I am heading over to BI tomorrow for a week and a half of fishing. Anyone hear any reports?

Thanks,
Steve

Take a look at the Southwest corner area. I heard there were some cliff slides over the winter that changed the shore line. Also heard talk of limiting access to the SW area.

If you can check it out and let us know it would be appreciated. :)

Have a nice trip Steve. A week and a half fishing Block Island.....some guys have all the luck! :)

As I understand it , the fish are coming through in waves this year. If you are there when a wave of them comes through , its jackpot time. Try around both sides of the channel into the saltpond. You can get on the wall or fish the beach near.

Jaiem - I will send back a report. I was near Black Rock Memorial Day weekend and a lot of the cliffs had eroded even more. I hope that parts of the SW corner are not closed.

Saltheart - I do feel lucky to go and thanks for the tip.

John R - I have never had any luck at Graces or Dories. I find other parts of the island much better.

Steve - The road to Black Rock was pretty close to the edge to start!

Then again, a new shore line can be good too.

That's why they are numbers 3 and 4 (acutally 4 & 5 ) on my list... Although I have had decent fish from both Dories and Gracies... I've found (well, #^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^& did actually) that working well to the right at Gracies was necessary as the sections near the lot are weak...

I need to work on spots 1,2,&3 a little more this summer as last year was the first time for 2 of them... and one of them may have been wiped out in the slides :'(

You mean to the North I presume.

Funny, I rarely fish that area to the right. I usually fish to the left/South and have done well. No 50's yet but I always manage to pull at least one keep size fish out of there during my trip. I prefer rocky shores instead of sandy.

But I'm not opposed to trying the other direction either. How far down to the right/North are you going?

Yes Jaiem that's the New harbor breachway. There is also good fishing along the breakwater and the beach that borders the south side of Old Harbor.

You might try here Steve. :)

I've seen guys fishing the beach to the left of the breakwater and also the "open" beach further back along the road (just as it makes the right turn and goes along the bay). Haven't tried it though. What tide is good for the beach area?

I guess I feel like a guy who has been spun around with a blindfold on. Not exactly sure if the question is about the Old Harbor breakwater or the New Harbor breakwaters.

Anyway , at Old Harbor , the big long straight breakwater to the south has a beach that runs along it. I like that on the incoming but mostly I like it in a southeast wind. Again speaking of old Harbor , the northern jetty which bends around is I guess the one you are mentioning. I don't like right near it but further north near the thin section where you can cut through a very narrow sandy area to the salt pond (New Harbor) , I like that on the outgoing but I don't really like it at all. better off fishing near the big breakwater on the south side.

At the channel at New harbor , I like to fish the southern wall and beach next to it on the outgoing.

Of course the spot in the picture from the link is better than any spot I've heard mentioned yet. Better later in the season though.

About a quarter mile north of town there's a little bridge running east/west that crosses a creek. I saw a local guy fishing there last year. It looks "fishy". Ever fish there?

BTW, what's the access to SE corner? The only way in I know of it to park in that overlook area and walk/climb down the closed stairs. It's pretty nasty hike along the beach to the point under the light house.

Is there a closer access?

Thanks.

Doesn't look like there is any closer access to the point (if that's what you're asking)... Check this: http://navigator2.maptech.com/bp/mapserver/index.cfm?lat=41%2E15263798&lon=%2D71%2E5512551751&type=3&zoom=100&scale=24000&bpid=MAP0060030900&icon=0&

John - Thanks! That's an awsome tool.

If you click to the left you see another shot of the parkign area and the path down the cliff.

So you're saying the only way to SE corner/pt is down that path then hoofing it East?

Wouldn't be so bad if the beach was like at Black Rock. But, at least when I was there last year, it was all bolders and stones from the water's edge up to the cliff. A real rock climb!

Jaiem - you're welcome. I recently stumbled across that and am going to add/incorporate what I can legally and technically.... I likes it!!!

Honestly, I haven't fished under the light there so I can't say for certain. Matter of fact, I've only fished on the island 6 or 7 times but I've had a really good guide (bro-in-law). The nice thing about Block is that that place has more points and structure per square foot than anyplace I've EVER seen. Tend to work a bit more west than there.

Nope - ain't seen that one. My biggest problem is that the last time I was there with scouting time during the day was about 4 years ago. Every time since then is from the last PM ferry until the first AM ferry. Darkness on the edge of town....

Fish from Sundown to falldown, sleep an hour, and run to the breakfast shack at the airport (opens at 6am) and get eggs & toast from the tatoo lady....
