first schoolie last year was on april 14th at 6:15 on a white rubber grub.
1st keeper was april 18th same spot same lure. 29 inches

first holdover (for me) within next week

first "fresh" fish 3/25

first keeper 4/18 :D

im guessing i'll get my first short the 1st week of april, keeper last week in april

late May/early June

Now that I've got a job, I'm guessing May 8th or so.
If I can get out to see Mikey, maybe April 26th.

If this season is like last I will get my first "fresh" shore fish, around the 25th of this month.

I assembled a nice new spinning setup for schoolies last night...

No more clutch issues... bring on the Bass!

So I'm curious why scoff at holdovers, seems to me a 5, 10 or 15 lb holdover isn't any different than a 5, 10 or 15 lb fresh fish. You put them both in the same conditions, same water temps, same weather and tidal conditions and duh, they both act like stripers.

Just because they are suddenly fresh and moving north, what that then makes them a worthy target. It's my brand of ice fishing and keeping myself fishing, I think someone has issues.

How do you know a holdover from a fresh fish?
Do they have "Best if caught by..." tags on them?
How do you know if the fish you catch in April, May or June wasn't a holdover?
Too many questions and too many stipulations.
All I know is that I already caught my first stripers of the year, and it doesn't matter which ones they are, even though at this time of year, they would likely be holdovers.
I'm just glad to be able to get out and hook up on a few.

It won't be long now before the BIG boys show up.

anyone got weird or crazy stories from those long nights roaming up and down the canal looking for that 50#er that is always caught after you leave

I'd be fishing for hold overs every day if I was close enough. I just get jealous cause I am so far away.
