View Full Version : Is the railroad bridge on the canal fixed yet?
striprman 03-10-2004, 01:40 PM I always enjoyed fishing the rip on a west tide, right at the parking lot. Caught alot of fish there on herring chunks.
Is all that work completed yet? I missed being able to fish there due to all the work going on there last year.
scoobe 03-10-2004, 03:22 PM I dunno if it's fixed... but is it legal to fish off the bridge?

not off the bridge but near it. It was all cordoned off the last time I was there.
pops02 03-10-2004, 03:34 PM If its not done yet, im sure it will be finished soon, i went by there at lunch time, and the bridge was down, i then just looked out the window, and it is now up, so it is in operation, but am not sure if it is completed
Vectorfisher 03-10-2004, 05:55 PM Being a former operator maintenance electrician on the bridge for a few years I made a call and the bridge is in operation! You are not allowed to fish from the bridge or any of it's structure at all, it is federal property and if the army corp wanted they could make many arrests for trespassing, I used to come back to work after most weekends and have to clean up after the fisherman/woman that visited over the weekend:mad: I swear fisherman are the biggest slobs too. On another note you guys wouldn't believe the size of some of the fish I have seen just swimming against the tide on the edges of the piers, was amazing the lures, bait, etc that people would throw out there and the fish would just hang ten watching the world go by. Many times if I had a net handy could have scooped up dinner, great place to fish as long as you dont mind the other people or the structure of the canal that consumes lures by the hundreds! By the way I am keeping all of the lures I have found stuck to the bridge and you can't have em back:p
Skitterpop 03-10-2004, 06:47 PM I fished there last season at least a few times and access was never blocked...was able to get to the end lot off Bell Rd. every time?

ChrisH 03-11-2004, 12:39 PM The B-Bay side is open, was there Sunday with the kids.
:topic: Hey BigFish, what are you the "Thread Nazi":p
Bawana 03-11-2004, 01:08 PM Stopped down there last sunday to try a rod and bridge looked done but never even noticed if the right side lot was open again or even if the Trailers were gone.I*ll ask the old lady tonight she might have noticed as she likes to walk the pooches up the Canal service road and hasnt been able to do now from there for like 2 years.I remember her babbling something about walking the road again this summer but wasnt really paying attention to her was looking at water
Bigcat 03-11-2004, 01:18 PM The bridge is been back in service since last spring.
I think there is still some painting left to be done,I see some sandblasting equipment in the compound at bell road?
BigFish 03-11-2004, 02:44 PM No, not me ChrisH....just breakin' em. I guess I will just leave it to the Thread Police.:smash:
