Hey John and fellow rockfish followers- Just wanted to let you northern bretheren know that large schools of rockfish are again heading back north- big schools are already back into the chesapeake bay and a lot of fish were caught along my stretch of beach this past week. Heard unverified reports of a 60 lb fish caught thursday or friday but so far just a rumor. I enjoy lurking and hope it warms up for you guys soon. Peace love and seacrafts:D craig

No, I dont believe they have spawned yet, our ocean season closes 3/31- (whole coast i believe.) Alot of chesapeake bay fish spawn in May I believe way up the bay in Va and MD rivers. The fish being caught here are right now are very fat and full of large menhaden.
Interest in catching them here is also pretty much done now also as our main season usually runs from around thanxgining to first couple of weeks in february depending on the water temperature. .

slobs, cows, pigs, hogs, unicorn for the fifties. plenty of names for the big girls.

We should be running into school bass (baby rockfish) season within a month.

Yes - they are heading north - no - they haven't spawned yet. These fish - and I believe I'm correct on this - will be heading north from wintering off Virgina Beach and NC and will generall then head up into the upper reaches & backwaters of the Chesapeke to spawn, at which time the head south and out again (and some going thru the Delaware Canal) before coming up to us in May & June...

Hear tell the herring have started in a coupla places, too.

John- you drooling over the fish???Or the angler???WJM- you got that right. If you go to the vb site you can read the whole article. Ive had two over 14 lbs but nothing like that slob. I understand the fish was caught in 60 ft of water so they were probably fairly close to shore , maybe 15 miles or so. Yup, another CSC member on this site!!:D After I saw your post on CSC, I checked the 2004 IGFA record book and this is what I found for women's 'tog records:

2# - 3 lbs 14 oz
4# - 8 lbs 0 oz
6# - 9 lbs 15 oz
8# - 10 lbs 4 oz
12# - 11 lbs 6 oz
16# - 13 lbs 11 oz
20# - 12 lbs 12 oz
30# - 14 lbs 2 oz

If you know this woman, you might recommend she submit it for a record depending on the line she used. The overall world record is 24 lbs even.

Togs that size seem to have a little african cichlids Frontosa in them.
