself to a host.

because if you bothered to read what John said, then you would realize that the pics are not on this thread here on this forum, you have to click the link he provided:rolleyes:
I know it's easy to confuse you but try to pay attention Larry :D
BigFish 11-15-2004, 11:53 AM Confusion came from the fact that I was looking at them yesterday through this forum!
