My friend caught a 20 pounder 9 miles north of Boston Light. 20 boats fishing in same area. Guy next to him hauled a 40+ over the side of his boat.

Hey Ron,
My friend at work took his boat out of Marshfield on Sunday. Went out to the bank. Only got one Haddock. No Cod at all. I will talk to you later......Moose

What do you guys suppose is ailing the cod?? Too early for them to come in closer, water temp's, overfished? I am glad my boat has not come back from gel coat repair just yet, or else I would have been out there burning up gas for 1 fish. Anyway I hope things turn very soon I am about to implode from hanging around the house on weekends:(

Don't expect to many fish until water temps reach 40 degrees F. I did mark fish in deep water this past Sunday east of the NW corner of Stellwagon. Also marked herring. If you are coming across gillnets their illegal right now. Some guys are fishing tub trawls - long lines. They're getting some fish but not their limit. I do hear tales of some haddock on the bank from middle up to the northeast corner.

Fireguy:)

Commercial fishing closes along the coast April 1st. through June from P-town north. It may be already closed futher south. We have what are known as rolling closers. Some places will close and other areas open up. I don't have my paper work with me about the closed areas, " I'm on vacation"
So there shouldn't be any gill netters on the bank after April 1st.
In a couple of weeks when water temps rise there should be some good recreational fishing. With out the netters the cod will have a good chance of hanging around longer.

Also starting on the 1st recreational fishing will be able to keep the ten fish per person limit instead of the winter limit of five.

Fly rod,
You're talking about federal commercial cosing April 1st ?
Not State commercial. Ron

Raider Ron:)

Yes I'm talking about federal and State
I could be wrong about the state
But I 'm almost sure that commercial cod fishing in state waters is also closed.
Now that I'm back from vacation I will check it out in the morning.
And regardless of either, recreational cod fishing is 10 fish per person starting April 1st.

Checked out the state rules with the Div. of Marine Fisheries and if you have a boat license it is a commercial permit and you are governed by the rolling closures. You can not sell your ground fish catch.
As far as recreational fishing in these closed areas with a boat license [commercial permit] in your posession you should check with the Div. of Marine Fisheries to see if it is legal.
